Exclusive: Daniel Radcliffe to guest on 'The Simpsons'

Categories: Television, TV Biz

Alert The Daily Prophet: Daniel Radcliffe is lending his voice to an episode of The Simpsons, exec producer Al Jean tells EW. In a Twilight spoof that’s part of next fall’s “Treehouse of Horror XXI,” the Harry Potter star plays Edmund, a kid vampire whom Lisa falls for. Alas, Edmund’s father, a.k.a. Dracula, and Homer try to squash the budding romance. “Daniel was very excited to do The Simpsons,” says Jean, “and we kept trying to ask him for secrets from the upcoming Harry Potter movie until we realized that they were all in the books.”

EW Exclusive: Malcolm's back on 'The Young and the Restless' ... but it's not who you think

Fans of The Young and the Restless who’ve been holding out hope that the smoldering Shemar Moore will reprise his role as the tempestuous Malcolm Winters are in for a rude awakening … the dude’s never coming back! But his character is: EW has learned exclusively that Darius McCrary – best known for playing Eddie Winslow on the long-running ABC sitcom Family Matters – has signed a multi-year deal to assume the role beginning Nov. 18.  His debut will air on Dec. 29.

“We are thrilled to have the character of Malcolm back on Y&R,” according to a statement from Maria Bell, the drama’s co-executive producer/head writer. “Malcolm, Neil Winters’ brother, has always been a catalyst to exciting stories. He’s coming back to town to see his brother and to reunite with his biological daughter, Lily Winters, as she fights for her life. Malcolm is a photographer…someone who lives on the edge and who always pushes the envelope.”

Though he left the sudser  in 2005 to co-star in CBS’ Criminal Minds, Moore once entertained the thought of briefly returning to the show that made him a star. His reps could not be reached for comment, but it seems obvious that Moore’s busy schedule (Minds is about to air its 100th episode) — combined with the fact that Bell wanted the Malcolm character back full-time – made it impossible for Moore to return (one insider even said that Moore has been approached before about coming back to the show but it was clear that it wouldn’t work out because of his commitment to Minds).

McCrary will find a familiar face on the Y&R set; the Emmy-winning Bryton James (Devon) used to co-star as Richie Crawford on Family Matters, as well.

Exclusive: 'Smallville' movie gets a title!

Categories: Smallville

It’s official: Smallville‘s upcoming two-hour Justice Society-centric “movie” is now an actual movie.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that The CW has jettisoned the separate titles that were initially assigned to each of the two episodes — “Society” and “Legends,” respectively — in favor of the singularly sensational (and far more marketable) Smallville: Absolute Justice.

This just in: Will Arnett confirmed for 'Parks and Rec'

Hey, what’s that smell? Oh, I know — it’s the ink drying on Will Arnett’s Parks and Recreation contract.

An NBC spokesperson confirms that Arnett will guest star opposite real-life wife, Amy Poehler, on her creatively-resurgent comedy in early 2010. He’ll play a possible suitor for Poehler’s character, Leslie.

Incidentally, Arnett appears in the same episode that marks the arrival of Justin Theroux, who also happens to be playing a love interest for Leslie. You know what I’m smelling now? Comedic fireworks!

'House' exclusive: Jennifer Morrison speaks out about departure

Categories: House

It’s fitting that Jennifer Morrison’s first comments concerning her departure from House would come on the same night that Cameron bid adieu to Princeton-Plainsboro.

Appearing at the Star Trek DVD launch party in Hollywood this evening, Morrison confessed to EW.com that even she was a little puzzled by her sudden exit. “I find the entire situation sort of confusing,” she said. READ FULL STORY »

'House' exclusive: Orlando Jones checks in as Foreman's brother

Categories: House

House is finally introducing us to the missing branch in Foreman’s family tree.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Orlando Jones has been cast as Foreman’s estranged (and currently incarcerated) brother, Marcus.

Although we have previously met Foreman’s father and mother (played by Charles S. Dutton and Beverly Todd, respectively), his brother has only been mentioned in passing. READ FULL STORY »

'Gilmore' creator's stunning reveal: 'I had a different path planned for Rory'

gilmore_lMy ongoing mission to get Amy Sherman-Palladino to cough up those elusive final four Gilmore Girl words is finally starting to bear some juicy fruit. Not that particular plum, no, but at least for the first time, she’s revealing details about what the series finale would’ve involved, had she stuck with the show. Hey, it’s a freaking start.

“I wanted different things for Rory,” confesses AS-P. “I wanted her to follow a different sort of path… [go] off on her own adventure, which I guess she sort of did. I haven’t [actually] seen the last season, but I heard about it from other people.” READ FULL STORY »

Sarah Palin book: Rep for Alec Baldwin and Katie Couric responds to 'Going Rogue'

Categories: Books

A rep for both Alec Baldwin and Katie Couric has responded to Sarah Palin’s comments about the actor and newswoman in her memoir, Going Rogue, which hits stands tomorrow. In her book, Palin talks about her Saturday Night Live appearance, in which she told Baldwin that “Your brother Stephen is my favorite Baldwin brother.”

According to Rogue, Palin had other ideas for the skit, but they were all turned down several times. One of her suggestions was: “Hey, Baldwin, weren’t you supposed to leave the country after the last election?” Baldwin’s rep, however, says the reason that line was turned down was because the actor never claimed he was leaving the country if George W. Bush was re-elected. (Baldwin has repeatedly insisted the quote was fabricated.) “They nixed the joke because the underlying premise just wasn’t true, because he had never said [he was leaving the country],” Baldwin’s rep, Matthew Hiltzik, tells EW on behalf of Baldwin. “It’s a complete fallacy. But then, once Palin knew that, after telling her [it wasn't true], she said, ‘Well, let’s say it anyway,’ like she needed it to be true.”

As for Couric’s response to Palin’s memoir — in which the former Alaska governor claims the newswoman was “badgering” during their infamous September interview — Hiltzik says, “The interview speaks for itself.”

Ratings: Football keeps NBC, Fox in the game

Categories: Television, TV Ratings

Sunday Night Football boosted NBC’s Sunday night ratings to winning levels as usual, with the Patriots-Colts matchup on par with last week with 19.1 million viewers, according to early Nielsen estimates. Football juiced Fox as well, with late afternoon football running over into primetime and bumping The Cleveland Show up by 11 percent, Family Guy by 8 percent, and American Dad by 33 percent (after special its early-evening scheduling last week). CBS continues to fade on Sundays with Cold Case losing more than a quarter of its audience from the same week last year; though it was up 1 million from last week, the Eye still came in a rare last place for the night.

Categories: Ausiello TV, Fringe

fringe_dlCorrect me if I’m wrong, but I’d say there’s a fair amount of anticipation surrounding this week’s Observer-centric episode of Fringe. I’m also fairly confident that, given the chance, you’d much rather watch the entire installment now instead of waiting until Thursday. But since that’s not going to happen, I present you with the next best thing: An exclusive first look at the eppy’s first three adrenaline-pumping minutes… READ FULL STORY »
