'Eastwick' boss to fans: 'I'm furious, too!'

Categories: Eastwick

eastwick_lHas news of Eastwick‘s cancellation left you wanting to saw the president of ABC in half? You’re not alone. “I’m pretty furious, too,” vents executive producer Maggie Friedman. “We have such an amazing group of writers and actors — best people I’ve ever worked with. None of us can believe this is really happening.”

Adding insult to injury, the network pulled the plug so abruptly that Friedman won’t have a chance to tweak the 13th episode to give fans any of that magical closure stuff. READ FULL STORY »

Kathy Griffin's 'Let's Dance' still in works for next year

Categories: Reality TV, Television

ABC’s planned reality competition Let’s Dance won’t make its original Nov. 23 premiere, but the Kathy Griffin-hosted show is still in the works for next year, a production source says. The series — in which celebrities reenact famous dance numbers — could air as either a midseason replacement or as summer fare, the source tells EW. The original plans were scuttled when producers found their preferred celebrities’ holiday schedules too complicated to work around.

ABC’s pulling out all the stops to promote James Franco’s upcoming appearance on General Hospital. In this 60-second spot released to EW.com, Franco’s mysterious character may (or may not have) witnessed Claudia’s murder — but he sure seems mighty suspicious! For one, he wears all black. Two, he’s the guy behind all that strange graffiti, man! What do you think, non-soap fans? Will you, like Franco, be uttering the words “I like it here in Port Charles…folks are so friendly” beginning Nov. 20?

Ratings: Sports, led by Fox's baseball World Series, top the week

It’s a sporty kinda time out there in TV land, as evidenced by the top two shows on the broadcast networks for the week ending Nov. 8. Fox scored a home run with the final game in the World Series, which saw the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies. The game drew 22.3 million viewers on Wednesday night to take the No. 1 position. NBC’s perennially high-performing Sunday Night Football franchise—serving up a showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles—followed right after that in the No. 2 spot with 21.9 million viewers. The highest-rated non-sporting event for the week—and the No. 3 spot overall—went to NCIS on CBS, which drew 20.2 million viewers in its Tuesday-evening timeslot.

Outside of those top three performers, nothing much was surprising in the rest of the week’s Top 20, except for the overall performance of ABC’s V, which premiered on Tuesday evening to 14.3 million viewers, good enough for No. 11 overall. The debut of V was the highest-rated freshman premiere of the 2009-10 season, and surprisingly, it drew the highest 18-49 viewership (6.8 million viewers, or 48 percent of its total audience) for all non-sports programming on the broadcast networks, which is quite the feat for a new program.

The week’s full Top 20—complete with viewership totals—can be found after the jump.

Marlee Matlin on 'Family Guy' gag: 'Lighten up, people'

Categories: Television

Marlee-Matlin_lLast night, Marlee Matlin appeared in a Family Guy Presents Seth & Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show sketch (see video after jump) that played her speaking voice for laughs. In an interview conducted via email with EW, the hearing-impaired actress explained why she participated in the skit — and how it ties in to a new cable series she’s developing.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How did you become involved with this special?
MARLEE MATLIN:
I had been in touch with Seth MacFarlane’s office to ask him to let me use my own voice in the segments where they had a cartoon character based on me. After all, I have an Oscar and Alex [Borstein], who voiced me, doesn’t. God knows, I would have done a far better job of playing me than her.

Were you aware of being mocked on previous Family Guy episodes?
Mocked isn’t the right word. I was just part of the joke. I learned a long time ago from when I did Seinfeld never to take anything seriously and to be part of the joke is the best way to show what a good sport I was.
