'Lie to Me' reunites the cast of 'The Shield'

OK, the laugh-a-minute Seinfeld reunion on Curb Your Enthusiasm, this probably won’t be. But The Ausiello Files has learned that The Shield executive producer Shawn Ryan has rounded up half a dozen members of his old show’s cast to guest star on his new show, Lie to Me.

Through next Tuesday, hard at work on the season’s 12th episode, “Pied Piper,” will be Shield alumni Benito Martinez, Catherine Dent, Kenny Johnson, David Marciano, Cathy Cahlin Ryan and David Rees Snell. The hour’s plot: Lie to Me‘s regular crimefighters, Lightman (Tim Roth) and Zoe (Jennifer Beals), wonder whether (oopsie!) they sent the wrong child murderer to prison nearly two decades earlier.

So who’s who?

Marciano plays the Death Row killer; Ryan, his ex; Snell, his snitch of a brother; Martinez and Dent, the uncle and aunt of the ill-fated little boy; and Johnson… let’s just say he becomes a person of interest in the case.

So what do you think? Incredibly cool stunt-casting or the kind of cheap gimmick Lie to Me honestly doesn’t need? (After all, it did just receive its back-nine pickup order.) Make your voice heard below. You’ll need to speak up, though. Internet is spotty where Mike is.

It’s awesome. Do you know why it’s awesome? Because The Shield was awesome, and I miss them.

It’s also awesome for another reason: The finale for The Shield began shooting the day the WGA strike began. Shawn Ryan couldn’t be on set at all for the final days of shooting the show he created and nurtured and ran for seven amazing seasons. If this gives him just a little bit of that experience, I’m all for it.

      Learn a new adjective, jerk.

      • kat

Jerk? He wasn’t acting like a jerk. I think someone needs to go back to bed.

  • analiesejoy

    LIE TO ME IS AMAZING.
    thats all im saying.

    • Y

Good. Your worthless opinion was concise.

      • Brian

And your equally worthless criticism was unfortunately 6 words too long.

      • analiesejoy

        Well, that was uncalled for.

Who cares if it is a cheap gimmick!!!! IT’S GOT SIX CAST MEMBERS OF THE SHIELD!!!!! You could put all these guys in an ad for dishwashing detergent and I would be in heaven because ITS THE SHIELD!!!!!

Without a doubt, (IMO) ‘The Shield’ had the BEST series finale EVER…better than ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Friends’, ‘Seinfeld’…you name it, ‘The Shield’s’ series finale was better. What an amazing show.

    • Jethro

I don’t know about “the best finale ever” but it was certainly memorable and terribly depressing.

    • RK

I completely agree…The Shield did have the best Series Finale that I have ever seen!

  • Icarus

Lie To Me + The Shield = Win. Its actually an incredibly kick-ass equation.

    • Y

      Are you 11 years old?

      • awesome

obviously you are, because you are too busy to be commenting rude to everyone else instead of being at work. Pathetic.

  • Kud

ok, never seen Lie, but will watch this upcoming episode.

I may watch it but I have grown unsatisfied with how the show and Lightman’s character is evolving and have decided to quit watching it. I liked when it was more cerebral but now that it has turned into the Cal Lightman Macho Horrorshow I usually end up wishing I had watched something else. I love watching Kelli Williams, and she’s the reason I started watching, but they just don’t give her enough to do and Tim Roth isn’t very convincing (to me, anyway) as the badass they are trying to turn him into. I thought it was great that there was a show that didn’t revolve around the romanticism of violence that so many other series pander to. But it has devolved into yet another “tell the truth or I’ll KICK YOUR A**!!” clone that passes for “edgy” these days.

Although the show has a long way to go, ratings wise, to be called a hit, it continues to slowly grow a well deserved audience.
The characters are used to enhance the quality of the episode while not impeding the bits and pieces we learn about the Ligthman Group’s
main man each week. Unlike the clones of the day, if you are watching carefully, you soon understand Dr. Cal could, indeed, KICK YOUR A** and a whole lot more, if he had a mind to do so.
Bring on the cast from the Shield: hopefully they will add more fuel to the fire that is just staring to glow for this under appreciated drama.

The show was starting to pick up great steam in character development and the edginess in the storylines. I am glad they’re bringing the Shield team for the episode, but one thing I am VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT is the soft-focus/blooming light closeup they are resorting to, to show the facial expressions of the people now. We’re not blind, you know… The only show that is allowed to have the soft-focus / blooming is Dexter.

Awesome awesome AWESOME! Lie to Me is a great show, but the SHIELD? I won’t say it was perfection, but goddamn it was and will forever be one of thee best show EVER made. Superior acting, writing made this show a MUST watch NON DVR moment. I was crushed when it ended. It could have gone on but with that final episode, it was also one of the premier finales TV has ever seen. it BLEW AWAY the finale of countless others, namely the Soprano’s. I used to argue with a few of my friends that the Shield, in many ways, WAS better then the Soprano’s. Of course I was mocked. Until I got 1 of those friends to borrow the 1st 2 seasons, and he came away hooked. After he convinced the rest of the gang, soon thereafter they were hooked once they watched it. Now since I just got off the subject, lol..having most of the cast in Lie To Me, is awesome. I just hope the potential I see in my head is reached.

  • ;-D

OMG!!! I can hardly wait. I get to see some of my favs from The Shield. Especially, KennyJ. Go bro. You deserve it. David Rees, I’m excited. Luvz. Ya-aah!!!

  • Charlie

This will definitely help take the Sons Of Anarchy withdrawal pains away. I loved The Shield and it would great to see David Snell and Kenny Johnson together again.

Also, it’s a great irony as a Shield fan to see Kenny-who played Lem, the one with the conscious-playing the heavy (bad guy) on Lie To Me. (He was also on SOA last week as well for you KJ fans who didn’t know).

  • karin

    GREAT….
    Jennifer Beals + the shield….
    So impatient

  • Sue

Don’t you mean “regular crimefighters Lightman (Tim Roth) and FOSTER (Kelli Williams)?” Zoe (Jennifer Beals) isn’t a regular, really, crimefighter or otherwise. Unless Zoe is featured in this ep??

  • Kvivik

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOT
WOuld love to see Michael Chiklis play off Tim Roth, but I am soooooooo excited to see this episode. Have loved David Marciano since his days on ‘Due South’. :-)
Also, must agree with the soft focus/blooming being a bad thing. I prefered the first seasons way of showing you the persons reaction again as or after it was explained.

    • Y

      You are beyond pathetic.

      • Alex

really.. i’d argue its vastly more pathetic to troll around on this message board and toss off meaningless insults.. I’ve seen 3 posts from you, all insipid one-liners.

I have no problem with mocking someone’s post if its shyt, but right now I’m just chuckling over how sad your life must be if thats what it takes to give you a kick.

      • Thea

Very well said Alex. Kuddos to you.
