Breaking: 'Ugly Betty' hunk joins 'True Blood'

Where True Blood is concerned, people make an awful lotta jokes about fresh meat. But this time it seems unusually apropos: The HBO hit’s just added two slabs of beefcake to its season 3 lineup.

Grant Bowler (pictured, right), fondly remembered as Wilhelmina’s lamster lover Connor Owens on Ugly Betty, has been tapped to play Coot, the leader of a pack of werewolf bikers. And Theo Alexander (left), an up-and-comer whose resume is already full of guest appearances (Chuck, Pushing Daisies… ), has been cast as Talbot, the fanged significant other of Denis O’Hare’s Mississippi vampire king, Russell Edgington.

Opinions? You’ve got ‘em. I want ‘em. And more importantly, Mike wants them, even in absentia. And if there’s one thing we all want, isn’t it seeing that he gets what he wants?

I’m really intrigued to see how this all turns out. I can see Grant Bowler created a Connor Owens werewolf character and just completely miss the mark, but I hope not.

  • HOKU

    YEAHH I’M FIRST!

    • COle9219

      Not first……..but so close! HAHAHAHAHA!

    • :P

      HAHAHAHAH LOSER!!!

    • MattyB

HA! You’re second! And we all know that “second” is French for “You suck, loser!”

  • Jackie

I want some naked Grant Bowler on True Blood. That’s what I want. Alan Ball make it happen!

  • HOKU

oh maybe not. oops. I wish Connor Owens wasn’t killed off Ugly Betty. He’s sooo cute with Willy. It would’ve been great to see more of them!

    • Ace

Apparently you missed the preview for this week’s episode. He isn’t dead :-P .

  • Natalie

Disturbed by the term “beefcake.” Just saying.

  • Jenny

Yeah that’s cool. I’m just glad True Blood production is up and running!!!

  • KR

I love Connor. He’s like an austrailian Daniel Craig. Very excited to see him on another of my favorite shows.

    • Allen

Daniel Craig is Australian so wouldn’t that just make him another Australian hottie? :-)

      • alek

        Daniel Craig is English.

    • Jennae

Grant Bowler’s a kiwi, not an Aussie.

I’m super excited to see him on TV again, on another of my favourite shows too! He was fantastic on Outrageous Fortune!

      • Erin

Actually to say he’s not Aussie is wrong. He’s kinda both Kiwi and Aussie. He was born in New Zealand but he’s lived most of his life in Australia since he was a little kid, has an Aussie wife and returns to Australia all the time. Though does it really matter?

      • Rebecca

He has a kiwi wife who was also on outrageous fortune, he counts himself as a kiwi since he was born here. and if you are from nz or oz you would know that it matters where you are from

  • A-lo

Fantastic. Mr. Bowler has already done Lost and Ugly Betty, so of course he would do the other best show on television.

  • crispy

Grant Bowler is fine. I’ve been cyber-stalking him since he played a gruff ship captain on Lost. But who the hell is Coot? I’m afraid you Alcide fans are going to be disappointed… doesn’t seem like he’s going to make it this go-round.

    • Amy Leigh

Alcide is going to be in season 3, they just haven’t cast the role yet. I think they’re taking their time with Alcide to make sure they cast the right person. I’m more of an Eric fan, but I’m glad they’re not rushing to cast Alcide with just any hot guy that fits the description.

      • sookie fan

I am totally an Eric fan…love him in the books and love him in the series. I have been waiting on the introduction of the werewolves into the mix! bout time!

      • DE

I am totally and Eric fan, can’t wait for season four! I cna’t believe that Alcide has not been cast. I’m anxious to find out who they’re going with

    • Amy

@Crispy I’ve become attached to him since Lost too! Also, there was this one scene on Ugly Betty where’s he’s “seducing” Wilhelmina, he was just smoldering, he even impressed my little sister, she was like “whoa” ^_^

  • Kaitlin

WHERE’S THE SCOOP FOR ALCIDE? I read somewhere Alan Ball said he was definitely in this season, and seeing as he’s kind of IMPORTANT in the third book, wouldn’t it make sense to hear he’s been cast?

  • Heather

Holy crap biker werewolves !!! I love this casting new awesome!!

  • Lynn

Yum and Yum! Let’s hope these two become victims of True Blood’s sexually exploited males!

  • JS

Still hoping for Fairuza Balk as Debbie…

    • Debbie

Fairuza Balk as Debbie…FANTASTIC!!! She’s perfect!!!

    • Stacy

Oh my god yes she would be perfect! She always looks like there is some crazy waiting to get out from behind those eyes!

  • Zoe

Seriously, where is Alcide? I saw this info on another website that did not list Bowler’s character name, and I thought…hmmm…well, he’s maybe a little old for Alcide but I could still see it. Why make up all these new characters when so many good ones–primarily Alcide and his crew!–are already fully fleshed out in the books?

    • Jess

Alcide is the best. I’m upset to not hear anything about him in the show.

  • Glen

Grant Bowler is amazing. He can play all sorts of characters, particularly bad guys. Anyone who has seen Outrageous Fortune knows this for a fact

    • Jennae

True, true, true! So glad I can still see him on TV even though I’m far from home :)
