Thursday ratings: 'CSI,' 'The Mentalist' dominate, NBC comedies improve

A night of repeats on ABC meant a night of upticks everywhere else: NBC’s comedies posted their best numbers of the season, as did CSI and The Mentalist. Bones held on against a big night for Survivor, but Fringe continued to struggle — it was the only first-run show whose audience shrank from last week.

I read EW’s favorable article on Fringe…it still sounded like a load of pretentious BS.

    • Jay

Fringe is a really cool show. It’s just in the wrong timeslot.

    • dr zoid

Fringe isn’t pretentious at all. I suppose you’re a fan of The Bachelor and American Idol though, right?

    • saintofE69th

yea fringe is something special…prob too smart for most dimwitted sitcom loving IQ below 100 folk…

Please be specific with your lowbrow sitcom dig – target “Two and a Half Men” or something. NBC’s comedy night is actually the smartest block of comedy on TV right now.

I am gonna back couchgrouch on this one. There seems to be a bias with EW’s TV department about certain shows. Last week, Ken Tucker gives a bogus review of the Monk finale and the show in general. Sometimes I hate reading the TV section because I cannot stand being subjected to gossip girl, The Vampire Diaries, Fringe, etc. and all the “so-called” praise they receive. When will this stop?

I’m horrified and a little insulted that you just put the wonderfully acted and written Fringe in the same category with the total, for lack of a better word, crapheaps that are GG and TwilightTV.

    • Mike

You make me laugh. You read the favorable article…. You haven’t seen the show, though.

  • lauren

    LOVE fringe!

  • Curt

    1) Bones was good; not great, but good.

    2) “Fringe” was good, too. I liked the little peek they gave us of *sane* Walter. He looks to be at least as creepy as Sylar. I’m not sure I want to see a *sane* Walter let loose on the world again. Oh, and Fox should be spanked for the episode description I saw: “William Bell resurfaces.” About as misleading as a description can get.

    3) I stopped watching “The Mentalist” about half-way through. Without a doubt it was the worst episode of the entire series – not season, SERIES.

agree about M..sometimes that show rocks other times I just scratch my head and turn the channel

  • don

fringe needs a better timeslot its getting killed on thursday nights fox need to move it to another night and the ratings will improve maybe wednesday or monday nights with stud johnathan jackson

  • Big D

I’m glad The Mentalist is doing so well. I am very worried about Fringe.
It’s only fair that Two and Half Men has twice as many viewers as 30 Rock and The Office, it’s (way more than) twice as funny.

    • dave

Two and a Half Men is twice as funny to simpletons like you who need to be told when to laugh and aren’t able to realize when a joke is told in shows like The Office and 30 Rock. Not to hate on all laugh track/live audience sitcoms; some are just fine. Too bad Two and a Half Men is so witless and predictable.

  • mario

to be honest about Fringe: its an amazing show week-in and week-out, always builds its mythology and advances the arc of the season fluidly.

those complaining about its ratings, yes its less than last season when it aired on tuesdays but fox’s thursday ratings are 20-30% up from last season and so i doubt fox is much too worried about keeping fringe alive, its doing well on its own. remember last year whent hey aired kitchen nightmares (or as i called it, Gordon Ramsey night). dont fret people, Fringe is doing fine and has contributed greatly tot he much wanted demographic of adults 18-34 and its 7 consecutive week win in ratings thanks to fringe, glee, house and i forget the other show. futon critic has a good article on this.

    • dave

The difference between Kitchen Nightmares and Fringe, though, is that an hour-long drama (with added special effects) like Fringe is much more expensive to produce than a reality show. You need better ratings for a show like that. If these lackluster ratings continue for the rest of the season, I fear that Fox, should they decide to renew it for a third season, will give it a Friday night deathslot. I really hope not.

  • cody

really really enjoyed last nights episode of bones….

  • Lucy

I’m enjoying Fringe more and more. Great characters.

  • Mike

Maybe that’s why it’s called “Fringe.”
