True Blood‘s wolf hunt has officially begun!
Although Alan Ball confirmed to me over the summer that werewolf Alcide would take a big bite out of the drama’s upcoming third season, the search for an actor to play the pivotal part formally got underway today with the release of the following casting notice:
ALCIDE: Good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, articulate, heroic, and decent, but not what he seems. He gets along well with Sookie. There’s even an attraction between the two. Very strong recurring.
True Blood is also searching for a fortysomething African-American actor to play HOLLIS, a bouncer in a bar. Despite his scary appearance — he resembles an NFL lineman — he’s a nice guy who knows Alcide well. He’s suspicious of Sookie and delivers some unexpected bad news to Alcide about his fiancée, Debbie Pelt.
Finally, Alan Ball is on the lookout for an actor in his 70s to play Arlene’s old-school (spoiler alert) obstetrician.

And the list of Sookie’s love interest’s start to pile up. I’m keeping faith that AB won’t let the number of love interests for Sookie become tiresome like it does in the books at various points.
Sorry, she goes through most of the decent guys in the Bon Temps region. She is the central character of the books you know.
I hope so too. In the book, she goes from one man to the other. I hope that in the show, her true love will always be Bill, but because of some future prob they will have, she may go (but for a SMALL period of time!) to Eric. But that’s all.

Have you guys seen the cover for book 10? **Spoiler alert** The vampire on the cover is blonde! So my hope of a Sookie / Eric ending is still alive.
I read the books and I still don’t have a clear picture in my head of who should play Alcide.
Maybe someone not famous. I think it should be like an older version of Taylor Lautner.
and btw, don’t think I said Taylor because I’m a fan of Twilight. I hate it, actually.

But Josh Holloway would be great too. But he’s shooting the last season of Lost. And if he were available now, it would mean that he dies on Lost, and I don’t want that.

oooooooh yeah! Ben McKenzie would be so great as Alcide. Maybe looking a little scruffier than usual, though. Except it looks like he’s about to shoot a movie, so no time I guess. Bummer. I would have LOVED to see him in TB.
I haven’t read the books, so I don’t know any specific age group Alcide should represent, but my suggestion would be Ben Browder (Farscape, Stargate). He’s sexy, funny and can pull off physical & verbal jousting.
If the producers are looking for someone younger, then I’d like to see Enver Gjo**** (Dollhouse – can’t remember how to spell last name). He may not actually look rough around the edges, but if you’ve seen him play a dippy college girl and Topher, then you know he can do ANYTHING. He is quite possibly the best actor I’ve ever seen – and he’ll soon be available due to Dollhouse’s cancellation.

I’d suggest Charlie Hunnam, but he’s already on Sons of Anarchy, so I think Johnny Lewis or Dylan Bruno might work.
I’ve only read the first two books, so I don’t really know a lot about this alcide character, but I am quite smitten with Gael Garica Bernal. Although I think the chances of him showing up on the show are quite slim. I can’t wait for Season 3!!!
Alcide is introduced in book 3, and there’s lots about him. I doubt season 3 will be that similar to the book, but I loved that character in the novel! He is just gorgeous in the book…

I second that….JDM would be perfect in my opinion. Hes rough around the edges, but still endearing and very sexy. Perfect Match!!!

Well then you’re clearly not reading the books properly as JDMs age would be closer to that of Alcide’s father.

You must not being reading the books correctly yourself, ash. Alcide seems in the book to me was between 25-30. I am a year younger then this Jeffrey Dean Morgan and I know I am too young to have a 30 year old child.
@JMOthanks – which means JDM is 15-20+ years too old for Alcide. Don’t get me wrong – I’m a big JDM fan – but he’s way too old. A bigger, dark-haired under-30 would be far moe appropriate.

JDM would be great if they could age him backwards about 10 years. Hell, if he would just lose 15 pounds, grow out and color his hair, and maybe get a skin peel, he could totally rock Alcide! Speaking of “too old”, I always pictured a rugged Grant Goodeve as Alcide when I was reading the books. Yes, clearly I’m dating myself.
I LOVE Jamie Dornan for the role of Alcide. He’s GORG and could totally kill that role.
