Sam’s mom is MIA no more.
True Blood has tapped Tony-nominated actress J. Smith-Cameron to play the recurring role of Sam’s estranged mother, Melinda.
In addition to her many Broadway roles, Cameron has appeared on Law & Order, Six Degrees, and K Street.
As previously described in this very column, Melinda is dirt-poor, hungover, and trashy-looking. Prison Break‘s Marshall Allman is on board to play her son (and Sam’s younger sib.) Still-to-be-cast is Melinda’s equally filthy hubby, Joe Lee.

Nice bit of casting. Poor Sam though…those character descriptions do not seem like he will have a lovely reunion with his bio family.
Wonderful stage actress, but I don’t remember her winning a Tony.

They changed it – it originally said “winning”. Again EW fact-checkers fail.
Oh well, if they wouldn’t call me in for it, it might as well be her! LOL!
I hope this means a lot more screen time for Sam!
I’d hate to get the casting call for that type of role. Imagine your agent calling you up saying ” I have a role that would be perfect for you!”

But wouldn’t you, at the same time, be thrilled to be getting cast on a Golden Globe/Emmy winning/nominated show? I think I would take any role on a show as popular and well received as True Blood is.

I love Sam! He’s one of my favorite characters on True Blood. I can’t wait for the next season to start!

You don’t do your homework – she was in TV when (well 4 years after) Sam Trammel was born. Plus she is a shifter and I wonder whether they “age” like normals.
JSC is a magnificent stage actress with undeniable presence. It will be a stretch to make her look ‘dirty-poor and trashy looking’. I can’t wait for June

Is his mother in the books?? I think not. The show is clearly doing it’s own thing now. I just want them to cast ALCIDE!
Looks like another character for AB to pull out of thin air, but at least it will give some character development for Sam.
