Ratings: 'The Good Wife' hits viewership high

CBS’ The Good Wife hit a series high in average viewership to cap off a Tuesday night win for the network. Meanwhile, NBC’s The Sing-Off maintained its average viewership and even improved upon its Adults 18-49 rating from Monday night’s two-hour premiere. Still no love for ABC comedies Better Off Ted (down 16 percent in average viewership from last week) and Scrubs (down 20 percent).

Come on people! Watch Better Off Ted!

    • steve

Yeah, it doesn’t look like its going to survive past this season unfortunately. I wonder if ABC will let it even last that long.

  • Josh

20 million(including myself) tuned in for NCIS last night and yet no Golden Globe love!!!

    • Joe

20 million people watching does not a good show make.

      • Garrett

Thank you Joe! NCIS is in my opinion average at best. I don’t get the draw, but respect the fans opinion. Nothing caught my eye last night; I had to vacate the room as my wife tried to torture me with the Sing-Off. I retreated to my sanctuary and found my guitar waiting for me (as always). I did return halfway through the Good Wife (I have never seen it before) and I will say it wasn’t terrible; much to my dismay.

Golden Globes awards arent based off popularity. I like NCIS but I wouldnt say anybody in their cast is so good they should get nominated. Or that the show is any different than any other police procedural show.

      • ok

The only reason so people watch NCIS is because nothing else is on that time slot. NCIS is lucky. Sorry.

  • psc

20 million people (18 million 65 and over)

    • Alinda

      HAHAHAHAH

So true!!! That’s why CBS shows are rarely talked about…

I’m 22 years old and the only show I watch is CBS is the Good Wife (which is AWESOME btw because it has CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!)

      • Alinda

Actually wait I also started watching HIMYM and Big Bang recently…but then again, those are one of the FEW cbs shows that have good 18-49 numbers

  • DW

I’m sure EW knows that the 18-49 demo ratings for these shows are much more important than the meaningless total viewer numbers, so why don’t they get mentioned? The Good Wife had the same demo ratings as the second hour of The Sing-Off, which isn’t much to write home about.

I love “The Good Wife,” although last night’s episode was ripped straight out of the news without any of the interesting twists “Law & Order” takes with its stories. Still, any episode with Kinsey from “Mad Men” in it is a winner in my book!

    • Sienna

Yeah, I thought it was a really good episode despite the fact that Cold Case did a very similar story earlier this year.

      • Donna

I couldn’t remember what show I had seen the storyline on, but it was almost identical to the Cold Case episode you mentioned. I was pleased to see, however, that there wasn’t a lot of attention on the husband’s plight. I think that will get old quickly and they do need to focus more on cases.

  • shipper

Wow. A lot of people like formulaic procedurals.

    • Alan

      They’re idiots. I HATE PROCEDURALS!

      • Jackie

Because you hate prodcedurals and other people like them, they’re idiots?

  • Sparky

Love the Good Wife. Loved Will and Baxters conversation about Alicia – can’t wait to see what happens with the two of them…

    • Alinda

      I agree!!

I actually LOVE the idea of Will and Alicia together! Definitely add some drama!

  • psyche

Poor Better Off Ted. I still love you show :(

Also, I hope your happy with your 4.0 on the Gordon Ramsey cooking show that forced SYTYCD to have such a cramped, lackluster finale.

    • psyche

and by your, I mean Fox. because even forgetting i didnt use “you’re”, I also need to identify the subject.

    • Sienna

Seriously! They really could’ve used two hours last night. There were no solos! Plus, I always enjoy the boy/boy and girl/girl dances, and there weren’t any.

      • davey

Agree completely with you both. It looked like the whole show was pre-taped and edited to the hills! I usually enjoy watching the boys vs. girls dance-off – and NOTHING!!!

  • melissa

i love this show. but i always forget its on. only because i’m not tuned to cbs to watch both ncis. that show sucks. but love the good wife.

  • Erika

Actually, 20 millions viewers DOES a good show prove. You don’t add viewership to a show that’s seven seasons old because it has sucky writing. NCIS is a television novelty, not your average procedural and well worth the time if you enjoy good programming. As for the awards–they generally recognize ‘buzz’ shows and not the shows that deserve the buzz. If a fan is lucky sometimes those categories overlap, but more often than not I’ve seen terrible performances lauded as great and intelligent writing/acting/directing completely overlooked. At this point I don’t care much about awards. I’ll keep watching what is intelligent, entertaining, clever television: and NCIS is one of the shows that makes the list.

    • Josh

Thank you for recognizing what has been unique about the television season: that the seven-year old NCIS is the number one show on network television. It is a novelty that is intelligent, clever and entertaining. The problem is a lot of these “buzz” shows are not worth a damn (i.e Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries). I am tired of hearing about quantity and not quality, and the issue that bothers me is when I have magazines telling me that a show like that is worth more than a Monk, or Psych or Burn Notice. No knock towards Glee, as I am sure it’s a good show, but I have no interest (love Jane Lynch though) but shows like that in the long run lose their luster. Sorry if this sounds like sour grapes, but I am tired of quality shows not getting any love and the bias generated towards them.

  • Joseph T

ugh, better off ted is great but not looking like it is getting the viewers

  • Darrin

Not that I’m bashing NCIS because I have never seen it, but in no way does popularity/ratings=awards-meriting quality. If so, Transformers 2 and Twilight would win all the Oscars and Golden Globes – anyone want to see that?

    • Erika

Comparing them is kinda like comparing apples to oranges, though. Different demographics, different type of hype. NCIS isn’t aiming for tweens/teens/CGI or Megan Fox fans; there hasn’t been a crazy PR marketing machine slamming NCIS down the throats of TV viewers. Heck if it gets a mention here other than IN these ratings reports. NCIS’s quality is the only thing that’s drawn people to it because CBS hasn’t done much to promote it in general.

  • Danny

The best procedural on TV is Castle.

  • rachel

    NCIS: Los Angeles

    The best show!

    I Love NCIS: LA

  • Lucy

NCIS can be entertaining, but I still don’t think the quality is very impressive.
