'As the World Turns' exec: 'We are committed to finding a new home'

As the World Turns may be ending its 54-year run on CBS next September, but the sudser’s home studio hopes to continue delivering fresh episodes to its devoted fans…someday. ”We are completely committed to finding a new home for As The World Turns after the show ends its extraordinary run on CBS in September 2010,” says Brian T. Cahill, senior VP and managing director of TeleNext Media. “However, in order to keep productive conversations moving forward, we will not disclose details of our discussions. We know our loyal fans are eager for information, and we will make an announcement as soon as we have something to share.”

A rumor surfaced online last week that Lifetime may be interested in picking up the daytime drama, but a spokesman for the cabler denied the claims. TeleNext may have a tough row to hoe in its quest to find a new buyer; at an average 2.53 million, ATWS is the least-watched soap among the seven daytime dramas still airing today. CBS will likely replace the sudser with a new game show.

Saw the latest ratings figures, ATWT’s share of the pie got a boost, tying up with General Hospital and One Life to Live (which I also happen to watch) got booted off to last place.

Hoping all is going to be well for all the remaining soaps

As the World Turns needs to stay on the air. If any show that needs to be off the air is The Bold and the Beautiful! As the world turns actually bring real life events and delivers it to the rest.

I would be beyond psyched to see ATWT picked up by another network! Losing GL was hard enough…and then ATWT snagged not one but BOTH of my fave male actors from the show (Tom Pelphrey and Daniel Cosgrove) only to get canceled? Television is a cyclic thing and soaps may be less popular now while game shows are big but whose to say things will stay that way? Soaps are great campy fun!

U TAKE GL OFF THE AIR NOW ATWT. I THINK WE SHOULD ALL STOP BUYING ANYTHING THAT P&G MAKES I KNOWN THAT I AM AND IT IS GOING TO BE HARD FOR ME BECAUSE I USE IVORY SOAP AND TIDE. IF ENOUGH OF US STOP BUYING THEN MAYBE NONE OF THOSE BIG PAID TOP PEOPLE LIKE VPS. CAN ALL START LOOKING FOR NEW JOBS. I NOW HAVE NOTHING TO WATCH IN THE AFTERNOONS. BECAUSE TBAB SUCKS. ALL IT IS RIG JUMPING FROM BROOK TO ANOTHER WOMEN AND BACK AGAIN THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. SO I WOULD DO DISHES OR LAUNDRY SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO WATCH IT. THAT SOAP IS FOR THE RABBITS. JUMPING FROM BED TO BED. AT LEAST WITH THE GL. AND ATWT. YOU FELT LIKE YOU WAS PART OF THE FAMILYS. 54YRS.FOR ATWT AND 78YRS. I THINK FOR GL IT IS LIKE I OR WE ALL HAVE LAST FAMILY. SO I HOPE P&G GOES BELLY UP. I WILL KEEP MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT ANOTHER NETWORK PICKS ATWT.I LOVE YOU ALL NANCY,BOB,KIM LISA AND SO MANY OTHERS.

I agree whole hardly with you!! I have watched ATWT for years. I was in Elementary School w hen I started to watch ATWT. In college which was 61-65 I would not take a subject if it was during the time ATWT was on. Iwas in my dorm watching the show!!! I arranged my whole 4 years of subjects around that show so I would be in my dorm watching that show. We couldn’t have a TV in our room. There was one TV at the end of the hall in a little lounge. The room was always full of girls watching the show. When I got married and had my two girls, we used to tape the shows and watch them all on Friday evenings. (All 5 shows) I still watch the show an I’m 67. SO I’m very upset that the show is being taken off. What happened to Lisa? I never see her on the show any more. I am now a retired teacher who still substitutes and does interims. I have to miss the show at times because of that. When I’m home I sit and watch it. Please, Please do not take it off. It is the only one that I have ever watched for all these years.

I hope that ATWT does indeed find another home. Having watched this show all my life I have lots of time and devotion invested in this show. Where else can you watch the unfolding of charcters that are of all ages and watch them grow older and have families of their own? I love the older characters of Nancy, Bob, Lisa and Kim. They are a joy to watch after all these years. I would love to see their grandchildren as they adapt to the turning world of Oakdale. Alas I don’t think they will get picked up. Too bad…..if they did I would follow. I don’t watch lifetime but you can bet that if it were picked up I would.

I pray for As The World Turns to find a new home. I started watching CBS soaps with my grandmother at four, I am forty-five now. I lost interest in Guiding Light after some of the older actors left. The soap continued to steer away from some of its fundamental core, resulting in the show losing a lot of its character. However, I have continued to watch and love As The World Turns. It will be heartbreaking to lose something that brings back wonderful memories of my beloved Mammaw McClure. I can still here her gasp and exclaim “I just hate that John Dixon.” The only thing we can do now is to watch(record)the show daily to support it and hope that it will be picked up by another network.

I would hate to lose ATWT. I have watch and taped it since 1958. If it is removed it will be heartbreaking to a lot of Seniors. Soaps are watched faithfully by Seniors everday. They are a part of their lives. I watch B&B but ATWT is my favorite. Please find a channel that will carry it on. I remember way back when Judge Stewart and Grandpaw Hughes were young. Bob, Lisa, Penny & Ellen were teens.
So I plea with you not to completely remove it. Please find a channel to keep it going on.Thank you.

I would not mind if ABC axed One Life to Live and the Alphabet Network picked up AS THE WORLD TURNS.

It would be a shame to cancel As The World Turns. I love the show because I got know the charaters of Oakdale. I have been watching the show for two weeks now. The soap opera is part of the television landscape and should not be canceled Let’s hope that atwt finds a new home by September. I really love the Snider family and I really want to see the Snider children have of their own

I am so disgusted with cbs for ditching all of its faithful viewers. I love. As the world turns and tivo it everyday. When it goes I do to I can guarantee u I will not enjoy yet another stupid gameshow. No much rather watch my show. I have stopped buying p&g products if u can’t be loyal don’t expect us to. How dumb to drop guaranteed viewers. Cbs sux! Can’t be trusted! !

I am a 3rd generation follower of atwt my grandma listen to it on the radio and then watched it on tv she losed interest in it because she got macular degeneration and could not see it. My mom picked up from there and watched it till she got Supra Nuclear palsy back in 94 thats the desease that Dudley Moore died from and so took my mom. I have been watching atwt since I was five and alot of good memories from seing it with mom and grandma and we would talk about what happened and would speculate on the next episode (this was before they gave previews)goods times then. I wanted to pass the show down to a 4th generation but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen but if life time would pick it up it would be appreciated

I have watched this show since I was a little girl peeping in to see see what my mom was watching. My grandmother and grandfather also watched. My brother would go by year to year and ask if John Dixon was still on. This show is all about family. We could use change but not in our family. We just lost our Guiding light family and this show is the only show left that we have all watched from generation to generation. The show has picked up rating now. Please fiind a home for this show. We need it . It is bad mentally to lose as many family members as we did when we lost the whole town of Springfield. Please don’t destroy let another American city that we love Oakdale die. Please find a home for us all. Thank you.

Not As The World Turns? What are they thinking? Oh wait, I know what they’re thinking: cheap. It’s much less expensive to put on a completely forgettable game show, than it is to maintain quality and excellence from a stable of amazing actors and writers and crew. I’m so disappointed with CBS for turning its back on a show that’s been one of the brightest diamonds in its crown. Like millions of others, I am a fourth-generation viewer. As The World Turns is woven into the tapestry of my family, memory and life. So many days home sick from school watching… summers when I’d come in for lunch and watch with Mom or my grandparents… college classes scheduled around the daily episode… and then taping/dvr’ing it every single day since. Spending time with ATWT is like being with family and friends. It’s a love letter from my past.. grandparents and a great-grandmother who would know Nancy, Bob, Kim, Lisa, Susan and Barbara. I hope P&G can find ATWT a new home. Just because women aren’t home in the afternoon watching network television, doesn’t mean millions aren’t watching ATWT. Perhaps the fault lies with the ratings measurements. Until researchers can find out what people dvr/tape, can there really be an accurate rating?
In the meantime, thank you ATWT… for endless hours of enjoyment… and I pray you will find a new home.

ATWT must be picked up by another network!! It is just as good if not better than Young and the Restless. I watched both programs as a child over 25 years ago with my Grandma and when I watch them today I still feel like I’m sitting there watching them with her. I’d pay extra to continue to watch the show.
