American Idol is a singing competition, and judging by the “key art” for the show’s ninth season (debuting January 12), Fox hasn’t lost sight of that.
“The fact that Fox is going with a contestant-focused theme for the show’s season 9 campaign is good news for all us Idoloonies who know that at its heart, the show is about finding the next Kris-Adam-Allison, not a coherent pinch-hitter for Paula Abdul,” raves EW’s great American cheerio, Michael Slezak. “Oh, and those had better be models and not actual contestants they’re showing, or else we’re about to encounter early contestant pimping at new and unprecedented levels.”

I think it’s unfair to judge how the show will be with Ellen, given that we have yet to see it. I think she, as a music lover not involved in the business, will represent a very important demographic: those of us that they rely upon to buy the cds after the show is done. I had no problem with Paula at all, but it’s not like she was an expert on anything to do with music. Loved her music, but not because she is very technically capable.
Truth is Idol could lose 20% of it’s audience this season (disgruntled Paula fans or whatever) and they would still be one of the highest rated shows on TV outside of sporting events.

Adam Lambert’s album has sold 296,000 copies since its release, as of Dec. 16. And that’s not including how much he sold this past week, which will put him well over 300,000 (and this is also not including his international sales, which have done well without any promotion).

After Adam sold 198,466 in his first week (#3), 50,999 in his second week (#22), and about 46,000 in his third week (#30).. he closes off his first month with an amazing 37% increase compared to last week and leaps up three places in the sales ranking, to #27!
Total sales for this week got a boost because of the holiday season, and probably his appearances on So You Think You Can Dance and Chelsea Lately paid off.. and this reflects in a total sales of 62,623 albums, breaking the 350,000 barrier in his cumulative total while reaching a total sales number of 358,088 for his first month!!!

Amuses me when people talk about how pimped Adam was during the show. I felt he deserved the praise he received because he was just THAT GOOD. If you want to discuss over-pimped, what about Danny Gokey? And where is he now? Nowhere. Every season there is at least one person who gets more accolades than they deserve. In season 8, that was NOT Adam.
