Exclusive: 'Nurse Jackie' drops Mo-Mo!

I hate to be the bearer of rotten news just three days before Christmas, but I just learned that one of my (and no doubt Read the full post.

Great actor, but I will not miss the character in the least. He was not bad at all, but he did not entertain me nearly as much when compared to the other characters in this show.

I hope this move is an attempt to make the show grow. Not that he was exactly holding the show back, but this show really has to take it to the next level next season to continue to be worth while.

With House back on track, my need for NJ to be worth watching goes down a bit.

I hope they can make the show worth keeping up with.

  • graeme

That sucks. I have such a crush on him ever since “The Visitor”.

  • Marissa

Mo Mo was my favorite character on Nurse Jackie. I think Showtime really screwed the pooch on this one. I was on the fence about watching the new season, but now I definitely will not be watching.

  • izikavazo

That’s really odd. I can’t imagine why they’d get rid of him. Possibly they had to cut the budget.

  • abstractstereo

As a new fan of this show (just finished watching the first season) this news is very upsetting. Any chance you can get an explanation as to why this happened?

  • Joseph T

NO! He is such a great actor ;( And they dont even address this in season 2?! What is going on?!?!

  • anonymous

Waaaa. I like the show, really I do, but nothing really happens on it. Its sort of like groundshog day. But this sucks. He was one of the more interesting characters.

  • Anitamargarita

Thanks EW! Making me feel better about having to make the tough decision to cut off my cable. All that money is much better spent on internet service. Digital cable plus premium channels are a complete and total RIP OFF!

  • Carly

    This is horrible!

  • jason

    that totally sucks!

  • Sarah

Wow. Him leaving the show definitely sucks but what REALLY sucks about it is how it is out-of-the-blue with no explanation…how can they have no one even acknowledge it? All it takes is a one line comment from one of the main characters explaining his absence. WTF, writers? It’s truly bizarre and definitely makes me lose some respect for the show.

  • David4

Showtime during Dead Like Me run wouldn’t let George’s dad have a gay affair. I wonder if something like that has anything to do with it.

The show isn’t very good, and he was the best part of it. Really big mistake.

    • Spork-sama

I agree that Showtime is pretty homophobic. When I learned that they were doing a semi-lesbian stoeryline on US of Tara I was shocked. I damn this channel for having Dexter because it is the only reason I purchase this channel monthly. If they keep this up though I will just download Dexter and ditch this homophobic channel.

      • J.G.

I wouldn’t call Showtime homophobic by any stance. Remember, Showtime was the network of ‘Queer as Folk’ and that was about as not homophobic as it gets.

      • ecjb

        and The L Word.

      • David4

As others said they had a gay show and a lesbian show last 5-6 years each. However I wouldn’t put it past someone on the network just to nudge (or throw) out the gay character. I understand if the character didn’t work (Mandy on West Wing), but he was REALLY good for Jackie.

The biggest homophobic channel is easily ABC, just look at the BS they have pulled throughout the recent years.

      • DW

Yes, look at ABC and their loving gay couple on Brothers & Sisters, numerous gay characters on Ugly Betty, etc. Totally homophobic.

      • ME

I’m a upset by this news as anyone, but I’m not so sure about the homophobic thing.

You were shocked by a gay storyline on United States of Tara? Really?
We are talking about the same show right? Her son is gay and entire family knows about it!

      • Diogo

I don’t know if Showtime is homophobic, but someone in it definantly is. Bryan Fuller left Dead Like Me because they didn’t let he run the show the way he wanted (one thing was Geroge’s dad being gay), altough I read it was MGM’s fault… is Showtime owned by MGM? I don’t know how these things work.

      • Brooke

While I am rather upset the show letting such a great character/actor go, no one could EVER call Showtime “homophobic.” I am a hard-core fan of both “The L Word” and “Queer as Folk.” Showtime took on two ground-breaking shows that had all gay/lesbian characters. Not to mention, “U.S of Tara” won a GLAAD award last year. On that show, Tara’s son is possibly gay or bi and one of Tara’s “alters” is a man named “Buck.” Plus, Nurse Jackie kept the other gay nurse, (Mo Mo’s “stalker”) on the show. I cannot comprehend why they would keep that dude and let Mo Mo go. It makes no sense. They should have let him and “Zoey” go. I don’t care for either of them.

  • Tarc

No! Mo-mo was my favorite character on the show (including Jackie). I’m very, very disappointed – perhaps enough not to watch.

  • phil

Whaddya mean “his storyline had run its course?” They barely GAVE him a storyline. There is no doubt that the lead is the star, and Falco is unendingly talented, but if it’s always about her, it is going to get boring really quickly. Although I have to say that it was an incredibly brilliant first season. Bad move, producers, bad move. When you get solidly good actors like the momo character, you EXPAND their role, not dump em.

  • Buddy

That’s just terrible. He was such a great character and Sleiman was doing excellent work in a wonderful, stereotype breaking role.

    • David4

He was a flamboyant gay nurse, what stereotype was he breaking?

      • amj

I agree..I liked the character but I thought he was fairly stereotype to be honest.
