'Biggest Loser' contestant Tracey on being portrayed as the villain: 'It's okay'

She was portrayed as the villainous gal who was only in it for the money but Tracey, a 37-year-old homemaker from Allen, Tex., got the last laugh. While giving hugs to anyone who called her “unrecognizable” at the Dec. 9 finale of The Biggest Loser, Tracey talked to EW about her 87-lbs weight loss (from 250 to 132!), that fateful race at the start of the season, and her enviable dress size today. (Plus, a full list of everyone’s weight loss, after the Q &A.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You’ve been watching the show.  How do you feel about how you were portrayed?
Everybody asks me that question…and it’s okay. The person I saw [portrayed on the show], I was like, “Are you kidding me?” I was being portrayed like a villain who’s mean and nasty, and I’m not really a mean and nasty person! I really had to get myself composed. It took me a couple of days. Once I did, I realized what I had to do to stay there. I was doing what I had to do to take care of me. No one saw me staying in the hospital for 10 days from heat stroke and wanting my chance. No one ever saw that. When I finally got myself up out of that bed and went to that ranch, I thought, “I am not going to stop.” I want to be where I want to be. I’m finally going to live the life that I love. That’s what I had to tell myself every day. I put myself in a cocoon.

When you go back and watch that moment you dropped to the ground, do you second-guess the show’s decision to make you run a mile? Did they put you in harm’s way?
You know, there were a bunch of fat people who needed to change their lives. I think it takes something drastic to start with to make us all wake up and say, “I need help!” I needed help. Did you see me when I ran out the gate? I was like, “I’m gonna kick your ass!”  That’s what I said running after Daniel, and I got in my mind that I could do it! But my body was not going to allow me to do it. So it was something drastic that happened that day. It was a freak accident, but when I go back and look at it, it made me stronger.

Was it a safe weight loss program?
It is a safe program. Your body will not quit on you. And if it does, you have to keep going. I was the perfect example of that. My body quit on me because I couldn’t do that mile. But I overcame it and kept going. And look at me now!

Look at you! Are you a size 2 or 4?
I’m a 2! I was a size 22 when I got on the ranch. I lost 20 sizes. 20 sizes! They had to take in my finale dress every single week. We brought three wardrobe changes.

'Biggest Loser' producer looks ahead to new season, addresses contestant health

From Tracey’s frightening trip to the hospital to the group’s special tour of the White House vegetable garden, it was quite a year on The Biggest Loser.  EW talked to creator-executive producer Mark Koops about the show’s most memorable moments and whether we’ve seen the last of the 400-pound plus contestants.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Was this a milestone season by virtue of the fact you went to the White House?
MARK KOOPS:
I think every year we gain momentum. There is no greater embrace of how far this show has come. In season 9, we’ll go to the Olympic training facility in Colorado. To be embraced by incredible organizations like the Olympic committee or the NFL or Michelle Obama’s office in the White House is a total validation.

We saw Shay weigh in at 476 pounds, the heaviest contestant in the show’s eight-year history [Editor's note: Thanks to a sponsorship by Subway, she'll return for season 9.] Will you raise the bar come January? Will there be someone over 500 lbs?
Coincidentally we do, but hopefully at some point we tap out. Hopefully, no one gets bigger before they have to come be on the show. It’s a sad thing in terms of physical health. But I hope at some point the contestants begin to get smaller because they’ve begun to make the change without us. There’s only 16 Golden Tickets to come get help from Bob and Gillian. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to hand out many more Golden Tickets for people but inspire people to do it on their own.

Watching what Tracey went through at the beginning of the season was scary, which is probably why the show invited scrutiny from media outlets, like the New York Times, over whether the rapid weight loss program was potentially dangerous. Is that fair?
Of course it’s fair to ask. We’ve always said these people who come on the show are not looking to lose 20 or 30  pounds; they’re looking to lose significant amounts of weight. They have a lot of excess of fat, they have a lot of medical issues. It is a boot camp. They are working with the best trainers in the world and the best medical professionals in the world while getting the best food and living away from the pressures of everyday life. The results aren’t normal, they are unique. We’ve never said to anyone that you should try to replicate this results at home because you are not living in the compound. That’s why we are working with Jillian on a new show. She’ll go into people’s homes and it will be much more relatable because she’ll show them how to do it at  home. The Biggest Loser is a unique place to come. For those who criticize the show, we say you’re welcome to come see what goes into it. They’ll see how hard these contestants work and how hard the trainers work…it’s not a quick fix. These people work their butts off, literally and figuratively.

When will Jillian’s show debut on NBC?
Next summer. We’re doing eight episodes. It shows the other side of what goes on here.

So how are you going to top the White House?
It was so funny, we were in the control room tonight and the package was playing with the White House and we were like, ‘Damn, it’s hard to beat it.’ Hopefully, next time Michelle Obama will be kind enough to grace us with her presence. That’s the only way we can top it, because really, there’s no where else to go.

First Look: 'Big Bang Theory' hooks up Sheldon and Leonard's mother!

Categories: The Big Bang Theory

Hate to say “I told you so,” but… Wait. No. I love to say “I told you so.” And I did! I totally hinted at a future hook-up between Big Bang Theory brainiacs Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Leonard’s mother, Beverly (The Good Wife‘s Christine Baranski), and see? On Monday’s episode, “The Maternal Congruence,” it’s happening. At least that’s the conclusion I’m drawing from the (possibly misleading) exclusive image above. READ FULL STORY »

Ratings: Football wins week; 'Desperate' is top scripted show

In a seven-day period that saw several shows in repeats or off-the-air because of holiday specials, NBC’s always-dominant Sunday Night Football easily won the week ending Dec. 6, pulling in 20.9 million viewers. The second-place finisher (and week’s top scripted show, for the first time this season!) was a surging Desperate Housewives, which drew a healthy 14.9 million viewers, but was still a rather distant 6 million viewers behind Sunday Night Football. However, Desperate‘s No. 2 spot was still totally a positive: The heavily hyped hour (thank that plane crash!) was up a healthy 2.1 million over the previous week’s episode. Third place for the week went to a repeat, specifically CBS’ NCIS, the top scripted show of the season overall, which drew 14.3 million viewers.

Because of the slow week, several shows saw their star rise, in terms of where they landed on the chart. Survivor landed at No. 5 with 12.8 million viewers; The Amazing Race wrapped its season with a season-high finale at No. 7 with 12.3 million viewers; and the rarely-in-the-Top-20 Brothers & Sisters made a splash at No. 10 with 10.8 million viewers. The rest of the Top 20—with viewership totals—is after the jump.

'Jersey Shore' star 'The Situation' talks about MTV's controversial series

MTV’s Jersey Shore premiered less than a week ago but already has been the subject of growing controversy. Italian-American groups, like UNICO, have blasted the series for what they perceive as a negative portrayal of Italian-Americans and the use of the words “guidos” and “guidettes.” UNICO is now asking for its members to complain to MTV’s advertisers and for the network to remove the series from its schedule. EW talked to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, one of the series’ cast members, about the controversy surrounding Jersey Shore, his new best friend Pauly D, and whether or not he’d do a second season.

On his newfound reality fame:
“I’ve only been out one night since the show aired and as soon as I walked into the bar it was pretty wild. People were like, ‘Oh my god that’s him. That’s The Situation.’ And then people asked me to take pictures and stuff like that.” READ FULL STORY »

Oh, Alex Karev.
