Scoop: 'Law & Order: SVU' collars Sharon Stone

Law & Order: SVU is once again living up to its title as the most stunt-casting-obsessed series on television. Sharon Stone is joining the cast for a four-episode arc beginning in April.

The Oscar-nominated actress will play a former cop-turned-prosecutor who will (presumably) go toe-to-toe with Benson, Stabler, and the gang.

“It is obviously a thrill and a delight to have a star of Sharon’s wattage and importance joining SVU,” raves SVU boss Dick Wolf.

This isn’t Stone’s first flirtation with the small screen. In 2004, she won an Emmy for playing nutjob attorney Sheila Carlisle in three episodes of ABC’s The Practice. And the following year she recurred on Showtime’s Huff as a high-powered PR exec.

Thoughts? Did SVU top themselves? Who should SVU‘s next dream hire be? Sound off below!

I am still hoping for Wentworth Miller to return (his story wasn’t fully told) but all in all I think this is an interesting casting as SVU always did … just to recall a few names Ludacris, Hillary Duff, Melissa Joan Hart (these are the ones i remember) and Sara Wayne Callies was on too :)

I was surprised to see Robin Williams on an episode not too long ago. I thought the episode had a weird story line, but I liked seeing Williams on the show.

      • Dave

Me too–that episode showcased his talent for doing different voices.

    • Stabler

I hope Sharon and Benson do a threeway Basic Instinct with me during this 4 episode run!

      • Seann

        This is so funny!

    • Dj

Wentworth Miller was great in his guest spot. I want him to join the cast full time.

TV pays good money and she probably wouldn’t have done it for one episode. I can see Stone going into a cable episode like Glenn Close.

I still can’t watch the Ludacris’ episodes because he makes me so mad and I totally forget he’s such a cool person in real life. LOL

    • Alli G.

Yeah, what’s up with that? I coulda swore I remember reading that Wentworth was going to join the cast as a series regular. He really didn’t do too well in the one episode he was in but I thought if he just had some time to adjust he would be cool…I dunno..

this show has totally jumped the shark.

    • michka

Acually, this expression did. It’s about time to get rid of it.

    • michka

By the way, even the Fonz came on the show.

  • Vanessa

HELL YES!!!! I’ve been hoping she’d do SVU for a LOOOONG time. wooo hooo!

  • Anne

However stuntlike this casting sounds, it could work, I think.

The only person I dream to see on TV again is Gillian Anderson, but she needs to be the star of her own show.

As far as L&O is concerned, I’d love to see more quality male actors, possibly from Eastern Europe, guys who look real and have expressive (a.k.a. unbotoxed) faces. In particular, Krzysztof Majchrzak (“Inland Empire”) comes to mind.

Dick Wolf and Neal Baer should use the big bucks they’re paying all these “guest stars” to get better writers. Evidently, they couldn’t care less about it. The staff of writers they have is plain awful. The last seasons have turned into a comedy. What a waste of a show.

    • Mackenzie

I completely agree. What happened to the writers of season 1? Or the episodes like Fault? Come on, guys. You used to be good.

      • Karen

Agree with everything you said. Both of you!

  • robinepowell

Ooooo how nice for them. So far my favourite guest star, was Carol Burnett….

    • Caitlin

That was awesome. Then again, she’s amazing in everything. This season, the only guest I remember is Rosie Perez. I can’t wait to see Kathy Griffin and Sharon Stone will probably do a good job.

SVU has become a vanity stop for “stars” who want to prove they’ve got “range” more than it is about the sadness and believability of the world the show portrays. It stinks that they stoop that low to inflate it’s ratings with movie stars when ‘Without A Trace’, which had higher ratings with only occasionally recognized but well-placed guest stars and a complete devotion to being true to it’s concept gets canceled because either CBS was too chintzy to pay WB studios or WB was too greedy to renegotiate with CBS. Where is the justice?

    • kt

This is so true, with only a couple exceptions, SVU has in the last couple season rapidly become just a showcase for has-beens, never-weres, and the recently out of rehabs. It’s only a very small step above “Love Boat” at this point.

    • zeezee

CBS is getting chintzy…they cancelled As The World Turns (quality show) due to the almighty dollar…which sucks but what do they care about us, the viewers right?

  • motown

Great casting. Now all they have to do is write some decent scripts like they used to and I will watch again.

  • Coffy

SVU has totally jumped the shark cause every storyline gets more and more ridiculous. This is coming from a big fan since 2nd year.

  • Kim

What the hell????? Why? Another hag to play a prosecutor for four episodes? Did they forget how terrible Paxton was – Christine Lahti’s character? Why can’t they just keep Stephanie March as the permanent ADA on the show?

    • Mackenzie

Stephanie March hates NBC. She said so in an interview with Bonnie Hunt.

  • gio

Great! SVU is the best show ever!

  • JIM s

eMILY DECHANTEL [ BONES] PERFECT FOR DRAMA!

  • Mel

Yeah yeah…. All they want is to have “big names” on the show, which is absolutely ridiculous. I’d rather have unrecognizables with good writing any day of the week instead of this BS. Big Names my ass, Neal Baer. You’re ruining what was once a decent show.. oh wait..

  • John

Great job with some excellent Guest stars — Eric McCormack was fantastic and so was Ellen Burstyn as Stabler’s mom. Adding Stone will be great and will add to the sexual chemistry w/ Stabler and possible Benson. This is by far the best cop show on TV. Tired of Caruso and that affectated voice on CSI: Miami. Enough already..

    • Carolyn

Just wanted to comment on your note about David Caruso. He is fabulous on CSI Miami; his voice is one of the things that I love about him. I do agree with you about Ellen Burstyn and Eric McCormack; they were excellent.

  • davidsask

She has nothing better to do! Perhaps she should get a show of her own!?

    • Buzz

      that’s her next step…
