fall of 2010 wont see jay on nbc. i guarantee it.

Rey, I’d like you to meet jd.
jd, I’d like you to meet rey.
Something tells me you two will get along great.
Haha yeah … apparently rey and jd fail at trolling properly. If you’re going to use multiple aliases to try to create a false sense of public perception, at least be smart enough not to use the same message over again.
Damn you, NBC. I love Conan and SVU, but I will happily walk away from SVU if you screw him over! Damn it! I hate you, Jay Leno.
Doesn’t O’Brien have some sort of contract preventing this from happening? Leno is so lame, but he has been for years, hence the lack Emmy nominations, so I guess this is beating a dead horse. Mediocrity wins again on network TV.
No one has a contract that precludes cancellation, no. Not since Milton Berle’s era. But Jay is really terrible, he should be cancelled, replaced with a high-rated scripted drama, and then The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien will pick up ratings immensely… and eventually Letterman, who is old, will retire. Open roads ahead for Conan!
I didn’t realize that NBC just had a high-rated scripted drama just sitting around! Also, interesting how you want to cancel Leno’s show after only 4 months because of low ratings, but you’re willing to give Conan years to try to bring up his low ratings. Hypocrite much?
It’s ridiculous that they put on a lousy (cheap to produce show) that needs a smaller audience to keep it going and cancel good entertaining shows like “Life.” It would be really cost effective to put OLD reruns of Law and Order on at 10pm! I would rather watch reruns than Jay Leno. And no production costs for NBC!!
I miss Life!
Here’s what you do, NBC:
Put Leno on Saturdays 8:00 to 11:00, then local news and SNL.
Create an American Sabado Gigante-style variety show with Leno. His audience doesn’t go out on Saturday anyway. It doesn’t have to do great ratings to do well. This way you can keep Leno happy, his viewers happy, and free up hours of primetime TV without having to screw anyone over.
Wow, that is a good idea. Conan O’Brien can entertain us, unmolested by a bad lead-in from then on. Good thinking. Are you listening, NBC?
I like the idea of Saturday, and I was also wondering about all of the other networks that NBC owns….couldn’t they do something with him on USA or some other network a la “George Lopez” or whatever? Why does this have to be M-F ON NBC itself????
I NEVER liked Leno….let him go for good. PLEASE!!!!
they better not screw over conan. everybody loves him!!!
nbc is a mess
Agreed!
“Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today.”
I think we have an early front-runner for funniest line of 2010.
Jay Leno is the most compelling entertainer in the world today. Conan Obrien will never come close.
I feel bad for Conan having to be stuck in the middle of a B.S comedian/show and a B.S Network
Yeah he needs to head on over to ABC
I think some of you are missing an important point, at least in terms of bashing Leno. From what i read, it was NBCs idea for the Jay Leno show in the first place. They didn’t want him to leave the Tonight Show, but as part of Conan’s contract negotiations he was promised it or he would’ve left. NBC was trying to appease him as the future, but didn’t want to let go of the past. They offered him a spot that he took. Honestly, I don’t think any of it was great. Conan had a great thing with the Late Night thing, but its doesn’t work as well earlier. Leno was on top when he left, and was more or less forced out.
Exactly BW! I think you’re the one of the only people to post a comment that actually makes sense, and that isn’t some sweeping generalization or fallacy. Kudos to you!
I feel bad because Conan (and even Jimmy) have FINALLY found their grooves after weak starts. While Conan is always my default, I tape/watch other shows based on their guests. The guest quality and variety really kind of sucks for Conan.
Although I’m not the biggest Leno fan or O’ Brien fan. Leno still has a broader appeal then O’ Brien. Conan has more of an acquired taste.
NBC clearly is spinning by saying that Jay’s ratings are within expectations. Having his network say we’ve expected you to perform last, therefore we’re standing with you, is clearly BS. NBC accentually is saying we planned on being last in the ratings is a sign of surrender to ABC and CBS. Whoever makes these kids of statements from NBC needs to get canned.
NBC Universal has a dozen or so networks on broadcast and cable. NBC would be wise to introduce the rest of the country to USA’s “Burn Notice” or “White Collar”. They can play all of the last 3 seasons of “Burn Notice” every night at 10pm to introduce their audience to the show. That gives them a couple months to find permanent programs for the 10pm time slot. It might be a wise idea for example to rerun the newest episode of “Burn Notice” on NBC, on Monday following it’s original airing on USA, on the previous Friday. “Burn Notice” is a ratings bananza for USA and this could be just one more way to increase the audience overall between USA, NBC and hulu.
A minimal 1.5? No wonder NBC is in last place…they don’t listen to their viewers. So they’ll just keep making the same mistake rather than admit they were wrong and the viewers will just slip away….
Not that I wish Jay bad…I just think one or two nights would make more sense…I wouldn’t watch it but someone might…you know…keeping with the old adage…leave ‘em wanting more.
I am so glad Jay will be back on late night TV. We will watch him every night. Conan will still have a show, but he should be moved. Most of us have stopped watching or changed our late night TV viewing. I am glad Jay is going to return. YEAH!!!
I’m a little confused. Didn’t Leno say HE had decided to leave the Tonight Show a year or so ago? And didn’t Leno, himself, announce that Conan would be his predessessor on the Tonight Show? Didn’t Leno also say that he was announcing it way ahead of his scheduled departure to avoid the kind of problem that occurred when Johnny Carson retired? (and Letterman was screwed) Wasn’t Leno the one who later decided that he didn’t want to leave late night TV and forced NBC to develop a Prime Time show to keep him from going to FOX in the same time slot? In my opinion, Craig Ferguson is the funniest late night host, second only to the late Johnny Carson.
