TBH, I’m still bitter about the endings that some of the BSG characters got so it’s hard for me to give Caprica a fair shot. I wasn’t that impressed with the pilot either, but I’ll probably Tivo it for a little while and see if I can get into the characters and storylines.

As a true fan of TV, I don’t understand how people base their judgments of one show on either one single pilot or on a show that came before. If the only beef you have is with the way BSG ended, why the frak does that have anything to do with whether or not you’ll watch Caprica? Eick and Moore keep telling everyone it’s not the same show. SO STOP JUDGING IT BY WHETHER OR NOT YOU LIKED DAYBREAK. And seriously, judging shows solely on their pilots? I would never have watched How I Met Your Mother or 30 Rock if that were the case. I’m definitely going to give Caprica a shot. As for the people who say Jane Espensen ruined everything she touched on BSG, you should be ashamed. She’s an amazing writer and probably more talented than you. Could you have done the things she has? Didn’t think so.

I would love it if this show were all about the teens, Polly Walker, and their robot theistic adventures and not the mob, lawyers and manpain.

I have a problem with that. I felt the prequel was like watching a show about a lot of Mary Sues.

The way they ended BSG makes me think twice about getting into any other projects these guys do. Some great stuff, but all setup and no payoff isn’t much fun.

    • Astralis

No payoff? The series had a brilliant and sublime ending!

I look forward to this. But, remember when George Lucas wanted to move away from the stark differences of good and evil in the design of the prequel Star Wars? He failed. It wasn’t until Episode III that the good and evil began to display itself cinematically and the series came alive. I think Caprica is falling into this same trap. I think characters can still have dimension and there can still be stark differences between good and evil on the screen.

Is the 2 hour pilot airing tonight the same thing that’s on the DVD that came out last year?

    • J.Bradley

No. the DVD was unrated so this will be edited for television.I think this pilot ep is a good set-up, anyway. The show will develop over the ten eps they’ll play this season. Supposedly they’ve made twenty eps – the rest playing next fall. I disagree that this series stands on it’s own. I have to admit I was hoping this series would be more like Issac Asimov’s robot sci-fi and series but this is very much “Battlestar Galactica: The Early Years” I don’t know – maybe the show will develop it’s own identity over the course of it’s run. In the promo material on the DVD, they liken this show to the historical series “Rome”, it’s just set on other planets in the future. I like anyway that they’ll get into the other Colonial cultures in this series. It could just be that they could play it either way. If they figure they need more BSG fans, they’ll make it connect more to THAT series, otherwise they’ll probably proceed at first to more or less give it it’s own identity.
