Press Tour Scoop: Peter Krause recalls 'Dirty Sexy Money' nightmare

“Here, we have an agreement about what this show should be on the part of the network and the producers. And on that show, there wasn’t an agreement on what the show should be, so there was a lot of battling behind the scenes.” — Peter Krause comparing his new family drama (NBC’s Parenthood) to his last one (ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money) at the Television Critics Association press tour today.

    I loved Dirty Sexy Money!!

  • analiesejoy

    I love Peter Krause!

  • Doug

Me too! You can’t go wrong with Greg Berlanti!

  • HRFE

Oh I looooove Peter Krause and I loved Dirty Sexy Money- I can’t wait for Parenthood!

  • jake

One of the many victims of the writers strike. No one more affected than Heroes and Pushing Daisies.

    • Dave

Heroes wasn’t as much a victim of the writer’s strike as it was of awful writing.

  • Sina

Well I blame him. He was a producer. The first season was great. Then that second season crap pissed me off!

    • Rita

he wasn’t a producer just an actor..

      • Cliff

In a way, Sina and Rita are both right and wrong. Krause has a producer credit on the show, but this is a standard credit for virtually every lead on a network show. Its main purpose is financial…it means extra money for the actor, especially from syndication and/or DVD sales

      • Jake

Actually he was both. He was a producer for the show as well.

    • Greg

Completely agree. Season 1 was brilliant, almost “Royal Tennenbaums” the TV show. Season 2 was Grey’s Anatomy, after hours. Blech.

  • janey33

having worked on another Greg Berlanti show, that is pretty much how things are run…badly

    • Buzz

he isn’t the wunderkid he’s been made out to be?
      guess not

I can see B&S being very similar to DSM in the chaos behind-the-scenes. Hell, most of the time B&S is chaos on-screen. Everwood seemed like a Berlanti show that was drama-free behind-the-scenes, but I could be wrong.

  • lucy2

DSM started off good, and then just got horrible. Don’t know who’s to blame, but someone really screwed it up.

  • Vivi

    I so miss “DirtySexyMoney”. :o (

    • dogfoot

Not the kind of show I usually like, but I really got into it. I hated when they killed off Carmelita and then there was no follow-up.

  • M Weyer

Seriously horrible move holding it back after the writers’ strike and then getting rid of the original show-runners and a lot of the dark humor. It could have been a great guilty pleasure but collapsed intoa total mess.

  • Scotty

It’s been widely reported that the “changes” in season two were the fault of too many cooks in the kitchen during the writers strike. DSM was off the air for ten months. During that time “someone” (suits at ABC, new showrunners, etc.) decided that the show needed a complete overhaul & made a number of changes that ultimately ruined the show.

    • MrDraper

I agree, the show was fine the way it was during the first season. They should have stuck with the original showrunner, the writing during the first season was much better than during the second. It did not help matters that ABC waited until September of ’08 to relaunch this show and Pushing Daisies.

  • Semaphore

Dirty Sexy Money was great right up until his wife cheated on him and then I just lost interest.

  • still me

Still have on my DVR! Luv Dirty Sexy Money! NBC has the 10 o’clock hour open- just sayin

  • Judi

He was great in Six Feet Under!

    • Justin

Six Feet Under was brilliant! especially the first 3 seasons..

  • bunker

Dirty Sexy Money was one of the most uneven shows I’ve ever seen. One moment it was enthralling, the next dull as dishwater. And Lucy Lui was the final nail in the coffin for me.
