Feel free to break into song after you read this next sentence: Fox has given Glee an early season 2 pickup.
Well, what are you waiting for — start singing, dammit!
Okay, stop singing, ’cause there’s more.
Fox is launching a nationwide casting search this February to fill three new season 2 roles. Per the network’s press release, “Auditions will be open to amateur individuals as well as professionals between the ages of 16-26, and all hopefuls will be able to submit auditions online. Additional details will be announced soon [via] fox.com/glee.”
The audition process will be turned into a multi-part reality special to air at the end of the summer. “We’re going to pull back the curtain on the process,” says Fox president Kevin Reilly. “And the winners will be revealed in the first episode of the season.”
Okay, you can resume singing now.

Fantastic, Ausiello! ‘Glee’ is the best musical dramedy ever made
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! I feaking looooovvvveee that show, its one of the best on tv right now and probably one of the best ever! I am so happy it got a chance at a second season!
WooHoo! More Rachel in short, plaid skirts! Now all we have to do is get Quinn back into the cheerleader outfit and get her to make out with Rachel. Award winning TV!
creep.
WIN!
EPIC WIN!
okkkk!!! omg cant wait!?!?!!?!?
So, I’ve been wondering: Will this be a series, wherein the kids don’t get older and don’t get into the next grade? Or will there eventually be new actors?
Asdie from this, yay!
Well, how old are the characters supposed to be now, 16, 17? So that would probably make them juniors in high school. In “Sectionals,” Finn said that football season was over, which usually happens in October I think (at least I think that’s when my high school had its homecoming), and season one is only halfway done. If they finish the first season sometime around spring break, season two could begin by having them coming back from spring break. If you keep that timing, they could get through maybe three seasons with the current cast and sometime in season three, start bringing in some younger students so that when the current glee kids graduate, they still have a show.
Rachel specifically stated in the pilot that she’s a sophomore. Not sure about the rest of them. Also, this first season supposedly ends with Regionals. Perhaps season 2 will be about Nationals? (Assuming, of course, that they win Regionals, which may not happen.) In that case, one season doesn’t necessarily equal one school year.
The characters are sophomores it was in one episode i dont remember which one though.
But do you think new kids would be the same as the original cast? that is always the risk of doing a high school show… you are limited. I don´t think there will be another Rachel, Finn, Mercedes, Kurt, Arty, even Tiffany, Santana and Puck!!!
That’s how I figured it could work out. But seriously, would it work with a new cast? I doubt so, because let’s face it, we’re invested into the characters and music, not so much in the plot.
We know that Rachel is a sophomore, so let’s assume that they’re all sophomores. That’s (hopefully) three seasons with the original cast right there, with new additions to the club as seasons go on.
I’m sure the kids will age, but the question is, will the show stick with new high schoolers year after year or follow our heroes out of high school? Doesn’t Friday Night Lights kinda do both?
If they did that, it would be a completely different show.
I don’t think they thought that far ahead yet and just concentrated on getting the show off the ground. The cast of Buffy were twentysomethings through all 3 highschool years and could have pulled off season 4 in high school too. It depends on how the actors age may dictate things but they should be safe for a couple of seasons.
I read somewhere that Ryan Murphy and company have the first three seasons of the show pretty much mapped out.
…Yessssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT NEWS, love GLee.
Don’t stop, believing!!! …. Wait…. Why am I on my work desk singing and why is everyone looking at me like that?!!
YAY!
)
Don’t Stop Believing!!!
Good, I’m set for the next year and a half now.
Ew is so flaming
Yes it is hot!
I am so shocked…
Love this show!…I mean, my wife will be really happy.
LOL Nice!
Then it better up its game. These last few eps have been horrible. I’m fine with Glee, it just needs to be better than it’s been lately.
What? “Sectionals” was amazing. And the stupid fake baby story line is at least out in the open now. I agree though that it seemed to be stalling a bit before the fall finale. I do worry about their ability to keep the show going for the long-term.
I agree, it’s not as perfect as everyone thinks it is. But it’s like criticizing Twilight, watch out for little girls telling you how stupid and mean you are.
It’s a flawed show, yes, but an incredibly enjoyable one. I feel like the show finally started finding its groove in the latter half of the fall season, with “Wheels”, “Mattress”, and “Sectionals”. Looking forward to the next 9, which were actually produced post-audience reaction.
LOL. My teenage daughter sounds just like you when talking about Glee, and she LOVES Twilight.
Hi, little girl!
Yeah, that’s why it got picked up for another season – because the quality has declined.
it was picked up because of DVD sales
I agree about Wheels and Hairography, the worst two eps of glee. But Mattress and Sectionals were so amazing it sort of compensates.
Wheels was amazing, don’t know what you are talking about. But i agree, the stupid fake pregnancy plot line was kind of annoying. So hopefully next seasons story lines will be better.
AWESOME!!!
Glee picked up for season 2 = Duh.
Of course, if it was on NBC it would have been cancelled or replaced by grandmothers doing calistenics in chairs.
LOL! Actually, NBC probably wouldn’t have picked it up in the first place. Maybe it would have been considered as a mid-season replacement for Grannies Calistenics.
That “grandmothers doing calistenics in chairs” idea sounds interesting to me. Could we get together and discuss producing an hour long version to air Monday to Friday nights at 10:00?
Hi, this is Jeff Zucker, CEO of NBC. Thank you so much for the suggestion. Granmother doing calistenics, great idea!
Yes, let’s do a two-hour snooze block and REALLY rock the seniors!
11:35-12:05 Grandmas Doing Calistenics in Chairs
12:05-12:35 LENO: Annoying laugh and dated slapstick
12:35-1:05 Matlock
1:05-2:05 Kitten sweater super-store online shopping network!
KITTEN SWEATER WHERE–
I mean, who owns the broadcasting rights to the International Scrabble Meet?
but where is the full hour of “Watching Paint Dry”? That would definitely be on NBC’s line up
Terrific! Love this show and can’t wait to see how it unfolds. So hoping Schu’s wife is out of the picture… but to the actor’s credit, she has turned the wife into a witch. Fantastic acting on her part!
I can’t stand Teri either and I’m glad the fake pregnancy is revealed, but I think their relationship makes for a very interesting storyline and gives Shu some depth. If he just dumps Teri and goes to Emma, then that’s both A) predictable and B) sending a bad signal. As annoying as she is, I hope to see them try to work through the debacle (and her nutjob sister) she created.
Though Terri is a great character (compelling and funny) she needs to go; Will and Emma are meant for each other! Cutest couple on TV!!
