The good about Idol is that it’s the TV version of a record company’s artist and development dept. Record comp’s aren’t spending money developing artists like years ago (i.e. Motown), Idol has taken that place…record execs look in to see who has the talent and sign them…the artists are already seasoned and know how to take to the stage….
Whenever I saw the X Factor, I had to turn it off…all the drama, esp. behind the stage was coaxed … people crying and breaking down on stage….and I’m sick of watching people stand on the stage and wait for approval/disapproval. That’s old. How about sending the singer away behind the stage, let the judges talk among themselves and bring the singer back on stage to hear their decision.

I have a question: How is the X Factor a rip-off of Idol when its origins were created first? X Factor was devised to replace Pop Idol, which American Idol came from (AI is the American version of UK’s Pop Idol.) I think the departure is a smart one for Simon. Idol’s heyday has come and gone. It’s old. I’ll be looking forward to seeing the X Factor come to the U.S. with Cowell as creator and judge and (very likely) Paula Abdul in the judge’s chair as well.

    =O

Every year, the week before AI debuts, Fox requires some sort of PR to boost ratings. This time its Simon’s turn to help out. I can’t wait for this show to just go away and with Ellen joining the fray, this could be the end of it’s success as we know it

I think it has to be someone big to keep the ratings up. I think Howard Stern would be great! He is a fan of the show and has the personality along with not being afraid to be honest. But they would probably have to move the show to New York for it to happen because I don’t see him giving up his radio show.

Please nobody boring, the show will sink if they pick someone lame

Howard is just as outspoken and critical and he would be good but he’s too devoted to his radio show in New York.

Thanks people :) . I enjoy reading your comments more than the article, hehe.. Why don’t you like Ellen? Seems like a nice person to me, although I really dunno anything about her, the only time I watched her show was when David Cook was her special guest. I’ll really miss Simon but I think Idol will survive after him. After all, for the likes of me, Idol is a hard habit to break

X-Factor a rip-off of Idol? You certainly don’t know fact from fiction. Fact is: American Idol was patterned after Pop Idol which aired in the UK in 2001 and 2003. When Simon Cowell decided to put up X Factor in 2004, Pop Idol was put on hiatus. It never came back because of the success of X Factor in the UK. Those who are criticizing X Factor so much do not know what kind of show it is. So what is wrong with good production? So what is wrong with over 30 contestants? And groups should be welcome in any singing competition. This year’s winer (Joe McElderry mediocre)? Well, how good is Kris Allen? Or Taylor Hicks for that matter. At least Joe sold 700,000 copies of his cover version of “The Climb”. You can say what you want, but you don’t argue with sales that big (in a country where 100,000downloads can get you to the no. 1 spot in the chart)!!!

To Simon: go, boy, and make X Factor the hit it deserves to be in the USA.

You should have started the article– American Idol fans, start wearing those black shirts Simon Cowell was famous with for the massive May finale. I’m really looking forward to the montage of clips that they’ll have for Simon. That aside, I’m looking forward to seeing the talent that will compete on Idol this spring. Simon will never be replaced. Nobody can do his blunt and critical kind of judging. Many times he was right on the mark on the singer’s weaknesses with the singing. They should keep the judges as they are.

You know how I can tell that Simon Cowell is leaving this year? When he didn’t appear on the panel table with Randy, Kara and singer Mary J. Blige in the Atlanta auditions during one portion of Wednesday’s show. That tells me that Simon doesn’t want to be part of American Idol after this year.

    This. Will. Not. STAND!

I”ll watch any show that has both Simon and Paula

If he thinks the world can’t get along without him, just tell him to stick his finger in a glass of water, pull it out,and see what happens.

  • Rick Brown

I reccomend Mick Jagger as Simon’s replacement.

  • Cari

Simon’s attitude is a negative for Idol. I’m glad he’s leaving.
