Betty Suarez is officially on the rebound.
Mad Men‘s Rich Sommer has landed a potentially recurring role on Ugly Betty as a love interest for the show’s suddenly-single heroine, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Sommer, who is in between Mad Men seasons, will play Jimmy, a Seth Rogen-esque fireman who goes on what an Ugly insider calls “the date from hell” with Betty.
Sommer’s first episode is slated to air in March.
In related news, let’s observe a moment of silence in memory of Matt and Betty.

“Date from hell”? I don’t know if that really makes him a love interest. I really will miss Matt. I also hope he’ll be back in the end. I’m still on the fence about Betty and Daniel.

No, you’re not the only one! He was my FAVORITE. Henry was a tool, Matt was too mercurial, and Daniel’s (let’s face it) too wishy-washy.
Casey, Gio is still my favorite! The others can’t compare to him. Every single one of the episodes he was in were memorable. The other love interests are easily forgotten. Except Gio.
I agree with renee. Why are writers so afraid to have Betty or any female character in a show single for a while. I didn’t like Matt, but his exit from the show was unecessary and the writers only did it because they didn’t want to keep creating conflict in Betty and Matt’s relationship. I know conflict makes a good story, but seeing growth in a relationship can also make a good story.
Well, because to most, single = dating, and it sounds like that is exactly what this casting sounds like. Not a new ‘ship, but an episode or maybe two.

omg that sounds amazing! they look perfect together in that picture lol. But honestly, I want Betty to be single and stay single for the remainder of their season. Id rather see her grow more as a person than anything else right now. Shes always in a relationship!

Isn’t the title of the show “Ugly Betty”. I understand that the show is trying to show that a girl of her nature can get a guy to see her for what she really is. But then again, in the real world, she will not be having back to back offers like this. So, to make it more realistic, she needs to be single for a while. Complain about having crushes on guys that are not attracted to her. It happens it real life, how come it can’t happen on this show?
Totally agree 100%. I liked Henry (before the baby drama), but when we started seeing Gio, Matt, and guys I’ve forgotten being attracted to Betty before they got to know her, it rang a bit false for me. Daniel falling for her would be the ultimate payoff for a show whose message is “beauty is only skin deep”; he only dated models when “Ugly Betty” began!
betty is ugly on the inside. Daniel does care for inner beauty he likes women who’re little girls in their head, so it be cool if they did it in the office.
I’m probably one of the few that’s glad Matt is gone. He was nothing more than an overly sensitive rich guy with little ambition in life. It would be nice to see Gio again. He was a perfect match/foil for Betty. Maybe this new guy will work out and not break up with Betty every episode like Matt seemed to.
Gio? ‘Perfect’ match? Yeah – in theory perhaps, but not in reality. We only saw him with her for a few episodes, and they weren’t even in a ‘real’ relationship yet. So, how can you really say whether or not he was ‘perfect’ for her when they weren’t even truly involved with one another?
That’s true, they weren’t in a ‘real’ relationship, but they certainly had some great chemistry on screen and it would’ve been really nice to have seen how a romance between the two character’s would’ve played out – there was so much potential that just wasn’t tapped.
ANOTHER love interest! Jeez this girl is amazing! Personally, it’s not a disappointment to me to see Matt gone – the character was badly thought out and quite dull. I prefer a little fire in a relationship, so Gio was the best for me too. But, since that’s not going to happen and I’m not a fan of a Detty pairing either, I’d prefer to see her alone.
