'Jersey Shore' finale posts record ratings for MTV

MTV has yet to decide whether to order a second season of Jersey Shore but the latest ratings should speed up the process. Last night’s finale of the now-notorious reality show, following a group of people renting a beach house at the Jersey Shore, averaged a whopping 4.8 million viewers and a 4.8 rating in the age 12-34 demographic. That’s a 30% increase over the previous series high in that key demo. MTV reports that Shore posted incredible growth over its abbreviated season and the finale audience more than tripled that of the series debut. Many viewers also stuck around for Jersey Shore: The Reunion immediately after the finale; it delivered a 4.0 rating among persons 12-34 and attracted more than 4 million viewers.

Get over it! As long as people continue pumping out 18 kids, life on earth will continue. Thank you, Dugger family!

  • hanna

Of course they’ll be back for Season 2! Snooki and The Situation need time to continue their showmance.

  • Kenn

this is not like the real world, they have to keep the same cast or it will never work

    • alex

AGREED! i won’t watch or care if it’s a different group of people..

    • bill94545

I want to see more of these 7 Shoremates. I dont want Angelina invited back. Unlike RW, they had thier differences but really made a “family” like bond. Maybe that bond was easier since they were all from similar backgrounds. I loved it. And for everyoe who says this is what is wrong with youngpeople today… Change the season to summer, update the clothes and music and you have Saturday Night Fever. SNF is basically about a New York Italian who lives to go out, that is what you got in Jersey Shore.

Remember the days when MTV was about music? Those were good days. Is there anything on MTV that does not lower your IQ today?

    • AnonymousBlogger

OK Grandpa! You do realize that MTV is NOT about music anymore. They realized that business model would not work! If you hate it so much, stop complaining and give Doc Brown a call!

    • [Pfft]

I think “I Love Lucy”, “Gunsmoke” and “Happy Days” lowered everyone’s IQ before MTV came along.

      • Jon

By saying that you have just shown us yours…

  • Chappel

Who knew that trash was so valuable. And here I’ve been throwing it away all these years….

  • terry

People who watch this crap really have no right to complain about how bad tv is.

    • Jay

I watch it and love it and never complain how bad TV is. I also watch news, sports, movies, documentaries, etc.

    • maiv

Yeah, I think the people watching this aren’t the same people complaining about tv nowadays

  • Jane

Loved the show. Have 2 bring the original froup for season 2. It will not be the same if didderent group.

  • mark

i hate to admit it, but that show was awesome

  • James D

Where were these viewers when Conan was on?

  • Elle

I didn’t want to like this show, but I got sucked it. It’s entertaining!

  • Vincenzo from NYC

I have to admit, at first, I was a bit appauled by the show. This didn’t stop me from continuing to watch.. Initially I wanted to see what the hype was. I was mildy offended but then put on the next, and the next.. I was hooked. I do agree it won’t be the same with a different crew. They need to keep at least a few of the base “characters”, though I doubt they’ll be able to get all of them back. I really hope those kids made money.. I know MTV did, but for their exploitation they desereve a decent pay day..

  • Soni

I’m kinda embarrassed to say that my husband and I do watch Jersey Shore- which is mindless dribble. But with all the bad news we hear about all day long, one hour a week to be completely brainless is not such a bad thing.

  • Kim

Snooki is my hero. I wish I could be on this show. People should stop complaining about it. They’ve worked hard for their success and you’re all just jealous

    • Taylor

Oh please, these people can’t spell “work”, let alone do any. As for being jealous, I would doubt most people would want to be famous for being on a cheesy reality show. Some people aspire higher than that. But to each their own, enjoy your Snooki.

      • wakeforce

No, but they sure would like to get paid like a reality star!

  • Jigga

I hated it at first like everyone else but I got sucked in….fist pump fist pump…lol

  • kayp

how would the show work for a second season now that everyone knows who they are?? ESPECIALLY in Jersey…
