Melinda Clarke’s upcoming Vampire Diaries arc just got a whole lot juicier.
Executive producer Kevin Williamson tells me that Matt’s trashtastic mother, Kelly, will blow into Mystic Falls and waste no time digging her cougar claws into Ian Somerhalder’s Damon.
“If I didn’t have Kelly and Damon hook up there would be no God,” declares Williamson with a laugh. “What’s the point of doing TV if you’re not going to put those two characters together? That’s going to be a fun relationship to explore.”
Of course, Williamson points out that Kelly Donovan has more to offer than a reputation as a bad mom and a healthy appetite for vampire sex. Clarke’s character also shares a rich history with the town’s adult population. “We’ll reveal that she was friends with Sheriff [Elizabeth] and Elena’s mother,” he says. “The three of them were really tight friends back in the day. Sheriff and Kelly, in particular, have ongoing issues to deal with.”
DVR alert: Clarke’s Vampire Diaries debut is slated for not soon enough March 25.

I like the idea of this! Although for a second when I read Melinda Clarke was gonna be playing “Matt’s” mother I was thinking of Matt Davis (the actor who plays Alaric) rather than “Matt” (the character played by Zach Roerig) and my jaw almost dropped! I’m still having a hard time getting over the fact that Jasmine Guy is playing a grandmother!
I was griping about this on the other Vamp D thread; Jasmine Guy should not be playing a grandmother to a teenager. She’s about 5 years older than Lauren Graham.
Totally agree on the Jasmine Guy grandma stretch, maybe they can make it where its found out she’s really the Aunt… haha
I’m not sure I’m all that excited about pairing these two up. However, I am a fan of ‘older women and younger men’, so for that alone I’ll find some interest in it.
If it was reversed all of you people would be like, that’s sexist and creepy if some 40 year old was lusting after some teeny bopper. Like that pig Linda Hogan, ugh! Just date people your own age, these young guys wouldn’t be dating these old broads if the women didn’t act like a ho.

you know, this double standard really bugs – there is a bigger difference in age between Ian and Nina (31/20) than Ian and Melinda (31/40). Hollywood ‘s*cks.’

I just watched the new Lost promo, and I was reminded of how smokin Ian Somerhalder is. Seriously. He’s really hot. I kind of don’t care to see this pairing, though, because while I actually watch The Vampire Diaries, and enjoy it, I have a hard time watching his scenes. He’s too good for the show, and I always feel a little sorry for him. But still. He’s hot.

Damon really does seem to be on the level with older women–the hot tension with Bree last night proved that. He’s so much sexier with older women than with high-schoolers. –And, as other have pointed out, ANY time he’s got his shirt off is a good time!
I doubt it’ll be serious on Damon’s part.
I’m all for Damon/Elena getting together EVENTUALLY…not now, but in the future.
