'Ugly Betty' exclusive: Broadway vet Brian Stokes Mitchell cast as Willie's ex

Tags: , News

A skeleton is about to tumble out of Wilhelmina’s closet in the form of Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the Broadway vet is joining Ugly Betty in the potentially recurring role of Willie’s former flame, Don.

The twist? The guy is everything Vanessa Williams’ self-absorbed, superficial taskmistress is not: traditional, down-to-earth, and blue collar.

That’s right, Willie used to be in love with an average Joe.

Scandal!

Mitchell, who also spent seven years as Dr. Jackpot Jackson on Trapper John M.D., is slated to make his Ugly debut in late February.

i would think they are filming episode 15 at the moment. That episode will feature Rich Sommer. The next episode is episode 13 Chica and the man and it will air on Feb 3rd .10pm 9 c.

      • Willie_roxs

i actually think its episode 16 since they just had a casting call and this Don character is also in eppy 4.15 with Bobbys parents and this Jimmy character but i dont know cuz i dont work for them though i would love to :)

      • firemendate

I hope they don’t cancel it

  • Fraser

Did he play Fraser’s black neighbor in, um, “Fraser”?

    • kimmie

Yes he did play the neighbor, Cam Winston on Fraser

    • SirLizard

No, I’ve never heard of this “Fraser”, but Brian Stokes Mitchell did play Frasier’s neighbor on “Frasier”.

      • paige

grammar police quota of the day

      • paige turner

Where is your capitalization and punctuation??

      • Amber

calm down paige holy crap haha

      • Matty

It’s not grammar, Paige. It’s spelling. Go back to high school.

  • MissLobyt

LOL. Sounds promising! I can’t wait!!!

  • Todd

I remember him as Hillary Banks’ arrogant beau Trevor on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, who went bungee-jumping to give the show it’s funniest moment:

    Trevor: Hilly Banks!

    Hillary: Yes, Trevor!

    Trevor: Will you marry m–

    SPLAT!!!

    • DK

That moment traumatized me. That is the scene I describe for people whenever I am asked why I will never, ever try bungee jumping.

    • Belle

OMG! I remember that. Pretty funny. He was also on Trapper John MD. He has a fantastic singing voice.

    • Candice

OMG!! I rememeber that! I might have to google Trapper John MD!

  • michael

I hope that they have enough time left to wrap this show up for us fans. I’m so sad that the ratings are beyond help.

    • shaz10

Check out the save Ugly Betty video on YT.And pass onto others.

      • KYTessa

shaz I can’t find it. Please post a link.

    • Amber

well you beetta keep watchin then!

  • rwc

Vanessa Williams and Brian Stokes Mitchell starred together in Kiss of the Spider Woman on Broadway — far superior to the original cast with Chita Rivera

    • paige

wasnt he in the original cast of Kiss of the spider woman?

  • Vanity Feral

Is he going to be Nico’s father?

  • Todd

If ever a show needs and deserves to be saved, Ugly Betty does. It’s really a great show. Any chance it could get picked up? I hear NBC is need a few good shows!

  • MC

Dear lord, this show is about to be freaking cancelled. The ratings are terrible and show is worse. Do we really need 2 or 3 posts per week on a show that no one gives a crap about?

Pssst, the answer is: Hell no.

    • Willie_roxs

hmmm why are you here again? easy if you dont care dont comment no one is twisting your arm

    • AJ

I’d have to agree with Willie roxs. There are plenty of shows that I believe Ausiello wastes space on. I don’t read those posts; I sure as he** don’t post something on them!

    • Jeff

Do you need to make ANY posts on something you don’t care about? Answer? No. You must have no life.

  • Emily

I agree – Ugly Betty has been on fire this year. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the episodes this season.

  • Kevin

    Coalhouse Walker! cool

  • Willie_roxs

This is exciting, i wonder if he is Nicos father THAT will be interesting if not what is his purpose I love ugly betty its been on a roll this season there hasnt been an episode i went snooze to keep it up one of the few good shows that still exsists

    • jdaniels

Yeah it would be interesting if he turns out to be Nico’s dad considering the whole series of events that just ended with Willie telling Nico she never wants to see her again! Brian Stokes Mitchell plays a great snob in other things I have seen him in, will be interesting to see him in this role! Betty is great this season, even if it will probably be its last due to ratings!!

  • dave

I want the two of them to sing a musical number together!

  • Darth Clavie

    I’m excited!
Over the Xmas break I applied myself to watch all the episodes up to date of UB – I sort of put a pause in my watching after the end of season 1 ’cause I dunno – and now I’m loving the show again.

Though, after watching all those episodes back to back I sort of hate Henry now.

    Anyway, :D

    • Amber

      ya henry is lameeeeeee

    • Carly

I hated Henry the moment he ditched Betty for his manipulating girlfriend…again and again and again. He’s a major wuss. Team Gio! :->

  • Anne

All this casting news bodes well for the show, I assume? I admit that I almost wrote off this show but this season’s creative “resurgance” is a breath of fresh air.

    • shaz10

it has been very good.I would like more Daniel and Betty scenes but other than that the episodes have been very good. Its up to all Ugly Betty fans to spread the word and get friends to watch. The ratings need to go.Everyone remember the next episode is on Feb 3rd.

      • jdaniels

I watch but I DVR everything! I cant be bothered to watch commercials anymore! Lol.
