Breaking: The CW back in business with 'Gilmore' girl Amy Sherman-Palladino

It’s not a Gilmore Girls movie but it’s pretty much the next best thing: The CW has picked up an hour-long drama pilot from Gilmore creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and exec producer Dan Palladino.

Dubbed the Untitled Wyoming Project, the potential fall ’10 series is described as a family soap set on a horse farm in a small town in Midwest or Rockies.

It’s Gilmore Girls meets Little House on the Prairie!

In other pilot pickup news, The CW has also ordered Nikita, a contemporary update of (duh) La Femme Nikita. The logline: Nikita has gone rogue, and a new Nikita is being trained to replace her.

It’s really annoying that they keep making new shows and using the “it’s Gilmore Girls meets (insert different show here)” line for promotions. They used that to promote Life Unexpected and now they are doing it with this show. In my world nothing will ever compare to GG!

here, here! Nothing will ever be as good as Gilmore Girls! We seriously need a movie or something for closure..they dragged the last season through the mud and then had only a little time to ‘fix’ it… I’m still not really happy on how it ended. That being said, Life UneXpected is actually pretty good but nothing like Gilmore Girls :)

      • Matty

The phrase is “hear, hear” not “here, here”

      • firemendate

        So happy!

      • erica

        totally agree on that

      • Amanda

I totally agree w/U!! The finale of GG did not worth the whole show…. It just wasn’t good enough…

    • superso

      thank you. my thoughts exactly!

    • Andrea

yes, i agree. nothing will ever compare to gilmore girls, even if it is the original creator. you can’t say it’ll be the same because it just won’t be. i definitely will be checking out this new pilot come fall 2010, but i’m not going to be expecting it to be as good as gilmore girls.

i also agree with robinepowell, I WANT A GILMORE GIRLS MOVIE!

    • MDEP

I think that was Ausiello (wishfully) stating it was “Gilmore Girls meets Little House on the Prairie!” not the network… but its still early, so who knows?

  • robinepowell

Instead of trying to another show with A.S.P., why not greenlight an actuall Gilmore Girls movie? That’s what we the fans want. ;)

    • Steph

      Speak for yourself…

    • Craig

Maybe Amy has nothing left under her hat to make a GG movie the fans want? Wasn’t she talking about re-writing the final season? Now I hate S7 as much as the next guy but you can’t re-write something like that.

  • Paul

Ausiello, pretty please are you hearing anything about One Tree Hill being cancelled?

  • Brooke

What about the show that ASP was shopping to HBO about three-four daughters and their literary lion of a mother in New York? Is there any news/development on that?

    • Vicki

Yeah, what’s the haps on that?

      • laurielisten

the HBO show? I was trying to find out about that too? Last I heard about it was in 2009. Is that a no-go does Mike know?

  • DW

Isn’t ASP doing an HBO show? Is she going to do two shows at once?

  • Jon

Does the new LFN follow Joel Surnow’s LFN cannon or reboot from the film?

Also anyone else notice how much 24′s NY CTU looks strikingly similar to LFN’s section one with ‘perch’ included.

  • Cori

LOVED Le Femme Nikita…don’t know how I feel about a “remake.” How many times can you rehash that?

    • Bernice

OMG I know. I love Nikita. They need to stop trying to reboot things that are just fine the way they are.

  • Emily

Nikita kinda sounds like the new Bionic Woman – without the bionics. Hard to say how it will do. We all no what happened with the Bionic Woman.

  • M

Am I the only one who remembers the horror that was The Return of Jezebel James? Actually, I probably am.

    • M

Your fellow M remembers. Dianne Wiest couldn’t even save that show.

      • Flyer

SCOTT COHEN couldn’t even save that show. THAT’S saying something!

    • Allan

That was truly one of the worst shows every aired.

  • Jason

These sound much better than the previous pilots ordered by the network.

  • Nico

i LOVED la femme nikita. but i’m not too sure about a remake. as for the “gilmore-girls-meets-horse-farm”…doesn’t really grab my interest.

    • april-ann

      It sounds incredibly boring.

  • Mary Q. Contrary

No new Nikita. It was an outdated show when it was on, and I realize that there was a movie, but it really wasn’t any good, either. Heck yes on the Wyoming project. Love Amy, love Wyoming, love untitled projects!

    • m.

Outdated?! It was “Alias” mixed with “24″ before “24″ and “Alias” (actually some of the people from “Nikita” are the creators of “24″). Original “Nikita” (not the American remake, but the french one) is a classic made by Luc Besson.

  • Nice

I LOVED GG, but I’d rather not see a Gilmore Girls meet the House on the Prarie…that doesn’t sound good at all.

As for the HBO show, that sounds like a winner.

  • Drashee

set on a HORSE farm? oh dear god, i hate horses. as long as it’s not going to be a “McLeod’s Daughters” or that other show of Amy’s…

    • elizs

EXACTLY what I thought. Horse farm family soap = McLeod’s Daughters.

      • heather

        sheep not horses

    • Craig

LOL yes it’s been done before!

      • James

I was thinking something different like, ABC Family’s “Wildfire”

  • Kristen

I love ASP dearly, but if this is anything like “The Return of Jezebel James” I will seriously scream. WTH was that?!
