Breaking: NBC renews 'Parks and Recreation'

I’m thrilled to report that NBC has renewed Parks and Recreation for a third season. According to The Wrap, the show had certain “production timing issues” that made the early pickup necessary. Yeah, I don’t know what that means either. I also don’t care. I’m just happy TV’s most-improved comedy is coming back! Who’s with me?!

I”M SOOOOO HAPPY! One of my favorite comedies right now. (Behind Glee and Modern Family)

    • Stephanie Tanner

The only reason to watch the show is Azziz Ansari – that dude is hilarious.

      • Moe

        You got that right!

      • quispy

Nick Offerman as ‘Ron Swanson’ is pretty dope, too.

      • runnersmatch

        He is funny

  • dranauro

This is easily the best decision NBC has made in awhile.

  • Lauren

… now if they renew Community I will be doubly happy.

    • Luis

I agree. If Parks and Rec got renewed, I couldn’t be surprised if Community also gets picked up for a second season.

    • Dave

P&R has lower ratings than Community, so Community will probably be renewed too.

Unfortunately, Parks & Rec is also PRODUCED by NBC Universal, whereas Community is not.

I *hope* that NBC doesn’t hold that against Community, because while I really like Parks & Rec (and am glad it’s got a 3rd season), I absolutely LOVE Community!

    • underfor5

      Agreed! Love both shows.

    • Paige

Same here. It would be a shame if they didn’t.

  • Andrew

Finally NBC does something right for a change!!!

  • Carrie

Finally, a good decision by NBC! This show is so much better in its second season- it’s currently tied with Modern Family as my favorite comedy!

  • Tiz

This is excellent news. Anything to keep both Amy Poehler and Tina Fey on my Thursday night TV!

  • Ramo

Great news! P & R has been so great this season. Easily one of the best sitcoms on TV, and this is an especially strong year for comedies. I look forward to it so much more than the fading The Office. I hope it finds a wider audience because it so deserves it.

  • graeme

It’s a solid show, but just shows you how desperate NBC is for quality shows. Its ratings are absolutely awful.

    • Ryan

You’re absolutely right. But at the same time, what does it say when quality shows can hardly pull in decent ratings? And then you look at the shows that do wonderfully and, ugh… I just want to pull my hair out!

      • Emma

You have a point. We can’t always blame the networks. What about our fellow viewers watching Two and Half Men?

  • Dave

Yes!! So happy about this. Parks and Recreation has been hilarious this year, and more consistent than all of NBC’s other comedies. I was worried about it though, since it had the lowest ratings of the four comedies. But I’m at ease now. Glad to hear about the renewal so early. The one thing I really love about NBC is that, more than any of the other major networks, they gives their low-rated critical hits a chance and they really throw a lot of support behind them. Kudos to NBC for that.

  • Vivian

    YES! :D I love this show. It’s super-underrated.

  • Buzz

    worthy of viewing****

  • pop

maybe amy is pregnant again? i’d love for her and will arnett to have another baby who will sure be hilarious

    • Zoe

Either that or she is doing a movie. Maybe the movie would have been scheduled to be filmed in the late summer or fall, so she needed to know if the show was renewed or not. Either way, YAY! Parks and Rec has become one of my favorites this year!

    • laura

That was my first though too. The dress she wore to the Globes was very flowy… made me think she might be with child.

    • downtown diva

Yeah, my first thought when I read “production timing issues” was that Amy might be pregnant again. If that’s the case, I wonder whether Leslie will become pregnant, too. Definitely glad this show was picked up for another season!

  • Me

I watched the first season of the show, and was mostly underwhelmed. I haven’t been impressed with Community, either. In fact, the wife and I no longer bother to watch NBC on Thursdays until The Office and 30 Rock come on…

    • Dave

Pretty much everyone was underwhelmed and let-down by season 1 of Parks and Rec. Give it another chance. It has greatly improved. For the most part, I think it has been better than The Office this year.

      • tami

I agree, Dave. I LOVE The Office- it’s theme is my ringtone, we own every season on DVD, and I have seen every episode multiple times, including the new season.

That said… almost every week, when I sit down with my husband to watch The Office and P&R during the weekend from our DVR (I watch them Thursday night but his job precludes him from doing so) we agree that P&R was just funnier, more fresh and raw and honest.

I adore The Office, but it’s kind of pigeonholed a lot of the characters into unfunny predictability, whereas P&R can still pull the rug out from under you in a hilarious way.

    • Amanda

I was also unimpressed with the first season, and didn’t start watching the new season until about a month ago, when enough media outlets started talking about how much better the show was that I decided to give it another shot. I started watching from the beginning of season 2 on Hulu and they were right. It’s finally living up to the quality of the cast.

    • Zoe

Oh Me–try it again! If you love the Office, you should enjoy Parks and Rec. Stylistically, they are very similar. I agree the first season was downright boring at times, but this year is a complete turnaround–much like the Office between S1 and S2. I think these writers just take time to find their footing.

    • elena

Second everyone else’s statements. Not sure what they did, but P&R season 2 is a whole new animal. Check out “Practice Date,” “Greg Pitkis,” and even the season 2 opener, “Pawnee Zoo” to see how much it’s changed.

      • Liz

Pawnee Zoo was one of the best eps of this show. I also really enjoyed Greg Pitkis. I think P & R is better than The Office.

      • tuna tuna tuna

i also reccommend the stakeout or ron and tammy. the show keeps getting better and better, i am thrilled it has been renewed.

    • XK

I actually still don’t like P&R in season two, though I’ve given it a few chances, (and it IS better than the horrific first season).

I love Community though, (as does my wife), so it seems our tastes differ, regardless. :)

  • couchgrouch

    great news…fantastic show.

  • Lala

YAY! Great show, so much better this season! I hope they pick up Community too…
