'Jersey Shore' back for a second season on MTV

MTV announced late Friday that it has ordered a second season of Jersey Shore, its controversial yet wildly successful reality show about a group of youths who rent a beach house. The network ordered 12 more episodes that will begin airing this summer. The plan is to follow season 1′s Pauly D, Mike, Snooki, Jenni, Sammi, Ronnie, and Vinny as they “escape the cold northeast and find themselves in a new destination,” according to a network statement.

“Our audience has fallen in love with Jersey Shore and its amazing cast who have really grown together as a family,” said Tony DiSanto, MTV’s president of programming, in a statement. “That bond gives the show its heart, and we’re thrilled to reunite these friends.”

Shore was the No. 1 original cable series in January among persons 12-34. The season finale on Jan. 21 attracted an impressive 4.8 rating in the key demo — a 30 percent jump over the previous series high. MTV plans to air the complete first season before the Super Bowl kickoff on Feb. 7, beginning at 9 a.m. The entire season — including some uncensored moments — is also available for pre-order online.

I’m still cleaning the grime from the first season off of my TV screen, but I’ll EXCITEDLY buy some more cleaner!!!!!

      • husbandmeet

So happy going to watch this again!

  • Amar

WHAT!! I love Jersey Shore… but take out the Jersey, and it’s just not as fun anymore. This show will be a one season wonder (albeit a guilty pleasure).

  • G

I think they should put them in a house in Gatlingburg, TN. How much fun would that be!!! Redneck meet Guido…

    • Matt

Gatlinburg isn’t that big of a hick town. There’s a fairly big population of Germans there too. Plus I’d rather them not be within two states of me.

    • t3hdow

Hell, TN isn’t as stereotypically redneck heavy as G makes it seem, especially middle TN. There’s Clarksville, which is filled with military veterans from all over the US, there’s Nashville, which holds a nice mix of ethnic groups (and contrary to popular belief, not everyone listens to country), and then there’s Memphis (no explanation there). Maybe in the more rural areas, you get the redneck stereotype, but TN’s not as heavily populated with them like some people think it is.

      TOTALLY love this idea! LOL!

Sooo ready for second season…Fist pumpin time!!!

  • mishka

Let us fist pumping like champs!

“it’s controversial”? or “its controversial” ???

  • Dedi

In this instance, “it’s” actually is correct. “It” refers to the MTV network and the ‘s makes it possessive– the controversial show belonging to this network…

    • Jaime

Actually that’s wrong. “It’s” is not a sign of possession but rather a conjunction.

    • engman

It’s is correct; it is called a contraction, for ‘it is’. Look it up.

      • engman

sorry; didn’t read the usage, its is correct in this case, not a contraction…my bad.

      • crispy

UM…in the EW article, the use of “its” is correct. Dedi’s assertion that in this instance “it’s” would be correct, is incorrect. >>>>>>>>
“a second season of Jersey Shore, its controversial yet wildly successful reality show about a group of youths who rent a beach house. ” This is the way EW typed it, and it’s correct. “Its” refers to the show belonging to MTV, and that relationship is what makes JERSEY SHORE MTV’s property (ITS PROPERTY as opposed to IT’S PROPERTY which would be a contracted version of IT IS PROPERTY, which wouldn’t make sense)

      • Andrea

…they probably fixed it after seeing mishka’s comment, crispy.

      • jb

        yo yo yo.

what up wid all of dis grammar and shiz-net? we’s got some serious partyin’ to do and we’s got a serious “situation” happenin’. know what i’m sayin’? yo yo yo.

    • AcaseofGeo

My partner is an English professor who says that the “ITS” should NEVER be typed in a “contraction” form, i.e. never use the apostrophe. However, it is common to use it both ways.

      • yuck

        Ick!

  • jan

Jaime and Miska are correct. The author use of “it’s” is wrong. It should be “its”.

  • Jerry

More MTV garbage to fill the airwaves…

  • Patricia

    it’s – it is
    should be its

  • blinktx69

Its offical, I’m no longer watching anything on MTV ever again

    • Danny

well then how will you watch the second season of the Jersey Shore? Stream online?

    • alex

      no… “It’s official”… not “Its official”. haha.

  • Matt2

I’m glad they’re getting the kids away from the Jersey Shore this summer. That place will be a tourist’s nightmare now that these kids have put their unique spotlight on it. They would not have been able to move around much had they gone back to the same location. Mobs would have constantly been in their grill. I imagine filming at a beach setting will be a bit more difficult this time around given their huge popularity. MTV might have to go with some locale outside the USA; perhaps Cancun.

  • Bobby

Why don’t I just grab a chair and head to the nearest trailer park and watch the same thing.Nothing but a bunch of skanks and wannabe thugs.Very, very bad TV.

  • terry

Such a terrible show. And why is EW promoting it. For shows in the past that they didn’t care for(mainly certain shows on CBS that they felt was unhip) there was nary a mention. So why don’t you show some class and ignore crap like this.

    • good situation

Thanks terry, I had no idea that reporting and promoting were the same thing. Also, thanks for showing me that question marks are optional. Can’t believe I got so far in life without realizing this.

  • jb

Well, this definitely hampers my ability to watch “Masterpiece Theatre.”

Over/under on eventual spin-offs for cast members is 3. Anyone? Anyone?

    • ron

season 3 in my opinion will be only pauly d and mike the situation…I would say they branch off, start their own show called “GTL”
