Pilot Intel: 'Grey's' boss snags 'Trace' alum

Without a Trace grad Enrique Murciano has joined the cast of the Shonda Rhimes-produced ABC pilot Off the Map, sources confirm.

Map centers around a team of medical professionals who flee the U.S. to work at a clinic on a tropical island.

Also joining the drama’s ensemble is Martin Henderson (inset). The New Zealand-born actor is a favorite of Rhimes’, having also starred in her ill-fated ABC pilot about news correspondents, Inside the Box.

Would love to see more diversity in casting

    • Ceballos

Ok, there are a lot of things about Shonda Rhimes-produced shows you can criticize (and I have), but diversity in casting is simply one of them.

I’d expect the rest of this cast to eventually follow suit.

      • Ceballos

Also, I believe Murciano is Cuban so that’s obviously a step in the right direction.

(I’m assuming you were talking about the show casting actors from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. If not, just ignore what I said.)

      • Joe Jonas

“…but diversity in casting is simply NOT* one of them.”

(Will we ever be able to edit our own posts. Ugh!)

    • Megan

Yeah…..I’m sort of confused with this comment. You mean ethnically? How is casting a Cuban-American not diverse????

  • erinmariexo

another Rhimes project based around doctors, how shocking!

    • David

      She’s so diverse isn’t she?

  • Sherry

AWESOME! I loved Enrique in Without a Trace, he always seemed like an under used actor there though. I’m happy he’ll be back on tv!!

  • Amar

so the blind item is about Grey’s Anatomy….

    • BlatantURLPimpingMustDie

Another reading comprehension casualty. Shonda is just a producer on this “Map” show, it’s actually created by someone else. Reporters just like using Shonda’s name to draw in the eyeballs.

  • J

    This show sounds AWFUL.

  • pauch

Does anyone remember when he was on MTV’s Spyder Games??

  • Sophie

It’s being produced by Shonda’s production company but it was NOT created by Shonda.

  • Jenny

I think this is exciting. So happy to see that EM is headed back to my TV screen.

  • jmag

Does anyone remember that show years ago where prospective doctors went to medical school in a tropical island–i think it was Jamaica. I remember because it was my first introduction to Red Stripe and Jerk Chicken. Rimes’ new project sounds a lot like that.

    • swthompson

      Going to Extremes?

  • Jo

AWesome news!!!! I love Enrique Murciano!!!

  • KG

I LOVE Enrique Murciano. I am so happy that he is back on tv. I have missed him since “Without a Trace.”

  • Chris

Great. another project for Shonda. Grey’s has gotten worse since Private Practice launched.

  • Sean John

I was once using an Apple computer and no matter what I did there was no way I could enumerate the pages as in 1, 2, 3, 4. Beware the New World Order and machines! Diehard is the name of the ATM machine. Diebold.

    • Matthew

em wtf does that have to do with Enrique Murciano on a new tv show? ^o)

  • Tiffany

This just sounds like Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice on a tropical island. It’ll be the same old love triangles and dramatic medical events.

    • Tego Livi

It doesn’t have to be, but it certainly could be.

  • Kvivik

I’m much more excited about seeing Martin Henderson than Enrique.
But why are they fleeing the US? That is the part that confuses me.

    • castiella

I’m assuming it’s because they’ve already slept with everyone in the US. (They’ll soon be joined by Drs. Alex Karev, Addison Montgomery, and Mark Sloan, who are clearly in the same predicament.)

    • michele

I’m also more excited to see Martin Henderson as well. Wasn’t he allegedly supposed to be in the TV version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith that never happened? I remember him from Bride & Prejudice…
