Pilot Intel: 'FNL' all-star Zach Gilford recruited for ABC's 'Matadors'

Friday Night Lights MVP Zach Gilford has joined the cast of ABC’s hour-long drama pilot Matadors, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The prospective series revolves around two rival Chicago-based families, one in the DA’s office and another in a high-powered law firm.

Gilford, who is poised to make what could be (SPOILER ALERT) his final FNL appearance in next Wednesday’s Season 4 finale, is playing Alex Galloway, the Romeo of a modern-day Romeo & Juliet story. No word on who’ll play his Juliet, but here’s a thought: How about Autumn Reeser? Just putting that out there.

Yeah! My favorite FNL’er won’t be fading off into the distance. Here’s hoping ‘Matadors’ is picked up. :-D

  • kat

i LOVE Autumn Reeser! I think they’d be GREAT together!

    • Erin

Autumn Reeser’s in this? Damn I’ve always found her annoying.

I guess it was unlikely I was going to watch it in the first place anyway. Too many good shows these days. This sounds like a just mediocre version of what has appeared before.

      • castiella

I don’t think Ausiello’s saying she’s in it, just that he thinks she should be.

I’d rather see Genevieve Cortese or the recently unemployed America Farrera.

      • castiella

I spelled that wrong, didn’t I? It looks wrong.

      • Erin

Ah I read it wrong, thanks castiella. Now I may check it out.

Ofcourse it was just an Aus-suggestion, I had nearly forgotten about his freaky love for ‘Taylor Townsend’.

  • dryedmangoez

Aww, I hoped the FNL cast would stay in the NBC Universal family but hey, a good role is a good role (I hope!)

    • dd

Why would anyone care what media conglomerate an actor “stayed” in??

      • castiella

Unless mangoez works for NBC Universal, I have no idea.

  • brynna

Another modern R&J? Didn’t Fox do that several years ago? Not than I’m not happy to see Zach coming to the tv world post FNL. Love him.

    • Robert

Yes, it was called “Skin”, but the 2 “families” were the DA and a porn producer. The most memorable part of it? Ron Silver screaming, “His father is the district attorney!” (It was his daughter and the DA’s son).

  • pop

    this makes me happy.

  • Briana

I’ll be re-arranging my DVR schedule accordingly.

  • t.t

    how bout alexis bledel
their chemistry was so great in post-grad
although I doubt that’ll happen since Alexis is focusing on her film career

    • castiella

Well, her film career doesn’t seem to be working out too well, so maybe she’d go for it. They did have great chemistry.

  • Mary Q. Contrary

I love Zach Gilford. I think he’s incredibly talented, and I know it was for the better, but I was so sad to see Saracen go…… I can say for sure that I will at least watch the pilot of ANY show he deems worthy of his presence. So hopefully it’s good, and then I can watch him each week again. I miss the little booger.

  • The Daw

Good for someone else catching the fact that this is exactly “Skin,” which was the most hyped FOX pilot in years and lasted like three episodes.

  • Elle

Alexis Bledel their chemistry saved “Post Grad” plus I need her back on TV!I even tuned into ER just to see her.

  • spike

Wow, a show about lawyers. THAT never happens

  • Kati

    Autumn Reeser? Yawn.

  • K

I love him I can’t wait for Season 4 to air in my area!

  • Jennifer

    NOOO AUTUMN REESER!?

I think she’s one of the most irritating actresses around… what about Emmy Rossum? They were good together in Dare? Although i’m not sure she could do TV…

    • Erin

I’m so glad others find Autumn irritating. She was lauded in the O.C days but IMO she was merely an inferior version of Reese Witherspoon.

    • lorna

thats funny jennifer, like autumn, but i cant STAND emmy rossum. and i thought zach was on vampire diaries…?

      • Lindsey

There is a Zach on Vampire Diaries, but his name is Zach Roerhig.

  • Treasure Trail

Wow, talk about a feminine looking boy! Zach looks like he transitioned from female to male.

    • castiella

Have you actually seen him in anything other than a bad EW picture? Because he’s all dude, believe me!

    • Tego Livi

That football field night lighting emphasizes the makeup.
