Scoop: 'Chuck' enlists Christopher Lloyd for future mission

Tags: , News

It’s Doc Brown to the rescue!

Chuck has tapped Back to the Future‘s mad scientist, Christopher Lloyd, to play a therapist who Chuck turns to when the pressures of the spy biz become too much for him to bear.

Exec producer Josh Schwartz, who broke the casting news via Twitter, noted that Back to the Future has been “a huge influence” on Chuck.

Lloyd will appear in this season’s 16th episode, which is slated to air in April or May.

Programming note: Tonight brings Chuck‘s last original episode until after the Olympics, so enjoy every second of it!

Christopher Lloyd as a therapist? Sounds like it’s going to be great fun.

    - Sweet.

    • James

Christopher Lloyd is one of my favorite actors…I might actually watch Chuck to see this.

  • evelyn27

Now that is just epic. I freakin’ love Chuck.

  • Tommy

Completely awesome! Is Chuck going off the air due to the olympics?

    • GimplyGump ☺

      Unfortunately, yes. D@man Olympians. :/

  • Goldie

Would be funny/cool if the character’s name was Dr. Brown.

    • Ann

or Prof. Plum, since in Clue, he actually was a psychiatrist.

      • Rebecca

        Or Reverend Jim.

        LOL

  • Gambs

Do we have a title for the Ep yet? Chuck vs. The Therapist, maybe?

The show has paid homage to the movie before (Chuck vs. the DeLorean, for example.)

    • Gambs

I got my answer. The ep is titled “Chuck vs. The Tooth.” Lloyd’s character will be named Dr. Leo Dreyfuss. He’s supposed to be deadpanned and sour, which is something Christopher Lloyd could pull off rather easily.

      • Trevor

If I’m not mistaken, Richard Dreyfuss’ character in What about Bob? was named Leo. *chuckles*

Chuck’s progress is slow but it ctneinuos.I hear words and phrases from him that were used by him before the injury.I can’t really appreciate the extent of the injury the clot caused, but he shouldn’t have survived. The human spirit is stronger than ANYTHING on the wonderful planet. He will make a full recovery!!

  • OldDarth

    Great Scott!

    • James

Yeah I know, this is heavy.

  • Jen E.

    Love it!

  • joe

James Ignatowski as therapist! Love it!

Lloyd has been the best “mad scientist” in hollywood for 3 decades. Yet another fantastic guest star for Chuck!

  • jj

I love how some of the guest appearances have referenced their more famouse roles. I especially loved it when Big Mike’s cousin was the guy from Die Hard (Chuck vs. Santa Clause) and he even used some of the same lines (just to name one instance). It’s the little things like that that keep me laughing and impatiently waiting for each and every episode.

  • mary

Love it! Chuck has always the best guest-stars! :D

  • Nicotine

It really ticks me off that the Olympics force all these television shows into hiatus. And it’s not usually just on the network broadcasting the Olympics, either.

  • Joe

    “I was fro-zen to-day!”

    FTW

  • alalia

I agree, but from a business standpoint it makes more sense for the other networks not to burn off new episodes while the Olympics are running. I do wonder what it does to sweeps, since February is typically a sweeps month.

  • May

Another great guest star! Can’t wait to see Doc Brown on Chuck!
