Pilot Intel: 'Eli Stone' alum joins 'Open Books'

Ex-Eli Stone actress Laura Benanti has snagged the lead in the CBS comedy pilot Open Books, sources confirm. From Will & Grace scribe Gail Lerner, Open Books revolves around a book editor (Benanti) and her circle of friends. Benanti, a veteran of Broadway, earned a 2008 Tony Award for Gypsy.

For anyone else interested, she played Beth Keller, the woman from the pilot and a couple other episodes with the autistic son who sued the vaccine company. I’m much more interested in one of my favorite Eli Stone vets, Jason George, who played Keith Bennet and is now on Grey’s Anatomy.

Thank you. I was trying to remember where I knew him from.

Jason George was also on Eastwick…sadly missed

I have SO been waiting for Jason George to headline a show. Handsome man, good actor.

I just want Loretta Devine and Julie Gonzalo to be regulars on a show again! :(

I just wish Eli Stone would come back again. What a fantastic (and still sorely missed) show…

I bet this isn’t picked up. Sounds horrendous.

The plot seems like a fail, but Laura Benanti is kickass, so it’s all good.

I’ve said this before, but remember Cougar Town? It seemed like it was going to be a hot mess and it turned into one of the best new shows of the season. I’ve learned not to judge things based on premise.

Good point. I’m hoping that’s the case here, because she’s fantastic.

Sounds awful and is it not similar to old Ellen show?

I totally heart Laura Benanti, but I kind of don’t want this to be successful, so she can keep being awesome on Broadway.

Does anyone know if this will shoot in New York?
