Pilot intel: Keri Russell is a wanted woman

Dear Sally: I’ve got good news and bad news. First, the good news: I’m hearing that Keri Russell has been on the receiving end of multiple pilot offers in recent weeks. That’s right, my BFF might be coming back to TV! Now, the bad news: So far she’s not biting. (At least it’s bad news for those of us who have been missing our weekly Keri fix since Felicity went off the air — gulp — eight years ago.) “She’s focusing on her film career right now,” says a source close to the Golden Globe-winning actress. “But if the right project came along she would consider it. It all comes down to the material.” Fingers crossed some really impossible-to-resist material comes her way. I’ll keep you posted. Oh, and have you given any thought to that cell phone idea I had? This microcassette thing is so 1998. Later, Mike

I’ve wanted Keri for a long time, too.

  • marc

why does she want to take bit parts in films not worthy of her hwne she can be a leading lady on Tv and the material is far superior

    • PhantomRat

Because bit parts in bad movies pay as much or more as leading roles in small-net, high quality TV shows and she works for a much shorter period giving her a lot more free time to spend with her son. Her decision makes perfect sense to me, but I still wish she’d think of the rest of us and come back to television for our sake.

A ridiculous no. of new shows also get cancelled so it’s also a risky prospect. Once you fail on television I imagine the transition back to movies, for good parts, is tough.

  • ffnll

this would make my LIFE!! okay, so that is a bit dramatic… but it certainly would take it up a few notches! i still to this day introduce new friends to felicity and they ALL fall in love with the show. . . and ben :)

  • Jane

Aww, I totally grew up with Felicity. I’d love to see her back on tv!

  • Nathan

Don’t blame her for sticking to movies, TV is for actors who have run out of options and she isn’t there yet.

    • maiv

no offense to her, but it’s not like she’s gotten too many mainstream accolades for her film career either. I think tv may do her some good for a bit of revival (like Patrick Dempsey, who had small bits on big movies until he landed Grey’s; he’s now considered A-list)

      • Becki

Uh, no way Patrick Dempsey is A-List

    • Mike

You’re about 15 years too late for that pronouncement, Nathan. Although top-line film work is still the most lucrative, with the most free time, a high-profile TV show is a very good get these days and, if it goes to syndication, is enormously profitable. Plenty of actors balance film and TV work, and anybody who isn’t absolutely A-list in film would probably look at the right TV project. I would say the demanding hours are probably the only reason even A-listers don’t go for it.

    • Fatima

As Mike said, that’s a wildly out of date argument. I’d say the final nail in the coffin came when Glenn Close took a lead role on a cable series.

  • kit

8 years ago!?!? Is that really right?!? Holy sh*t, I am old. She and Ben would be doctors and just finishing their residencies by now — right?

  • Dc

Sadly there are not many roles in films as good as “Waitress” she may be waiting a long time.

  • Katie

Maybe I haven’t done enough IMDB research, but the movies sticking out in my mind that she has done since Felicity are August Rush and Extraordinary Measures- two big steaming piles. I love her and think she has such a great quality but does not have a knack for picking scripts. Come back to TV, Keri! Or get a new manager.

    • Fatima

You probably didn’t see Waitress then.

      • Isolde

Waitress was awesome! two of my favorites, Keri and Nathan Fillion. It can’t get much better than that!

      • Katie

I did, and I loved it. I am ashamed of myself for forgetting!! Touche. Too bad two terrible films were made more recently.

  • jax

Would LOVE to see Keri Russell in another series! Felicity remains one of my fave TV shows of all time. I have all four seasons on DVD. I’m still bummed she chose Noel over Ben. Bad choice.

    • Mary Q. Contrary

She didn’t. She tried to go back to Ben. We’ll never know if she actually made it………

      • shonna

what??? she ended up with ben! noel married zoe. ben and felicity were at the wedding together!

  • Brooke

Get her in on that show with Minka Kelly!

  • rory

She was brilliant in Waitress, one of my favourite films. It’s a shame more films with strong parts for women aren’t being produced.

    • Kurt

They’re being produced, but given to people like Anne Hathaway. While I love Hathaway, it would be nice if the studios to give Keri Russell a shot at a mainstream role. Her bit part on MI3 was a waste.

  • Mary Q. Contrary

Oh, Aus, I miss her just as bad as you, and for the same reasons. Ben will forever be my #1 crush! Anyway, I hope she does find some amazing pilot floating her way. I would absolutely love to get a weekly Keri Russell fix again. You can only watch Honey, I Blew Up The Baby so many times……

  • Kurt

I’m sorry but Bedtime Stores and Extraordinary Measures were not films worthy of her talents. She should go back to TV. I miss seeing her beautiful face weekly.

  • xjeffie33x

i’d love to see Keri back on the small screen but it has to be the perfect role for her, that will challenge her and prove she’s still relevant. her being in another JJ Abram show would be even better haha especially if it’s a Sci-Fi/Action drama. i thought she did wonders in what little she was given in MI 3

    • kellyinco

I was a fan sinse she was a tiny dancer in Colorado.

  • Jen

good for Keri! I’ve been a fan of hers since Mickey Mouse Club
