David Krumholtz’ next gig will keep him in the numbers game.
The actor has been cast as the lead in Fox’s Untitled Ron Howard IRS pilot, sources confirm to me exclusively. The multi-camera workplace comedy, penned by Office writer-director Brent Forrester, is set at an Internal Revenue Service district office. Howard is exec producing with Imagine’s Brian Grazer and David Nevins.
For Krumholtz, the project is in second position to Numb3rs, which is not expected back next season.
In other pilot news, upcoming House guest David Strathairn has landed the lead in the ABC drama pilot Matadors, co-starring Friday Night Lights‘ Zach Gilford.

I had no idea that Numb3rs was even on tv still. but i don’t watch much tv and i never watched the show, so that might be why. but ron howard makes awesome tv shows(arrested development and soon to be awesome Parenthood!!!)
but he is very adorable!!!!
Ugh, we don’t need yet ANOTHER Office-like show. Hollywood has too much of a mob-mentality approach. Now every movie is going to be made in 3-D as well and will be gritty and get a reboot every 2 yrs. As for Numbers, it can be good, just get rid of Larry permanently – his character is so depressing and a waste of space. And PLEASE let David and Colby finally reveal their true feelings for each other.
I was so hoping that Numb3rs would get a seventh season.
This makes me sad, but I’ll watch the show for David.
Me too! I hope he’s going to be in the next Harold and Kumar film as well. He’s hilarious.
rebecca, you can’t assume that Parenthood is an awesome show…one, you are not a psychic and two, Ron Howard is not infallible…
especially since they had to recast lead Maura Tierney …with Lauren Graham…who has the chops to carry her role , but still, often a recast- for any reason doesn’t bode well….tho there are many exceptions…
I wish them well …but won’t be watching
The only reason they re-cast Maura’s part was because she’s battling breast cancer.
David Strathairn and Zach Gilford in the same show? I’m definitely watching this show now.
Hey Ausiello, no news is good news re NUMB3RS! It won’t be announced until May! This fan’s still hoping for it to come back!
If it’s on FOX it’s doomed.
Why does a show about the IRS just sound not that interesting?
I dont know about that. I work at the IRS, and watching me tell people that their pensions are taxable would be pretty riveting.
NO NO NO NO! Is CBS stupid?! Numb3rs BEATS Ghost Whisperer! It BEATS Medium! I love that show! Don’t cancel it!
I think most people realize Numb3rs is circling the drain. I’ve liked it a lot in the past, but it hasn’t really evolved like I hoped it would. In years past, we’d be used to shows lasting 6 or 7 seasons then ending gracefully, but nowadays the networks drag shows out until they are running on fumes.
NUMB3RS remains an excellent show;however CBS never showcases it like NCIS,etc. They should move it to a better time slot,THEN decide on it’s fate.It remains a very entertaining show w/ great actors!! Give NUMB3RS a 7TH season!!!
I agree, cindy. The show has stayed consistently good, but never gotten the attention it deserves.
This news makes me sad. I always watch Numb3rs.
Is this the blind item from your earlier post??
I thought the blind item was about an actress?
I just hope that the actress who plays Amita finds a good role on another show and that Ausiello lets us know when she does.
She was excellent on the OC ..I’m sure she’ll land another nice gig…
It was previously announced this was numbers last year
F Y I ; no one at CBS has given any indication that this is Numbers’ final year. The speculation started when the show was cut back several episodes, to allow for ‘new projects’ to have a place to air before the season ran out. Interestingly, when anyone tries to pressure CBS about its Friday night lineup, there’s a lot of ifs and buts and maybes that start floating in the air.
Nevertheless, the betting is the shown will be not be renewed for another season.
