'Ellen' stays on NBC-owned stations for three more seasons

Warner Bros. Domestic TV announced today that it closed new deals to keep The Ellen DeGeneres Show on NBC-owned-and-operated stations through 2014. Under terms of the new deal, the daytime yakker will continue to air on the Peacock’s 10 stations, including WNBC in New York, KNBC in Los Angeles, and WMAQ in Chicago, through DeGeneres’ 11th season on the air.

The deal prevents the ABC-owned stations from attempting to steal DeGeneres away as a replacement for Oprah Winfrey once the latter host goes off the air in September 2011. DeGeneres’ previous deal was set to expire at the same time as Winfrey’s, so there was some thought that Warner Bros. could have incited a bidding war between NBC and ABC. Even Winfrey appears to see DeGeneres as potential heir apparent; the 55-year-old Winfrey gave Degeneres an early heads up about her plans to leave daytime and both hosts served as guests on each other’s shows (DeGeneres even appeared alongside Winfrey on a cover of O Magazine late last year).

of course they will, no doubt ellen got a massive pay increase now that she’s on idol

      this is good news

  • JPX

How depressing. Nothing says “the masses are asses” more than the show Ellen’s popularity. Have any of you tried to watch a single episode of this vapid, saccharine tripe? I’ll never understand Ellen’s appeal. She’s not the least bit funny and she copied her entire stammering act from Bob Newhart. I feel so embarrassed for her when she “dances”, and why does she insist on dressing like a man?

    • Andrew

Wow, JPX, because she’s her own person and can do as she pleases.

    • Richard

Wow. Did she jilt you in high school or something?

    • Ian

      dork

    • Jorge

“…insist on dressing like a man” ? Wow, I’m totally offended by that. I didn’t know pants and vests came with a Y-chromosome requirement. Even if the show isn’t to your taste, there’s no reason to denigrate Ellen or her choice to enjoy dancing.

she dresses like a man, because she is the butch in her lesbian relationship

      • Bobtruth

Get over it Hor-hay. Dave nailed it on the head. She’s a talentless hack, if she wasn’t a lesbian, she wouldn’t have a show. People watch her for the novelty of a lesbian so out in the mainstream. She has no class and should NOT be on television.

This same guy writes a near “word-for-word” version of this same thing on almost every story that appears about Ellen. Clearly, just a little man full of hatred with nothing better to do.

  • Isaac

    Sweet! I love Ellen!

    • Bobtruth

      Idiot!

  • rey

i thought oprah hand picked rachel ray to take over.

  • Farris Flagg

Way to go NBC!!!!! They have learned their lesson after the Leno/Conan mess. The best “Daytime Talk Show” on the air!!!!

    • Bobtruth

Sniffing glue again I see. I guess The (Liberal) View is the second best, right?

  • Patrick

Does this include CBS affiliates? That’s what she’s on in KC. Will her show still be shown there??

    • Bobtruth

      Let’s hope not!

  • Bobtruth

Ugh, how depressing, four more years of that crap. Kind like if Obama got re-elected . . .

  • Ed Gauthier

Promises, promises. Oprah’s going nowhere, as usual. She’s nothing but a big fat liar (literally). She’ll “leave” her show just like she got skinny, married Steadman and stopped putting herself on the cover of her vanity mag. In other words. NOT.

As for Ellen, gaybird or otherwise, she’s always been a walking sleeping pill. (yawn)
