Kathy Najimy is about to sink her teeth into a piece of Ugly Betty history.
The funny lady has been tapped to play the orthodontist tasked with removing Betty’s trademark braces, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Najimy succeeds Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Betty’s original metal specialist in season 1 (and who returned briefly last month).
Najimy will also play a pivotal role in the episode’s It’s a Wonderful Life-esque fantasy subplot. Per an Ugly insider, her character will serve as the guardian angel who shows Betty what life would have been like had she been blessed with perfect choppers.
Najimy’s episode is slated to air on March 24, three weeks before the show’s series finale.

Betty should become beautiful and show the world she had it in her all along. She should also end up alone. She is a powerful woman!
I think Betty is a beautiful character as is America Ferrara. True beauty exudes from within a person – their whole persona.
Anybody who has seen America without the braces knows that she is a very attractive woman. As I love to say, “More Hispanic Women on TV!” We have the best looking in the world. PS–Bring back Salma for the finale (just for another gorgeous Spanish Woman), and yes I am a Hispanic Male.

Betty is beautiful as she is. I don’t think that adding superficial beauty will much to her character. It is time to take the braces off, though. And I’m glad they cast Kathy Najimy. It should be a fun episode.
that’s really the ending of the mexican/columbian betty, i’m just wondering how will they beutify betty since america is not that gorgeous. also betty and her boss marry in the ending. well maybe they change the u.s version.
america ferrara is actually quite stunning when she’s not dressed up as betty. i think Betty will be ‘beautified’ just fine if that’s how they choose to end it.
I agree, America is very cute when she is not in “Betty” character. It will be great to see Betty beautiful. At the same time, I hope that when the guardian angel shows Betty what life would have been like had she been born that way, that nothing is really that different, because in the end it was always about Betty’s heart and determination, and she had it in her all along.

She has proven all along that the title is the ultimate way of subverting the stereotypes, and playing with the notion that “ugly” Betty is truly a beautiful woman, inside and out. I hope that this show truly skips the ridiculous endings of the latinamerican versions, and makes Betty a truly awesome role model, that you can have a happy ending and a fulfilling life, even if you are “ugly”
but betty isn’t truly ‘beautiful’ on the inside. She’s insufferably self-righteous and takes things way too personally. She deliberately chooses to enter the fashion industry and then criticizes it for being too superficial, she spends most of the episodes fretting about her own life and problems and then gets upset when other characters deign to be as self-righteous as she is. If I knew the character Betty Suarez in real life, I don’t think I would like her, and it’s hardly because she has braces or bad hair.
Boy Sandradee you are right on the money! I love the SHOW Ugly Betty, but Betty is my LEAST favorite character. I find her to be extremely annoying and ridiculously clueless as well. She dresses like an Oompa-Loompa on acid and then she’s angry and surprised when no one takes her seriously at her job at a FASHION magazine?!?? She’s a joke and I get a certain perverse pleasure out of every rejection and humiliation she suffers!

I am starting to think this writers “source” at Ugly Betty is his boyfriend because he has a “major spoiler” for this soon to be thankfully dead show every week.

Ok, Betty removes her braces..It’s not like I didn’t see it coming! At this point I only care to see Daniel and Betty together! And I mean really together! Not an open ending! Damn it! I’m watching all these years waiting for the Detty to happen! If only the show had a different creator/producer! Someone that would focus on the Detty from the beginning,instead of liking stupid Henry or making awful statements like they have a bro/sis relationship! SUCKS!!!
This is the thing with Ugly Betty, the writers/producers stunt cast. Not with big names but with an INSIDER’s wink! I love it! Like the time they used Ms.Williams’ ex husband as her down and dirty body guard. and last week’s drag diva who happens to be Ms Williams’ younger Brother! Fantastic! Someone please give Vanessa her EMMY already!

Why can’t Jesse Tyler Ferguson, her longtime orthodontist, remove them? Did he have a breakdown because Betty rejected him last time she saw him?
This is great news. I’m really looking forward to seeing the episode…but still heartbroken that the show is ending.
