Exclusive: Will Watros' 'House' call be extended?

Tagged:

House may soon be Cynthia Watros’ permanent home.

The once-and-future Lost star doesn’t kick off her multi-episode arc as Wilson’s first ex-wife and new girlfriend until April 19, but series creator David Shore says he’s already toying with the idea of keeping her around long-term. “We’re talking about that,” he tells me. “It depends what’s going to give us the most bang for our buck dramatically.”

With Jennifer Morrison not expected to return next season as a regular, the show will be down one female. Shore, however, insists the equation doesn’t hinge on numbers. “When good people come on and they work out, we try and make it work longer,” he insists. “It’s ultimately about the storylines.”

One telltale sign that Shore might have big plans for Watros: He made her character, Sam Carr, a doctor, partly to keep her future job prospects at Princeton Plainsboro open. But, he adds, “It wasn’t just that.”

For his part, Robert Sean Leonard can already picture his new leading lady in the cast photo. “I like how she fits into the picture with Hugh [Laurie] and Lisa [Edelstein],” he says. “Cynthia is amazing, and we’re lucky to have her.”

Watros is certainly happy to be had. “I would love to [stick around],” says the actress, a Daytime Emmy winner for her stint as Guiding Light‘s loco Nurse Annie. “To be able to call this show home would be fantastic. But you know how this business works. There are so many factors that go into whether it’s a permanent thing. I’m just enjoying what I have now and feeling very lucky.”

What do you think? Should House invite Watros to stay before someone else steals her away (I just rhymed!)? Sound off below! And then run out and pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly to get an exclusive first look of Watros’ Sam!

    Oh god!

I feel like I’m either gonna start crying or I’m gonna throw up. I hate this.

    • Chelle

      yeah.

    • Cheery

Hate it too. I worry this is seriously going to f-ck up the show’s dynamic. The show is about HOUSE with his right hand man (Wilson) and HBIC (Cuddy). I don’t want the triad to become a foursome.

How are they going to juggle another doctor’s storylines who’s not part of the team? This just seems like a really big departure and I’m worried.

    • Alix

I hate this idea. Why add someone new?? If the writing sucks then fix it, don’t think adding someone new will make it better.

    • Lisa

No thank you. As a “Guest Star” Yes. This exactly how excellent series’end up getting cancelled. I love the show. I don’t want to see this happen to “HOUSE” HOUSE is the only TV Show I watch on a regular basis and have since the beginning. It does’nt have to happen. I agree with ‘triad” notion.

  • Amanda

Oh this looks great! I’m excited to see a little bit of Wilsons past! It’s like when they brought Stacy back, there was a whole new layer of House we discovered. I’m interested to see what Wilsons past holds…

    • Anna

But please, write it better than the Luddy arc. Don´t destroy my beloved Wilson.

      • Jake

        THIS.

    • Iczorro

I love Cynthia Watros. Stoked to see how well she fits in.

  • alex

I loved her on lost and think she is going to be great on house

  • Sally

Why can’t they just bring Cameron back?! So many fans are waiting for that!!!

    • J

I’m sorry, what does this have to do with Cameron?

      • Ellen

One reason people are mentioning Cameron is because one of the excuses for getting rid of her was because the show had too many characters, and then they turn right around and add ANOTHER one. Heaven forbid they would subtract Thirteen to make room for Wilson’s ex. I’ll take Cameron back any day.

      • Jake

Ausiello MENTIONED Jennifer Morrison if you did not see that.

      • Rin

Please dont male this about Cameron again!! I’d rather have Watros because this means more storyline for Wilson, more storyline for Wilson = more screentime! Hilson Wilson rules!!!

      • bklynny

Cameron is NOT coming back to stay. Period.

    • CC

So true. I’m totally bored without Cameron, and I can’t stand Huddy.

      • m.

I wasn’t very big fan of Cameron, but would you really say that Thirteen or Taub is more interesting than Cameron?!

      • Sabs

        @ m.
        Yes, they are.

      • Amy

You’re bored without Cameron?? Wow. She was interesting at first and brought a strong moral voice to the mix, but I think she got incredibly boring and whiny at the end.

    • Jessica

I´m not waiting for Cameron back. I always wanted her out. Can´t stand her.

    • Chris

Good grief, not this again. I gotta stop reading the comments here. If I hear one more thing about Cameron I will vomit. Get. Over. It.

      • MSR

        Cameron. Now please vomit ;)

      • Beth

Cameron? I´m vomiting. Arggg. Please no more of here. Never ever. And Yay for Wilson getting some! Wilson FTW

      • bklynny

I agree. Cameron/Hameron and Chameron fans. Enough already.

    • Laurie

I don´t understand Cameron fans. TPTB don´t want her in the show anymore so what are you asking for? If you love the actress you should be happy because now she can get different jobs. She hasn´t been an important part of the show for years. Writers don´t know what to do with her character. There is nothing else to develope between House and her and viewers don´t care about storylines that don´t involve House. Why do you want her back? To have 1 or 2 scenes every 5 episodes. Because if she is back it will be just for this. She is not gonna be House´s love interest and she is not gonna be part of the team. She will be back to handle House a case every now and then, to have a fight with Chase and that´s all. She can´t grow as an actress like this. So stop crying for her and wish her luck in her future. House MD is not her home anymore.

      • Cameron

If Chase can be part of the team so can she

      • Laurie

TPTB chose to include Chase in the team again because there is a lot to explore between him and House. There is nothing left between Cameron and House. She was in love with him. He rejected her. She moved on, married Chase and got a job as the head of ER. Her relationship with Chase can be explored a little more but that´s not what viewers want to see. It would take screentime from the medical case and House himself. Of course they can create something like a friendship between House and Cameron but it wouldn´t work at this point and anyway she would get just minimal screentime.

      • Not a fannomore

HOuse was such a good show now i’m disappointed…

    • xs

Because so many of us are also NOT waiting for this!

  • Mo

I don’t even care about Watros; I’m just insanely happy to hear Cameron is “not expected” to be a regular character anymore. YES!

    • Shaila

Same here. I adore this actress. I think it´s a good move.

    • Liz

Someone didn’t like the earlier seasons, obviously. Bad choice.

      • Shaila

Actually i loved firt seasons and I always disliked Cameron.

    • Lydia

Cameron out of the picture forever??? YES. Bring it on.

      • YES!

and no more HUDDY too yes i love it totally!!!! Bring Watros on woohooo

  • Pepper

Please don’t. I’d rather have Cameron back. And that’s a big thing for me.
I think the “let’s-screw-up-a-great-show-in-every-possible-way-we-can” demon has possessed Mr Shore.
And why, oh why do casting people ALWAYS choose the woman with the most easily hateable face as the big love?

    • Chris

Some of you talk as if it’s an “either-or” proposition. Cameron is not coming back as a regular. Watros may be added as a regular. These are two completely separate facts. Unrelated. Cameron has NOTHING to do with this story. There’s nothing “screwed up” about the show. People change, situations change – without that change there IS no story. Just like real life, you have to go with it and deal.

And the only reason you and others see Watros as having a “hateable face” is because you have a sort of jealous-by-proxy thing going on. It wouldn’t matter if Wilson’s new girlfriend were a beautiful supermodel working for Doctors Without Borders in an orphanage full of cute babies – you would STILL hate her because of the Cameron thing. And that, my friend, is when you know it’s time to TURN OFF THE TV and GO OUTSIDE.

      • Pepper

It’s mentioned that the show is one female down. So if Cameron’s back, they don’t have to have this woman on for long.
And second, to me, she only has a hateable face because her face is hateable to me. I can’t really explain it and there are people I know that I just know we’ll never be friends ’cause they have unsympathetic faces. Simple as that. Don’t tell me it never happened to you.
I liked Amber and Wilson’s second wife also looked nice to me. Oh but wait, she’s not a doctor, can’t hang around. There are millions of professions out there and she has to be a doctor. I mean, what an imagination.

I started watching House because the character is interesting and shocking. If he’s gonna be a regular person, then what’s the point?

      • Mandy

        Pepper, seriously, get out more.

      • Pepper

Mandy, dear, can’t reply to you but I’ll do it anyway.
How can you, from one comment, know about my daily schedule? Amazing.
AND what else should I talk about here if not the topic? My hobbies? Politics? The economy?
Thanks for the attention but can do without it.

      • LOL

hahaha ON YOUR FACE!!! mandy boohooo

    • Amy

Huh? Not following you with the “hateable” thing… That sounds like a personal problem to me.

  • Ben

    GOOD FOR CYNTHIA!
She is pretty awesome and I hope she sticks around!

  • Liz

Be careful! She might steal your role as Cuddy’s BFF xD

    • Chris

Actually, I like that idea a lot. Poor Cuddy could really use a girlfriend to talk to. Other than Lucas, I mean. LOL

    • Fi

Ooooh I like that idea too!

  • Seriously?

    I think that’s a wonderful idea…

RSL is the most underused characters in House, and having him more is good.

Maybe it will calm down the Huddy shippers and the people Huddy Haters…

    • Seriously?

      *Huddy haters…

    • Mariel

Most underused? I feel like I’ve seen more of Wilson than I have of House himself this season.

      • Mary

oh come on, you know that’s an exaggeration. yeah, he did have his own episode and yes, he got much more screen time this season (which is great), but more than house? come on.

      • CC

the hilson fanservice has been overkill this season, i love their intereactions but i want to see more of the patients, medicine, and the rest of the cast.

      • bibian

I can´t stand hilson this year. I used to like it but 300 hilson scenes per epi is too much for my stomach.

      • LOL

I thing the only thing underused in this show is the brains of the writers…

    • Chris

I agree with you. And the Huddy haters don’t bother me at all now that we know it’ll happen eventually. They’re like yappy little dogs around our ankles. If only a swift kick would do the trick.

      • Zaphod

Wasn’t it once said that House would have a chance at being paired up with all potential (including Wilson, yes) characters before the end of the series? And wasn’t it also said that House will most likely end up alone? Sure, Huddy lovers will have their day, and just as every other ship out there, theirs will sail right over a cliff eventually. Enjoy it while you have it.

    • Zaphod

RSL is the most “underused” because he wants it that way, himself.

I respect his wishes even though I’d love to see more Wilson.

  • Already bored with Dr Sam Carr

Well my username sayes it all!!!!!

    • LOL

lol we can call her dr. Scarr idk why?

  • suds

I Dont mind aslong as she doesnt interfere with Huddy one bit.

    • Liz

If she does I might change my mind and say WELCOME!!!

    • Chris

I’m with you! Actually, I think it’ll help Huddy. Seeing Wilson find love again might be what House needs to keep pushing (or should I say pulling) on Cuddy.

      • nina

So, may be some patients chorus should sing House and Cuddy love song… :)

Another huddy shipper in show? Please, NO!

I love Hilson bromance. But I think that TPTB go from one extremity to the other: either House is totally dependent on Wilson or is fighting with him. It used to be subtly written well-balanced show. What happened to the writers???

      • xs

Give it up already! Huddy is a snooze, move on to something interesting.

  • Liz

Nothing against this woman, don’t know het – but can’t we have Cameron back instead?!

    • Anna

No please. We need moar Wilson no more Cameron. I hate her. Wilson rules.

      • LOL

too bad wilson and cameron were semi friends

    • Any

      Yes PLEASE

    • Jessica

      No please

      • LOL

        hey no whinning

    • Lydia

      No please

      • LOL

        eat your veggies no whinning

  • kate

don’t mind too much as long as she doesn’t interfere with hilson

    • Fallen

It’s funny you say that because there is no way that this will NOT interfere with Hilson. It’s almost like the whole point of this thing to seperate House and Wilson… and it sucks.

      • Riley

I know, right? It’s like the PTB at Fox are on the internet, watching us fans of House/Wilson, and saying OMG, David, MAKE THEM NOT GAY. and Mr. Shore’s like “SCRAMBLE, guys! Come out with bad ‘Huddy’, delusions, mental hospitals and girlfriends and sex!”

Personally, I would like to press “rewind” on House and go back to Season One.

  • Teresa

Did I miss something, with Jennifer gone don’t they still have TWO females – Cuddy & Thirteen??

    • UnHoly Diver

I misread that, too, at first. It says the show will be down one female, meaning one less; not “down to one female”.
Either way, I’m kinda meh… about it. The show has lost its luster and is no longer appointment viewing for me.

  • Alex

First, Shore needs to man up and say that he “fired” Jennifer Morrison and she’s not coming back as series regular.

    • Alexandria

This. I suppose there are always possibilities as long as the split was amicable (and considering they kept her on the payroll this entire season though she was only in a few eps, *I’d* be amicable if I were her), but for now and the foreseeable future, she’s gone. This needs to be said more clearly, I think.

And re: the general topic and how every House post on here degenerates into a Huddy discussion.
It’s a little premature to be discussing keeping her on when it’s unknown how the fans will react. Though I don’t have a problem with Lucas, Shore seems to have the impression that fan reaction was fairly negative. For all everyone knows, the same thing will happen with Cynthia, so I hope they keep it fairly open until they get some feedback. (IMO, there’s no reason to push Wilson back into dating if it’s not an organic move, especially with something so potentially awkward as with an ex-wife. I look forward to seeing how they do it, but I’m cautiously pessimistic.)

And does anybody else get weary when a ship is promised so early on? I find myself not rooting for Huddy or Booth/Brennan on Bones (for another example) just because they’ve made it too obvious. When Shore is out there tweeting “Huddy, yo!” every day, though the medical mystery remains, the social mystery and suspense regarding character interactions/development does not.

      • Mary

i think you meant greg yaitanes is out there tweeting “Huddy, yo!” every day as far as i know, shore has protected tweets.

      • Chris

“Shore seems to have the impression that fan reaction was fairly negative.” Are you saying it hasn’t been? Because it has been negative, incredibly so. But in any case it makes no difference – the writers don’t use fan feedback to guide their stories.

      • Jill

Shore promised Cameron would come back and then he fired Jennifer Morrison. The split is amicable because JM is too classy a lady to vent all over the tabloids.

The fan reaction to Lucas is negative because the Huddy fans hate anything that stops their ship and because Luddy is so badly written because it’s only there to stall House/Cuddy.

Huddy wasn’t promised till the season 3 re-writes. Until then it was the least likely of the 4 ships for House and with good reason. It’s all smoke and mirrors and no substance.

    • Meli

Shore doesn´t have to explain anyone if he fired Jennifer or not. She is the only one he has to tell what is going on and at this point I think it´s pretty clear that she won´t be back as series regular so she can do whatever she wants.
And if he calls her next year for a few episodes or to become a regular again she can tell him she is not interested.

      • lisa

she was interested when she came back to do ep. 17.

      • Meli

If she is interested then she will be back.

      • Lala

Agreed. He doesn’t have to explain any casting decisions, and he can add and drop whoever he wants.

      • Alex

Shore didn’t have to pander to Jennifer Morrison’s fans either saying that she would be back as series regular, and that Jennifer figured in his long term plans when obviously she didn’t but that’s what he’s been doing for the last two seasons. I think that after two years of lies her fans and House’s fans deserve better. I agree that he doesn’t have to explain any casting decisions, but if he’s going to speak either tell the truth or shut up.

      • Fi

lisa- She was contracted to come back for ep 17, still being on the payroll and all.

      • Jill

Shore needs to explain to Cameron fans why he lied. He spent over two years promising she would be back only to drop her completely.

I wasted 2 1/2 season watching a show I enjoyed less and less only because Shore promised Cameron would be back. If he’d been honest at the end of season 3, I’d have stopped watching after the fall of season 4 when Amber got dropped and Thirteen and Taub stayed.

Right now, Shore’s the lowest of the low.
