Being the president’s wife apparently has its perks.
Sources confirm to me exclusively that First Lady Michelle Obama has invited the cast of Glee to perform at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 5 — and, barring any last-minute glitches, they’re gonna do it!
Rumor has it Mrs. O and her daughters are big fans of the show. And since a White House gig is an offer that’s pretty darn hard to refuse, Glee‘s producers did some lickety-split schedule rejiggering in order to honor the request.
All in all, not a bad stretch for the Glee club: Glee The Music Volume 1 just moved up to No. 1 on the UK album charts, ahead of the ubiquitous Lady Gaga!
What do you think, folks? Do you already have your trip to D.C. booked? Are you salivating at the prospect of a Puck/Michelle Obama photo op? Sound off below!
Obama: Janet Mayer/PR Photos; Glee: Michael Yarish/Fox

Fantastic! Can’t imagine a more fun event for those participating in the Easter weekend. Everyone benefits, and the photo ops are going to be outta sight!!!
I just love the title of this article. Nice work, Michael!
I love this show!
You missed that I also ordered Rachel to appear in a short, plaid skirt.
P.S. I’m tired of hearing about Spring Awakening on ew.com.
LMAO, of course Mr. President.
Which would I rather read: accolades for a great musical, or this creepy dude salivating over Lea Michele’s short skirts on EVERY COMMENT BOARD IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE? Hmm. Tough choice.
PS: If you’d seen Spring Awakening, you’d have gotten to see a lot more of her than just her legs.
Hey Lola, how about searching for your clearly lost sense of humor?
*likes your AF status*
Oh my, that’s awesome!
Brilliant news for the cast, Macys are definatly kicking themselves now! haha! Now i really wish i was friends with the Obamas!
Kate – It wasn’t Macy’s that nixed their performance during the Thanksgiving parade, it was NBC.
haha i was just gonna say- i bet this makes up for being disinvited to macy’s parade
Does he realize that only about three of them can actually sing?
Correction: ALL of them do their own singing! You obviously don’t watch the show, do you?
“Their own singing?” Then why do they have to autotune them into oblivion?
Doug, shut up. Honestly, who’s bitter about Glee? Just don’t watch and don’t comment. No one wants to read your cynical view on Glee. What happened, you auditioned for idol and were told you can’t sing at all? These kids wll always be more talented and famous than you. Deal with it. And just to reiterate: Shut up. Now.
Doug, they autotune them so that the actors don’t have to sing the songs 24 times a day. They’d rather not have their actors get vocally exhausted…
If you want proof that they can sing, just look up the video of them performing the national anthem.
@Tom: *applaud*
they autotune them because of filming restrictions. as has been clearly stated. but go ahead and hate on them hater, nobody cares.
Truth is, it doesn’t really matter if the show is the representation of real life high school scenario. I’m not from the US and where I came from, we don’t really have these outcasts. Sure we do have the popular cliques or the geeky ones but high school was OK so I can’t really relate to the story but IT IS a good show. I like the the plots, the characters, the musics. Who cares if they can sing or can’t sing. Or if they lip synced (which they do during the shoot but they sang their own songs). That doesn’t effect how I feel about the show. It is still a fun and great series to watch. I don’t understand why people get so uptight over whether they can actually sing or if it is a misrepresentation of a high school environment. It’s fiction! It’s just entertainment. Heck, you should all go sue James Cameron for creating the film Avatar. That is so not real, out of the world movie. But it was a great movie and I watch it 3 times. Bottom line is, it’s just entertainment. If you can relate to it. Good for you. If you can’t, who cares?? It is still a great show.
*yawn* An idiot trying to bring talented people down because he’s jealous. Can you really get any more childish?
There are a few that are autotuned…Doug is right. One of them admitted that in an interview once I believe. My husband is a musician and, although he loves the show, he can tell who ‘needs help’ and who doesn’t. ‘Finn’ and the pregnant cheerleader will be completely drowned out by the others.
The only one who can’t sing that well is Finn. Have you *heard* the ladies and Artie?
Whatever. Cory sings fine for somebody who never had vocal training before the show. He was obviously good enough for Ryan Murphy to be cast for the roll.
I completely agree with Kristen. Is Cory Monteith the best singer ever? No. But he is still extremely talented and enjoyable to listen to. Not to mention the fact that he is also a great actor (and pretty attractive to boot). People need to stop being so harsh about him- clearly he is the right person for the roll.
i think he sings fine… now his dancing– eh, not so much
Yeah, I have *heard* Lea Michele. On Broadway actually. She was in fact one of the LIVE musical institution of Broaday’s most shining stars in Spring Awakening. That girl has pipes in ways that VERY few human bodies do. You need to have your hearing checked.
Who knows the difference between “role” and “roll?” People who finished sixth grade.
I agree on one thing: sometimes Cory’s voice sounds completely different on the album, but all of them are amazing singers and the show is hilarious (forgive me for any spell error, I’m Brazilian).
That’s many people’s complaint about the show….the songs are very overproduced when they doesn’t need to be — the kids can sing, but the autotune makes it seem as if they cannot.
They are going to do a live tour, and that should clear up any rumors about their abilities…
“when they don’t* need to be…”
Hello they can all sing, some just sing better than others
@Jason No I dont think he ever watched the show
Wow, just like in high school. If they were all amazing singers, you’d be complaining that it’s not realistic to find all them in one high school. Who cares who is autotuned or not?
I personally think that they can all sing. And I agree with Ash, if you don’t believe that they can sing, go watch the tour (I know I’m gonna go), or for that matter, watch their audition tapes. They have them singing by themselves.
P.S I love this show… I watch it all the time.
P.P.S Don’t disrespect the gleeks
Wow what a gig, the cast must be freaking out… what a year this is turning out to be for them.
So many people just starting to catch on to this amazing show.
Have to keep telling people its nothing like High School Musical LOL
Actually, this show is High School Musical for an older audience.
It’s an unrealistic portrayal of high school, with idiotic stereotypes.
I guess if you have a miserable high school experience you imagine that everyone’s only goal during High School was to make you feel lik an outcast, when the truth is if you had tried to socialize a bit you would have been fine. It’s like that 30 Rock episode where Liz goes to her class reunion, expecting to exact revenge, and realizes she was the one at fault
Which idiotic stereotype were YOU in high school? Or were you just the idiot?? Just wondering. And by the way, what makes Glee so fun is that it IS unrealistic and over the top. But all of that is besides the point of this article…..congrats the cast for the honor. YAY GLEE!!
WOW … I had a great high school experience and I love Glee. It’s a television show, it’s not that serious.
You obviously don’t understand the point of the show, idiot.
Actually, I’m currently in high school. I participate and chorus and theater, and I believe that Glee provides an extremely accurate interpretation of how high school really is. I know people just like Kurt, Finn, and Rachel. I think that you haven’t been in high school for awhile, and are looking back on those days through rose-colored glasses. But the reality is, Glee shows high school through the eyes of people who aren’t necessarily in the “popular crowd,” and I believe that it does high schoolers a great service by doing so.
I’m guna agree with diva^^ I had an amazing high school experience and the show is not far from the truth of a high schooler these days.I can pick out each character as a persont hat was in my school. its crazy how well these people portray “the stereotypical” kid. when in reality, the stereotypes are far from off.
I think you have some issues from your own high school experiences that need to be worked out in therapy. Glee is awesome. Don’t hate, appreciate.
I’m currently in high school and while Glee is not a perfect representation of what its like (it IS a fantasy) it is really close. There are a lot of really talented, really attractive unpopular people. I think the most realistic character is actually Finn
Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. Glee is brilliant BECAUSE every single character IS a stereotype, but is not “just” a stereotype. This is just like real HS, where the idealistic young teacher or nasty popular girl or stoopid jock were not merely their stereotypes. They – we – are people. My kids are just out of HS this year, and I have obviously been out a LONG time. We all love this show, and can identify with every single character.
I was in choir, band, theater and a techie. For you to say “socialize a bit you would have been fine” is simply not true. Kids are cruel, and dont understand anything about whats going on outside of the world until they are in it. I am better friends with people who literally wanted to kill me (for stupid reasons) now because they grew up, married, kids etc and realize it was stupid. And of course there are still those kids who will never grow up.
I think you’re missing the point of the show. Yes, it’s not exactly what high school was. Obviously. It’s not attempting to be. It is, however, a commentary on certain parts of high school that definitely do exist, even though you may never have had experience with them.
As far as the stereotypes go, that’s part of the genius of the show. They set up all these very stereotypical characters and then over the course of the show have been slowly molding them into real people, which is exactly what it’s like when you meet someone and prejudge them (and lets face it, we all do that) and then over time you get to know them and re-evaluate your analysis of them.
As a side note, I LOVE that episode of 30 Rock.
I was what one might consider an “outcast” in school and I had a ton of friends because I WAS social and they learned from me (and a few other bolder kids) that most of the time the differences between us just didn’t matter. The more people act out, the worse things get. Stand up for yourself in a reasonable way, make the popular kids feel dumb for a moment, and things usually clear up from there. Sure, some kids are monsters, but I found that them just being ignorant was closer to the truth. It’s not that hard to educate the ignorant. Stupidity, however, is its own problem.
Then you’d probably think my high school experience was completely unrealistic – I was in choir, musicals, sports, and honors classes, along WITH the popular kids (GASP!), most of whom I’d known since 1st grade.
The difference is that Glee is a satire. It makes fun of the stereotypes that High School Musical idolises.
I mean, let’s face it, I love Finn, but you’d never catch Zac Efron’s character or his fellow popular friends thinking you can get pregnant from non-sex in a hot tub.
Same here-High School Musical does
not compare. These people can actually sing and don’t sound like teenyboppers, which they aren’t.
the difference between Glee and High School Musical, is that in High school musical, they sing about anything and everything they can sing about. Where as in Glee, they cleverly put a glee club in the mix, so that it doesn’t seem so stupid when you’re singing. And yea the jocks in HSM weren’t as dumb as the jocks in Glee. I mean come on!
She didn’t notice (or doesn’t care) that they’re really bad lip synchers?
Or you didn’t notice that they actually sing on the show and are just trying to insult something you don’t understand? My guess is the latter.
They lip sync on the show, just like everyone singing in any movie or tv show lips syncs to his or her own (or, in some cases, another person’s) performance. When they appear live, the cast sings. Out loud. And well.
Apparently Eric didn’t see them KILL (in a good way) the “Star Spangled Banner” at one of the World Series games. They were fantastic.
And actually, they have said in multiple interviews, that while they ARE trying to match a previous recording, they DO actually sing along with it.
given that they don’t lip synch then i guess that would make them bad at it.
There’s also a problem of bad editing that goes with this ‘lip syncing’ issue. For example, if you listen to the ENTIRE recording of ‘Push It’ from Episode 2… the END of the song is actually played out towards to beginning of the performance at the assembly. They edit the performances for time (song of the songs, most… are 3:30 or 4:00 or longer…) and they’ve got to use the best/strongest portions of the performance. The editors need to get it in gear more, not the actors.
That is incredible…it’s a great show for the kids, and since it is a fairly new show, it’s lovely that it is getting the attention it deserves!!
Kate – It wasn’t Macy’s that nixed their performance during the Thanksgiving parade, it was NBC.
Oops – didn’t mean to repost!
this is a great opportunity for them, i would be freaking out! wow, they’ve come a long way. the lip-synching and autotuning comments are not necessary from those who cannot sing themselves and are apparently jealous of young people who can. the leading lady of the show (lea michele) has been on broadway. BROADWAY people. you can’t argue that. so i am sorry that even your mother won’t listen to you sing, but there’s no need for hate because others can!
go glee!
“i am sorry that even your mother won’t listen to you sing” – ahahaha. I am virtually high fiving you.
Great exposure for a show that doesn’t need it.
I feel bad for an already over-worked/rehearsed cast who will now have their Easter holiday cut into.
I apologize for people like you that have no taste in musical art.
I’d like to know how many actually celebrate Easter…lol
Well, they may also celebrate Passover–that’s a pretty important holiday too! (Or a number of other holidays–it’s quite a multicultural cast!)
I watch the show and am very happy for the cast that they get to sing at the White House.
But would it be too much to ask for them to actually sing on the set? So we can see their throats movie? I don’t care if they’re singing to themselves, I would just like them to be a little bit out a breath when they go from singing to talking. Thats all.
As a former voice major, they shouldn’t be out of breath after singing if they do it properly. The same with dance, as a former dancer. They just have to know how to control their breathing.
See my comment above. They have repeatedly said that they sing along with the recordings.
Yes, exactly. I remember them saying that listening to Amber sing live in the room was like a religious experience. xD
Besides, they have to air separate recordings of the songs in the episodes – would you really want to hear them all singing alongside the background noises of the cars on the motorway behind, cameramen coughing and people’s footsteps tapping all around the corridors?
This is great news. From my perspective as a music teacher for 42 years, this is my favorite show ever. (I rank “The Mary Tyler Moore” show and “I Love Lucy” right up there too.
The singing is terrific. And as Duke Ellington said, “If it sounds good, it is good.”
I think this is awesome for the Glee gang. They all sing well to me. Some sing better than others, but they are all talented. So what if they lip sync on the show. They do record the songs at some point. I wish the Glee kids the best. Go Glee!
OF COURSE they are lip synching on the show ! DUH…do you think it is performed LIVE? And virtually everyone uses and overuses autotune and the folks who go on about it barely even know what it IS…I will venture most of you cannot even HEAR the artifacts it leaves behind. I dont even watch the show but boy do some people need lives (me, for instance, even commenting on this)
