Pilot Intel: Jim Belushi eyes CBS' 'Defenders'

This just in: Jim Belushi is getting serious.

In one of the more unusual casting decisions of pilot season, CBS has tapped the According to Jim frontman to headline the prospective legal drama Defenders.

The project, which counts CSI‘s Carol Mendelsohn among its exec producers, centers on two charismatic and fiery Las Vegas defense attorneys who go to the mat for their clients.

Belushi plays Nick, a larger-than-life lawyer who fights for the little guy.

Thoughts? A little random, right?

He surely did some good serious stuff back in the 80’s and i think it would be really fresh to see him doing that again. Let’s hope he can raise the bar,

    • jan

he’s a fine actor. he just did a silly show for a decade.

  • mario

random to the max. wtf? this is like bizarro world.

  • Shadow Step

Funny how he looks like James Belushi.

    • Alexis

He, uh, is James. Do you mean John?

      • Mike

        He is pretty hot.

    • Sophie Ann

It is JAMES. Remember: John and he are brothers so there will be a resemblance.

I actually like Belushi. Sure, he hasn’t always been connected to the best material (According to Jim was unwatchable), but there is something likable about him. And he’s taken some more serious roles in movies, and I remember liking him in an episode of ER. And, I know it’s weird, but I find him attractive, so I may tune in to see his face….maybe there’ll be a topless scene? :-)

Yeah, I think this will be a great change for him. I don’t really care for Vegas, but whatever. Maybe something inbetween the serious “The Practice” and the fun but too political “Boston Legal”.

Dumb premise. I worked in the legal community in Vegas for years. Can’t wait to see how the “glamorize” Vegas attorneys!!! Most of the morons they would be defending belong in jail anyway.

  • Mike

Nothing against Belushi, but the first thing this makes me think is, “I wonder how many other people must have turned it down first?”

  • J.G.

How many people turned it down before they had to go to Jim Belushi?

    • Cassie

LOL. That made me laugh, thanks. :)

I feel bad now, but According to Jim was on the other day and I was talking to my boyfriend about how he had died. But I guess that didn’t happen.

    • Gina

That was his brother John and it happened years ago.

    • Cody

Maybe you are confusing him with John Ritter who died a few years ago. He was doing a sitcom at the time.

    • jc in nw

It was only his career that died.

  • MWC

I guess we will have to wait a little longer for that Curly Sue sequel.

maybe that actress can appear as a defendant/client and they can do the whole “don’t I know you from somewhere” bit…..maybe as a hoe or druggie…

I hated According to Jim just like any other sentient being, but the fact is, Jim Belushi is a pretty good dramatic actor. He did some solid supporting work in two excellent early films by Michael Mann and Oliver Stone, Thief and Salvador (respectively). And honestly he was pretty good in The Principal. I wouldn’t watch him in a comedy again anytime soon, but he’s fairly appealing in a dramatic role.

What was rong with according to jim It was A good family show. Ya some of the skit’s I did’nt care for. Like having your yung doughter bring him A beer. Sorry Jim I didnt call that cool. But the rest of it was great. Jim was one protective father.

    I am certainly intrigued.

The hell with Belushi … What do you think of Katee Sackoff playing Dani Reese? err a cop with a partner who tries to unravel who and what set him up for a big fall.

I love Katee, but just bring back Life instead of remaking it.

  • James D

Can’t wait to see a legal show called ‘The Defenders’. original

  • Big D

This guy is amazing. 7 or 8 years on According to Jim. and then right in to a new show. I can see this working. He just has to summon up some of the badassery he had in The Principal.
