Blind Item: Pilot season's juiciest story revealed!

Sick of seeing snow, snow and more snow? I feel your pain. (God, do I.) But perhaps I can relieve it, at least briefly, by offering you a blind item on which to focus? Let’s find out!

The situation is this: A hot — as in in-demand as well as easy on the eyes — free agent actor received several offers during pilot season. But one network was so determined to snag him for one of its higher-profile projects that when he turned it down, they offered it to him again. Then they polished the silver platter on which it had been offered and tried again. And again.

For months!

The leading man just wasn’t passionate about the show, you see, so was leaning in a different direction. Pretty much any other direction. Nonetheless, the network kept wooing him, upping the ante to the point that no human being could in good conscience refuse the kind of perks and pay they were dangling under his nose.

There’s just one problem: The pilot’s producers aren’t half as enamored of the star as the network, and now resent the fact that they’re “stuck” with him. Of course, knowing who I’m talking about, I’d say odds are pretty good that they’ll eventually fall for him, too. But in the meantime… who is he? And what’s the project? Guesses below. I won’t tell you if you’re right, but I may snicker more softly then.

    Rob Lowe

    • Bailey

      That was my first thought

    • MsDaisy

Is Rob Lowe really “in demand”?

    • Greta G

No, he said this actor is easy on the eyes

      • RJ

        Actually, he said:

“hot – as in in-demand as well as easy on the eyes.” So yes, this actor is in demand.

    • ceejay

      My first thought as well.

    • Stephanie Tanner

I hope its either Will Friedle or Matthew Lawrence.

      • Eddie Winslow

        What about Andrea Barber?

      • Alyssa

        BOY MEETS WORLD!!!

      • Katyo

This is the 2nd article I’ve seen where people are talking about Will Friedle and Boy Meets World. Did I miss something? Is that actor somehow relevant again? Or is his family trying to get him a career again?

      • Tom

Those are two of the least in-demand names I have heard in a long time. Sorry, you’ll have to time travel back to the early 90s and watch the disney channel or TGIF, sorry.

    • SH

Dermot Mulroney in the new Rockford Files

      • Jamie B.

        Agreed.

      • tex

        I think so too!

      • anon

has he ever been in demand?

      • MB

He’s not hot, and he’s never been in demand.

    • Andy

Why would anyone cast Rob Lowe in a series anymore, all he will do is quit after a few years.

      • Tops

“Why would anyone cast Rob Lowe in a series anymore, all he will do is quit after a few years.”

Because that’s what actors do? Is Rob Lowe the first actor to leave an established show to try new things? Why aren’t all those other short-termers tarred and feather with the “quitter” label every time they sign a new contract for something different?

      • Leslie

Has he left a show prematurely that wasn’t an ensemble cast? The 2 that come to mind for me, The West Wing & Brothers & Sisters, are both ensemble cast shows, & I think he left both because he felt he wasn’t getting enough screentime for his character.

  • Jacob

Enver Gjokaj? The guy from Dollhouse?

    • HanSolo

      a) I don’t think he is in the talks for a new show, at least I haven’t heard anything. Especially not as lead.
      b) He is not exactly “easy on the eyes”. Everyone’s taste is different, sure, but I don’t think he would fall into that category.

      • alia

I have to beg to differ. Enver = delicious.

      • topazbean

        Yum! You are wrong.

      • JImi

I’m also going to have to disagree.. I think he’s VERY easy on the eyes.

      • Jess

        Extremely easy on the eyes.

      • Nadine

Are you kidding? He’s strikingly handsome. And talented.

      • Katie G

are you kidding me? he is GORGEOUS

      • Amy

are you insane? Enver is extremely easy on the eyes. And he is one of the most talented actors out there right now! I loved Dollhouse, and he was one of the main reasons why! When he played Topher, if you closed your eyes you couldn’t tell the difference between the 2 of them! Anyone who wouldn’t want to scoop him up to lead a new show would be crazy!

    • 4815162342

      @alia
I didn’t say he is ugly but he has not what I would call a “pretty” face. Zach Efron, Ian Somerhalder, Alex O’Loughlin, Jensen Ackles…those are the kind of actor who would fall into that category.

      • Sarah

Alex O’Loughlin seems quite logical. However, I don’t know how “hot” he is as actors go for want-ability.

      • JImi

hrm.. I didn’t see “pretty” in the description. But you are right.. he’s not PRETTY.. he’s just hot. Zach Efron is definitely “Pretty” which doesn’t necessarily = nice to look at (when you are talking about a male anyways).

      • walter17

if it is him and the new Hawaii Five-O and it doesn’t work?

        three strikes he’s out.

      • Michael

Alex wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t get the appeal acting-wise. He’s only mediocre in my books. He is, however, hot.

      • LL

My first thought was Alex O’Loughlin.

      • anon

Alex O. totally makes sense, especially as I could see him not being passionate about Hawaii Five-O.

      • Ginny

Alex O’Loughlin was my first thought too. It’s no secret CBS wants to keep him. And he’s definetely easy on the eyes.

      • Barb

I, too, was thinking Alex O’L. He was badly miscast in Three Rivers. Doctors have to be very very intellectual and under pressure, while he’s more a physical type. But if he realized that he’d never have accepted the Three Rivers gig.

I think the Detective thing suits him pretty well… even without the vampire angle. But the fact that he’s already done it WITH the vampire would make him not anxious to try that again. I think he fits well.

I’d love to have seen him do a rotation as a cop on one of the L&O series, preferably the original one. However, I admit I’m very happy with both current cops there, so… something to keep him busy in the meanwhile, as TV’s longest running evening drama keeps on running…

      • tvfan

It’s Alex O’Loughlin, I don’t think he wanted Five-0, but they wanted him and they wanted a name to headline the show. I can see the producers being unsure about him, but I can see him winning them over.

      • Oliviatea

I doubt it’s Alex O. He’s good looking but with his track record of two consecutive failed shows, I don’t think he’s hot-as in in-demand. He has a holding contract with CBS so it’s unlikely that the network wooed him with excessive pay and perks for Hawaii Five O.

      • Terri

I think it’s Alex O…CBS are supposed to have offered him H5O a year ago and I think this time they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. We all know Nina Tassler wants to hold on to him for some reason.

      • AngelEyes

Definitely Alex O’Loughlin. After two failed television shows with CBS, I can see him not wanting to jump into a third (wasn’t he disillusioned after the cancellation of MOONLIGHT?).

      • tex

If they want to keep him so badly then they should quit canceling shows he is good in (Moonlight). I am VERY afraid of this H50 remake. I don’t see “winner” here. :(

      • MB

I think it’s AO, too. If I were running the new Hawaii 5-0, he would not be my first choice to play Steve McGarrett.

    • kat

i’m definitely an Enver fan (but I have a feeling it isn’t him :(

  • MJinMichigan

Perhaps David Tennant? Which would be a huge bummer, as I’d really like to see him succeed big in his first leading post-Doctor-Who role.

    • rebecca

This was my first thought too. Who knows.

    • TZ

I totally thought this too, but it was mentioned somewhere that he had to audition for “Rex,” so I don’t think anyone was wooing him in America.

      • LogopolisMike

No, the producers said about Tennant that he was just the actor they were looking for once he auditioned (Not that people in Hollywood don’t lie… but still it doesn’t sound like this is doesn’t sound like a “stuck with” feeling) Also, I’m pretty sure Tennant didn’t have to get bribed to take the role since the lead in a US series is, by all accounts, exactly what he was looking for.

Also, since NBC has seemed to run cold on the pilot anyway, it doesn’t fit from that angle either.

But I don’t follow things THAT closely, so take my opinion with a Morton’s worthy pile of salt.

    • Zoey

…I don’t think so either, but not because of above mentioned reasons. He doesn’t fall into the easy on the eyes category. At all.

      • Andi

I know this is a matter of taste but David Tennant is crazy sexy.

      • Alana

I agree with Andi! Major sex appeal, especially with that accent!

    • Joe Bua

Tennant? No. Mulroney? Probabaly. O’Loughlin (because CBS is in LOVE with him) maybe.

    • F

That skunk is neither hot nor in demand. He’s a nobody in the U.S.!

  • S.

I have a nasty feeling it’s Taylor Lautner

    • Gretchen

kidding, right? Why on earth would be do tv?!

      • Niko

He did do TV before. My Own Worst Enemy, right?

    • phantom

He’s a young punk dork. I certainly hope it’s not him. He hasn’t even proven he can act yet in my eyes.

  • mrlogical

Jeeze, everyone knows this is about the great Jim Belushi!

    • Big Walt

      Two words: Kevin Sorbo.

  • CheeseB

Who cares? Either tell the full story or don’t say anything at all. I hate blind items!

    • Jim

Ditto!! What’s the point? It’s like the bully across the street shouting, “Neeneer neener neener, I know something you don’t know!!!!”.

      • Erika

Then why do you read them?

      • Nicotine

Or take the time to respond to them?

      • Lola

Because it’s the internet and they have the right to post their opinion…

      • Cali

The Blind Items would be much more fun if the truth was eventually revealed. I love the gossip, but never knowing gets old.

      • Sue1

I agree with Cali. It’s fun to speculate, but we’ll never know the answer….

    • KWise

I totally agree. I find the whole blind item thing to be weird, very weird. and Jim, it is exactly like the bully across the street shouting “i know a secret and you don’t.” Why do I read them? I don’t know….I keep thinking I’ll get an answer somehow…but never do.

      • Trill

Well put, KWise. I’d find the Blind Items entertaining if we got the answer the next day.

    • Al

      Ditto.
I don’t like blind items. If there was actual follow-up to the blind items, they would make sense, but most of them end up in pure speculation and we never find out what or who they were about.

      • topoopon

I know. It’s “My Name is Earl”!

  • Scott

I’m gonna guess that Moonlight guy for “Hawaii 5-O”

    • Snsetblaze

      That was my immediate thought.

      • athena606

Alex O’laughlin for for ever since CBS canceled MOONLIGHT they’ve been desperate to book him

      • Heidi

I think it’s Alex as well. Producers are looking at the previously cancelled shows and wondering if he really has the drawing power the people who fought for him, think he has.
As for me, I just hope its a good show because I like all three actors attached to the project.

      • walter17

personally i do not see what they see in him.

i don’t think he’s hot or attractive as a guy.

    • Marla

It has to be Hawaii 5-0, that seems obvious, but which actor? I dunno

    • Luca

probably not. he’s got a holding contract with CBS so they didn’t have to woo him. He probably had no choice but to take the gig. as part of the contract

    • George Jefferson Jetson Clinton

The show was called Moonlighting. And it was on ABC, not CBS. And “that guy” was Bruce Willis

      • Sloane

Get out of the 80s George. We are taking “Moonlight” the vampire show.

      • Nicole

Moonlight was a show on CBS about a vampire. Not to be confused with Moonlighting, with Bruce Willis

      • Dav

Please tell me you are joking….

      • Julie C

Les? Is that you darling? Moonlighting. LOL

  • My

    Alex O’Laughlin, Hawaii 5-0. (Can’t believe I’m the first!)

    • My

      I guess I wasn’t the first. :-)

    • Buckly

      You aren’t.

    • Paloma

Exactly. CBS keeps casting him in shows and the shows keep failing. If I was a producer, I wouldn’t necessarily want him either.

    • bigbowood

It’s definitely Alex O’Louglin. When I first read about his casting in the pilot, I remember seeing something that mentioned that he had initially turned it down. Plus, CBS is VERY high on him (remember after “Moonlight” was cancelled, Nina Tassler said something to the effect of it was the right star wrong show (I’m greatly paraphrasing). His holding deal with CBS was likely up and his show was cancelled, which is why he’d be a “free agent.” And I can see why the producers might not be thrilled, because he’s viewed by fans of as more of a romantic lead than a “cop.”

      • Silverchex

You are spot on in ALL your facts!!!

      • vwm

Usually M.A. puts clues in his blind items: He talks about Snow and it never snows in Hawaii. He talks about the actor being “hot,” which it will be in Hawaii and finally, he says “no human being” and since Moonlight was about Vampires… Alex O’Laughlin & Hawaii 5-O was my first thought too! I guess CBS gets their man.

      • vwm

Btw, Alex is in demand because he’s starring in Jennifer Lopez’s last flick soon to be released. Plus, this will be the 3rd time he will be a cop/dectective…The Shield, Moonlight and now playing Steve McGarrett.

      • GT

I looooooooved Moonlight… primarily for him. Hope it works.

    • Josh

That was my first thought also…

    • madcatjo

This is who I thought of immediately as well.

I bet they’ll get some barely post-pubescent prettyboy for the Rockford Files reboot as well (instead of JOE FLANIGAN)…

HATING the post-pubescent prettyboy craze at the moment!!!!!

      • Paloma

Right, but can you really have the Rockford Files WITHOUT James Garner? Can you see anybody doing it better? because if it isn’t better it will fail. EPIC fail.

      • tex

Well they definitely didn’t go pre or post-pubescent… they cast Dylan McDermott who is way hot but not with the full on silver fox thing.

      • SH

        @tex,
It’s Dermot Mulroney, not Dylan McDermott. You’re welcome.

  • Hayley

    Lee Pace!

I just really want it to be him, but absolutely have no idea who the heck he’s talking about.

    • Jodi

I’d watch Lee Pace in ANYTHING!

      • Erin

        Me too!

    • Sarah

      Me three!!!

Watch Miss Pettigrew, The Fall or Wonderfalls if you haven’t already. Love him!

      • Hillary

I watched all three of those because of him! I love him and can’t believe I didn’t know about him until Pushing Daisies!

  • Marissa

    Alex O’Loughlin for Hawaii Five-O

  • Rodney

I bet it’s William Shatner cast in Stupid Shit my Father says.

    • Stephanie

This made me laugh for some reason

    • JMB

THAT would be a HUGE bucket of awesomesauce!

  • MrsHorrible

Well, since NPH is actually busy and NOT a total free agent, I’d rule him out…

  • Heather

Alex O’Laughlin from Hawaii 5-0. This will be his 3rd CBS show.

    • walter17

either third time is a charm or it’s his 3rd strike and he’s out.

  • Jill

Yeah, I think it’s Alex O’Loughlin too. Oh well, they’ll love him eventually.

  • MrsHorrible

Oh, Enver….how I want him on my TV again. And never to leave it ever ever again…
