Jay Leno's first guests include Sarah Palin, Simon Cowell and the cast of 'Jersey Shore'

Categories: Television, TV Biz

Sarah Palin and Simon Cowell are among the first guests who have agreed to appear on The Tonight Show when Jay Leno returns on March 1. His first night back isn’t particularly star-powered: He’ll have Jamie Foxx and Olympic Gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn on the couch, with a musical performance by Brad Paisley. But on Tuesday, Leno is sure to get the eyeballs with an appearance from Palin, who will be joined by Olympic Gold medal snowboarder Shaun White. On March 3, the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore will help with Leno’s Jaywalk All-Stars segment while Chelsea Handler and speed skater Apolo Ohno will chat with Leno. On March 4, Matthew McConaughey and Jason Reitman will drop by, followed by Morgan Freeman on March 5 and Cowell on March 8. Joan Jett and The Blackhearts will perform March 9, and Kristen Stewart will appear March 10. Other guests include Dana Carvey on March 11 and Judd Apatow on March 12.

Exclusive: First Look: Wilson's first ex-wife is in the 'House'

Categories: First Look, House

Here’s your first look at Cynthia Watros in action as Wilson’s first ex-wife and new girlfriend, Sam Carr, on House. The reunion marks Wilson’s first serious romance since the tragic death of Amber two years ago. But whether he’s taking a step back or forward remains to be seen. “There can be great comfort in the past,” says Robert Sean Leonard. “He wants his blankie. And there’s the extra benefit of familiarity and, in a way, a lack of drama.” Actually, thanks to House, the last thing Watros’ quirky, independent character (who debuts April 19) will be bringing with her is a lack of drama. Trust me.

Scoop: McSteamy's daughter joins 'Scoundrels'

Sarah Connor Chronicles alum Leven Rambin, who just wrapped an arc on Grey’s Anatomy as Mark’s pregnant daughter, has joined the cast of ABC’s summer series Scoundrels.

The dramedy centers on the matriarch (Virginia Madsen) of a family of crooks who attempts to lead her brood on an honest, hardworking path after her hubby (Neal McDonough) is sent to prison. Rambin will play their dumb-as-nails, aspiring model daughter, Vanessa.

Scoundrels — which has been picked up for eight episodes (all of them slated to air this summer) — is based on the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune.

This just in: Phew.

ABC Family has done the right thing and renewed Greek for a 10-episode fourth season, sources confirm. I’m told the decision — which, not surprisingly, hinged on money — came down to the wire.

My bubble show scorecard has been updated accordingly.

Relieved?

Pilot Intel: Fox working on five new dramas, nine comedies

Categories: TV Biz, TV Pilots

With Jack Bauer’s future still uncertain (though it hasn’t stopped the network’s sister studio from getting started on a possible 24 feature film), Fox is looking to hot producers like Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and Matt Olmstead (Prison Break) to create its next edge-of-your-seat drama for fall. And there’s no time to lick wounds over the abject failure that was Brothers; Fox has loads of multi-camera comedy pilots in the works including new projects from Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl) and the duo of David Kohan and Max Mutchnik (Will & Grace). Here are the network’s fall pilots, many are still being cast (decisions on which projects will be ordered to series won’t be made until the weeks leading up to Fox’s presentation to advertisers, which occurs this May in New York):

Dramas

Ride Along (Shawn Ryan). An ensemble cop show that includes a veteran cop and his newbie partner in Chicago.

Midland (Kyle Killen). A Texas-based sudser about a con man with family secrets.

Breakout Kings (Matt Olmstead, Nick Santora). A procedural about marshals who work side-by-side with ex-cons to catch criminals.

Pleading Guilty (Jason Tracey). Based on the Scott Turow book Pleading Guilty, a ragtag trio is hired by a high-powered law firm to locate its top litigator and $5 million of stolen money.

Worthy (Davey Holmes). A drama about an Arizona politician who’s been blackmailed by the mob.

Comedies

Nirvana (Jay Saghal). A multi-camera comedy about two Indian brothers and their two very different romances.

Most Likely to Succeed (Dave Walpert). A multi-camera ensemble comedy that checks in with those who were dubbed “most likely to succeed” 20 years ago.

Traffic Light (Bob Fisher). A single-camera comedy based on an Israeli format about three men and their romances.

Keep Hope Alive (Greg Garcia). A single-camera comedy about a simple-minded 20-something man who is raising a daughter.  Cast includes Martha Plimpton (Parenthood) and Cloris Leachman (The Women).

The Station (Kevin Napier) A single-camera comedy about a covert CIA operative and his work buddies while embedded in South America. Cast includes Justin Bartha (The Hangover).

Untitled IRS project (Brent Forrester). A multi-camera comedy about IRS auditors. Cast includes David Krumholtz (Numb3rs).

Untitled Adam Goldberg. A single-camera office comedy about man who works for a digital security firm.

Strange Brew (David Kohan, Max Mutchnik). A multi-camera comedy about a family that owns a small brewery.

Bob’s Burgers (Jim Dauterive, Loren Bouchard). An animated series about a family who runs a burger joint (the network’s already ordered 13 episodes).

Pilot Intel: CW develops six new dramas; fate of 'Melrose Place' unknown

Heather Locklear can only do so much. With the fate of the struggling drama Melrose Place up in the air (and other CW dramas like The Beautiful Life are now dead and gone), the network has gone back to the drawing board and developed six new dramas for the 2010-11 season.

Here are the CW’s fall pilot orders, many of which are still being cast (decisions on which projects will be ordered to series are typically made in the weeks leading up to the CW’s presentation to advertisers, which occurs this May in New York. And remember, the network is out of the half-hour business, thus, no sitcoms):

Dramas

Betwixt (writer Elizabeth Chandler). Supernatural drama based on novel of same name about creatures who fight evil forces.

Untitled Amy Holden Jones. Drama focusing on the freshman class at Harvard Medical School.

Hellcats (Kevin Murphy). Action follows competitive college cheerleading.

Nikita (Craig Silverstein). An update of La Femme Nikita.

The Wyoming Project (Amy Sherman-Palladino, Dan Palladino). Family sudser that takes place on a small midwest ranch.

Nomads (Ken Sanzel). Group of free-spirited youths backpacking through other countries agree to perform secret missions for CIA.

Exclusive: Will Watros' 'House' call be extended?

Categories: House

House may soon be Cynthia Watros’ permanent home.

The once-and-future Lost star doesn’t kick off her multi-episode arc as Wilson’s first ex-wife and new girlfriend until April 19, but series creator David Shore says he’s already toying with the idea of keeping her around long-term. “We’re talking about that,” he tells me. “It depends what’s going to give us the most bang for our buck dramatically.” READ FULL STORY »

Kreuk is currently recurring on Chuck, which is also produced by Schwartz. It’s all starting to make sense!

This Just In: Fox cancels 'Past Life'

Categories:

Past Life has taken its last breath. Fox has decided to pull the low-rated (and critically drubbed) drama off the air, effectively canceling it. Original episodes of Kitchen Nightmares will fill the Thursday void beginning next week. Fox says Past Life will return to the schedule at a later date, which is code for “Summer Fridays!”

Will anyone miss it?
