Julianne Moore confirmed for appearance on 'As the World Turns'

A spokeswoman for Julianne Moore confirmed an EW exclusive report that the co-star of A Single Man will make an appearance on As the World Turns, the CBS soap that helped to launch her career in Hollywood. Moore’s appearance will be a walk-on, her spokeswoman said. She’ll greet her character’s parents and wish them well. Moore could tape her episode as early as this Wednesday.

The Oscar-nominated actress got her start on ATWT in 1985 by playing half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina Hughes – a depiction that earned her a Daytime Emmy in 1988, the year she left the show. ATWT will end its 54-year-run in September.

I think it’s cool that she’s willing to go back to TV to help sign off the show that launched her career. A lot of stars, once they hit the big screen, they never look back. Pretty classy.

      I love her face, collegedatematch

  • graeme

Yup. This is very cool of Julianne to do.

  • boocat

I remember watching her on ATWT …..

    • TJ

Me too, during the great Douglas Marland years. She was awesome.

  • Joni

This is very cool. Kudos to Julianna for being loyal to her acting roots. The Frannie/Sabrina storyline – along with the Marcie (Marissa Tomei) ones were a couple of my favorites back in the day.

I wish it was more than a walk-on…

  • cameobrooch

My admiration for her has just gone up another notch.

  • just bill

I’ll bet you she cops a Daytime Emmy nomination for it.

  • db

She is the most awesome woman ever.

  • John

I believe she is filming one day and the story is it’s her folks anniversary. I believe she ill have more than one line but will most likely only be on screen for one to two days max.

  • Lis

It would be cool if Meg Ryan (Betsy) Marissa Tomei (Marcy) come back since they were best friends on the show.

Ahh…the glory days of ATWT. How I remember. Julianne Moore is already a class act…this is even more proof. In Moore’s more than capable hands, Frannie/Sabrina were CHARACTERS, not caricatures. You could see subtle differences between the two and it left you so amazed. Too often acting on soaps is pretty over the top. Moore and a few others make it look so easy. Is it too much to ask for Ming-Na to return to the show to reprise Lien (Tom’s Vietnamese daughter)? Lien was one of my favorite characters and Ming-Na even answered most of my fan letters. She’s another class act. We sure will miss you ATWT!

That’s really classy of Moore. Nathan Fillion did the same thing with AMC a couple years ago. I think actors who make their big break on soaps should acknowledge the debt they have to the programs that gave them their first chance.

    • gigi

You’d be surprised that more actors do acknowledge their soap past than don’t. Also you’d be surprised to know of all the actors and actress out there that are soap fans.

P.S….Nathan Fillion was on OLTL as Joey Buchannan. :)

      • Jen

I loved him on OLTL, his affair with Dorian was one of my favorite storylines!

      • melissa

I fell in love with Nathan Fillon as Joey. He was the best! And I’ve loved him since.

  • orville

It’s very cool that she’s doing this to honor the show that started her career. Maybe her signing on will get some of the other famous alumni to sign on too.

  • Oscar

    Love it.
