Well, it sounded like an intriguing idea at the time: ABC decided to pass on developing a small screen version of the apocalyptic film 2012, a drama series that would have depicted the disaster’s aftermath. Future production costs may have been a factor in ABC’s decision, though the status of the network’s other high-concept genre shows (FlashForward, V) could have played a role, too. Both shows struggled in the ratings last fall and have yet to receive a second season pickup. A spokeswoman for ABC declined to comment.
Last November, 2012 executive producer Mark Gordon, who was on board to produce the TV show, told EW that ABC “will have an opening in their disaster-related programming after Lost ends” so he thought “people would be interested in this topic on a weekly basis. There’s hope for the world despite the magnitude of the 2012 disaster as seen in the film. After the movie, there are some people who survive and the question is how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like. That might make an interesting TV series.”

I wasn’t that interested in the project anyways. It was a lousy movie and I can’t see them improving on the concept for the small screen.
@ba24 I agree with you 100%. That “movie” sucked.
this is great news!
So basically LOST but set two years from now? No thanks. Glad it didn’t get picked up.
Finally, a network makes a smart decision…
I thought this was done already – it was called Jersey Shore.
As said the movies okay. but a Tv series what can they do to make it run for seasons, not much. like to me it kinda sounds interesting but it only has the potential for one season. it would just show people repopulating the earth and nothing more. ABC made a good choice its a bad idea and doesnt have much potential to be a “GOOD” TV series
wow…thats great,i always wonder whats next when the main characters in 2012 starts a new life in Cape of good Hope in South Africa
Thanks ABC
I would have liked a show like this, but judging by the comments on this page, it seems to be a bad idea. think about it, the people who come here already have a heightened interest in this movie/show, and especially those who take the time to comment. So it’s dead in the water.
This was a great movie, but you would have to see in a theater. On the small screen it didn’t work.
This show might just actually work out. After all, massive dramatic disaster movies work best on big screens, but a series about a rebuilding civilization should work better on TV. Hope they don’t just pull a “Lost” and focus on too many people at a time.
It’s in point of fact a nice and useful piece of information. I’m happy that you just shared this helpful information with us. Please keep us up to date like this. Thank you for sharing.
