Scoop: Dana Delany off 'Desperate Housewives'?

dana-delanyImage Credit: : Ron Tom/ABCWow – and I thought I was popular! Dana Delany is so well-regarded over at ABC that network prez Steve McPherson is inviting her to cheat on Desperate Housewives by starring in Body of Evidence, an Alphabet pilot that, if it’s picked up, would almost certainly take her away permanently from Wisteria Lane.

Of course, that’s provided a deal can be made. As of now, Delany is still in talks to headline Evidence, a procedural that centers around a female medical examiner who used to work as a neurosurgeon. ABC declined to comment.

So, all that said, are you thinking what I am: WTF?! Share your conspiracy theories below. What does this mean for DH? And what on earth is so special about this role on Body that only the China Beach alum could play it?

I’d love to see her in a new pilot, I think she’s an amazing actress, and I feel like Katherine is just done on DH, there’s no way they can ever hang out with the girls again after everything she did and.. well, those women with their men are kind of the essence of the show.

    • CaptainMessyPants

Agree. She has given me wood since her China Beach days.

    • Bernice

OMG do you guys remember her on that Fox show Pasadena? I was kinda sad that didn’t take off. I thought she was really good on there.

      • teacher

I loved Pasadena. I didn’t think anyone else remembered it!

    • Beth

Liked her on China Beach, not so much on DH. She would be better in a real drama.

  • kathy C

She is wasting away on DH.

    • Marie

I couldn’t agree more, especially now that the show has ‘made’ her gay. I strongly support gay rights but am sick of t.v. shows relying on lesbian antics to charge things up! It just perpetuates the mentality of ‘homosexuality is cool…if it involves 2 physically attractive women!’ Sorry I had to vent, it’s been on my mind all week.

      • leo

amen to that. first grey’s anatomy and now desperate housewives; the lesbian schtick is dull, dull, dull – especially since they don’t do anything worthy of the women involved. if the gay storyline is so cool, then let’s see tom or carlos or mike or derek or mark or sloan get some mano-a-mano action.

      • CC

Agreed. I didn’t mind it on Grey’s as much as I thought I would (you know, since Callie chased George obsessively for so long), but I’d like to see more of Joe the bartender and Walter and their kids, instead of dropping them to the wayside. And/or a new gay male character. And since I’m starting a wish list, Mark and Lexie back together, and Teddy with Owen and Cristina with Jackson Avery…………..

      • Danielle

I agree with this completely. For me, though, it’s not that the “homosexual/lesbian” context of the stories (hello..my brother is gay!), but, instead..the fact that these characters go from straight to gay, essentially, over night?? I mean, come on!! You don’t just wake up “gay” one day and if you were having gay inclinations later in life, I’m sure it would be a very gut-wrenching process..not just a matter of opening a door and falling into bed with someone (the way Katherine did on DH). JMO.

      • No Kidding

        My thoughts exactly!

  • Jacob

OMFG, I love Dana on DH so I would be sad if she left.
But good for her. She is an amazing actress.

    • LOL

“Amazing” is so tired. Try something else.

      • Jacob

“LOL” is so dull. Try something else.

Yeah, I couldn’t come up with anything bitchier.

      • Julien

        go Jacob!

  • ccs

    She goes– I go!

  • David

She is so wasted on DH which has been losing steam for a long time now anyway. She’d do well to headline a show of her own (as long as it didn’t tank of course).

    • slick

Agreed. I strive for optimism but every year the writing and plot construction gets lazier and lazier. There’s practically more dramatic complexity with two five year old girls improvising with Barbie dolls. Nowadays, aside from the season openers, cliffhangers, and the occasional sweeps episode, it’s hardly ever worth watching.

  • Ryan

Dana Delany rocks! I give all her shows a shot. I’m still sad Pasadena didn’t make it. It might be a smart move if Body of Evidence is that good. Housewives struggles to find things for Katherine to do. Maybe she and Julie Benz will ride off into the sunset together.

  • Rebeca

I love DH more for her, which is why I’m mostly watching now. It would be a HUGE mistake to let her go.

  • KR

I think she’s fantastic but I’m not sure I want her stuck in some procedural…

  • Jon

I love Dana, but she’s underutilized on DH. She’s a headliner and strong enough of an actress to have a show built around her. Good for her.

  • dorian1963

Love DD. Will never watch crap like Desperate Housewives, so would be stoked if she got picked up on another show.

  • Deb

Looking forward to seeing Dana on ABC’s Castle, March 21 and March 22

  • HD

I didn’t watch DH its first season but all subsequent seasons and nothing has compared to Katherine Mayfair’s story as far as the big mystery goes. So if she wants to go and there’s something out there that will make better use of her, I say go for it!

    • slick

Poor you! :( The first season was the only one really worth watching. Rent it!

      • agreed

Agreed. 1st season >>>>>> 4th season. The fourth season seems entirely lame by comparison.

  • Iris

Well I’m happy for her, but atm she’s the only reason Im watching DH…

  • Don J

Dana needs to get the hell off Desperate Housewives. The Katherine character is already damaged beyond repair and I wouldn’t mind seeing her headline her own show.

  • Nick B

Oh please don’t stick her in a lame procedural! Let her have fun on Desperate Housewives!
