All I can say is thank God for Verizon FIOS!
TV is worthless now that you can download anything you want for free, and ABC wants 40 million more?? Good luck with that.
This is pretty simple. You and I (the public) own the “public” airwaves that ABC broadcasts on; in fact, they have to get a license from the FCC to use them. They get it for free.
There’s no cost for them to use those airwaves.
To charge anyone the right to “rebroadcast” them is just pure profit. To charge anyone MORE money to do the same thing is just GREED.
ABC is asking for more money, but not doing anything additional to earn it. They’re asking for money from Cablevision (which YOU will end up paying) for something they don’t have to pay for. It should be illegal.
I’m writing the powers that be in Washington (FCC, Congress) and I hope you do the same.
With the introduction of digital TV over the air, it might become a wise approach to buy a small digital tuner with HDMI output, which you can connect driectly to your HD TV or through your home theater receiver. This way you have an alternate for any service interruption or contract dispute with the cable provider!
You fools! Hahahaha. Even I don’t have cable TV at home anymore. Get satellite, like any smart person!
My satellite got knocked out by storms several times. Not so smart.
No cable at our house. We have a 25+ year old antenna in the attic (left there when we moved in). We don’t have a digital tv or converter box. See HD tv using our flat screen monitor and computer with a ATSC tuner card. Also does DVR.
unfortunately , antennas don ‘ t work everywhere .
Right – and yet the article is saying that they can be used. WTF?
You’re right. We’re lucky. We get 26 channels. BTW, we have FIOS, but only for computer use, so we stream also.
Let’s get with the times here. Provide us a way to see the Oscars on the TV and I’ll be happy. ABC will lose viewers, not Cablevision.
it ‘ s sad all the way around and as usual the consumer suffers……
I don’t care about the oscars but if I can’t watch LOST tuesday night I’ll hold a grudge against ABC and cablevision and look at alternatives to both!
I thought antennas no longer worked – we were told that for about a year. ???
That right everybody had to buy converter
Antennas work without a converter box if you have a newer tv that’s capable of getting the digital signal.
Cant believe ABC did that. Not cause of the Oscars but in general.Dont they get enough money.Did u try planning a trip for 6 to disney.Need to take out second mortgage. All the bonuses the upper people got some people dont make that in a lifetime.when n if it comes back on air there will b one less person watchn just like the other channels did a month or two ago
How do ABC’s commercial sponsors feel about losing so much audience?
I really don’t care about Oscars. Will read in news to morrow
I really don’t care about Oscars. Will read in news tomorrow.
Greedy ABC is getting about $7 Million per commercial minute for the Oscars. Yet they are screwing their CableVision viewers. CableVision is charging lots of money to its viewers. Here is how to hit them in the pocketbook and make your voice heard:
1. Call ABC and tell them that you are going to boycott Disney, ABC and its sponsors.
2. Call ABC’s sponsors and tell them that you will not buy any of their products until they STOP advertising on ABC during the blackout.
3. Call Disney and tell them that you are cancelling your vacation at their theme park and will not buy any of its products during the blackout.
4. Call CableBlindness and demand a refund of at least the $18 per month that you pay for local programming during the blackout.
5. Call/write your senators and congressmen as well as the FCC.
