Exclusive: Will 'Big Bang Theory' beam up Spock?

nimoy-big-bang-theoryImage Credit: Parsons: Cliff Lipson/CBS; Nimoy: CBSSheldon’s dream of meeting Leonard Nimoy may soon become a reality on The Big Bang Theory. Executive producer Bill Prady says the hit sitcom will likely approach the Star Trek legend early next season about making a cameo.

“We’ll probably make a general inquiry,” says Prady. “And if there’s enough interest, we’ll develop a story. The fans have said that’s the dream get, and we agree.”

Nimoy declined an invitation to appear on Big Bang back in season 2, although the 78-year-old has since returned to television with a recurring gig on Fringe. “There’s always an issue with actors playing themselves,” Prady theorizes, “which most actors would rather not do.”

Perhaps Nimoy would be more amenable to playing a cloned version of himself? Sheldon does, after all, possess a napkin with the actor’s DNA on it. “I think [cloning Nimoy] is beyond even Sheldon’s capabilities at this point,” says Prady with a laugh. “Although I wouldn’t underestimate him.”

Oh the Lord heard me and read my Bingbang-must list!! Super Awesome!

    • BlatantURLPimpingMustDie

“Super awesome”? How so? This is purely speculative. Prady may as well have said, “We are thinking about maybe possibly inviting Harrison Ford to appear on the show, at some undetermined point in the future.”

  • Desmo

    I heart Leonard Nimoy.

    • meetsinglenurses

      He’s better than Shats

  • Cathwoman21

But last episode Sheldon said he has a restraining order from Leonard Nimoy… So he met him in the past and Mr. Nimoy was so annoyed he put a restraining order on him? Am I making sense?

    • Andrea

I also remember Sheldon saying that Nimoy had a restraining order against him! Mind you, that might be a good way to work him into the episode for a guest spot. Whatever the storyline, I hope it happens!

      • Jackie

I don’t think he would necessarily have had to have met Leonard Nimoy in person for Nimoy to take out a restraining order. If Sheldon sent tons of fan letters or came across as a crazed stalker-fan (which I can totally see), then I think that could result in a restraining order as well.

    • Anna Mae Fletcher :)

I was thinking that, too. Maybe it’s not Sheldon that sees him…maybe LP or HB or RH run into him somewhere.

    • Jeremy

The perfect way to get him on – have him as a witness for the Stan Lee trial against Sheldon.

      Or something.

      • Erin

        Exactly!

  • quincy

    YES!!!

  • orville

It could be a (fever) dream sequence involving cloning Nimoy. They could go as over-the-top as they wanted to with something like that. Nimoy wouldn’t have to worry about playing himself so much as a hightened parody of his persona then.

    • Sue1

I thought of the dream sequence too, for the same reasons. Nimoy could play Sheldon’s idealized version of Spock, perhaps having an incredibly logical discussion that Sheldon can’t win.

  • darclyte

    Make it so.

  • Mike O

    Bring it on!

  • david w

my dream guests would be to have geoffjohns the greatest comic writer of my generation guest star on tbbt since he’s tweeted about how he like the show.

and while we are talking about dream guest stars i want summer glau to have guest star role on chuck with a scene that includes her firefly costar adamsbaldwin

    • darclyte

I’ve been hoping that they bring Summer on as like Casey’s daughter (he’s 48 and she’s 28) who he either didn’t know he had or had to leave her and her mother behind for his career, and then have her be attracted to Chuck and have Casey freak out.

  • jjnado

what if nimoy played an older sheldon? perfect casting!

  • Cindy

As long as they keep William Shatner far away from the set, I’m happy.

  • Mike

I hope Aus isn’t counting this as any kind of scoop or exclusive. Bang execs said this in the summer at SDCC. But it’s nice that he reported 7 months later….

    • CaptainMessyPants

Aus is more worried about getting a pickle in his arseloch than scooping his competitors.

  • sharmilla

i luv this show and oh yea i luv star trek. so by all means bring on spock. hey even seeing them dream an episode on the ship would be a fan’s dream!

Sheldon, much? I like the idea of Nimoy as an older Sheldon maybe in some kind of “Lostie” physics/ parallel universe!

  • Sunfell

Why just Leonard Nimoy? Why not go for the motherlode and get Zach Quinto on BBT, too? Maybe a ‘Spock vs. Spock’ showdown. That would be a total hoot.

    • orville

Oh, that would be almost too awesome. And if they do go the fever dream sequence route, they could have Quinto do Spock as Sylar (or vice versa).

  • Sam

    WANT.
