Image Credit: Ron Tom/ABCNews that ABC is looking to transfer Desperate Housewives‘ Dana Delany to a new procedural next season would seem to suggest that her late-in-life-lesbian alter ego, Katherine, is headed straight off Wisteria Lane. But that may not necessarily be the case.
First off, Delany’s deal to join the cast of Body of Evidence is still not done. And second, even if the Emmy winner does sign on the dotted line, there’s no guarantee the pilot will become an actual series. “You never know with pilots,” Delany shrugs. “Many of them never get off the ground, so all this talk could be rendered [pointless]. But I am realistically hopeful. I love the [Evidence] character, so I hope it all works out.”
Delany’s ideal scenario has her headlining Evidence next season and making occasional guest appearances on Housewives. “[Series creator] Marc Cherry [promised] he would not kill me off and told me I was always welcome to come back to the Lane,” she says. “I would love for Katherine to pop into town and say hi to the gang every once in awhile.”
In the meantime, Delany remains focused on finishing out this season of Housewives. Does she think Katherine’s big gay awakening will stick? “This might actually be her thing,” she says. “It may make her happier than she has ever been. She does not have the best track record with men to begin with.”
Coincidentally, Delany’s current on-screen squeeze, Julie Benz, also landed an ABC pilot — the super-powered drama No Ordinary Family. For her part, Benz hopes the simultaneous bookings will result in a happy ending for Katherine and Robin. “I love the idea that those two may ride of into the sunset together.” (Reporting by Carrie Bell)

I hope so! When I heard that Julie Benz had a new pilot I was bummed b/c I though that meant no possible chance of her and Katherine winding up together but then when I heard about Dana Delany’s (potential/probable) pilot I got happy again. As much as I like seeing them together, a happy ending for once would be GREATLY appreciated. Besides, so far they’re wonderfully cute together and Katherine REALLY deserves some happiness.
Yes ZOE! I agree, we have seen too much tragedy for both Katherine in particular, and gay characters in general. They are both sweet, and deserve happiness and to move in together in another suburb — a nicer suburb!
I agree. I just thought their relationship was so beautiful. I wish they could both come back, but still be happy, no tragedy.
I love the whole Katherine/Robin storyline. Julie Benz has added some excitement to the show and Dana Delany has finally had a chance to shine lately, rather than just be a foil for Teri Hatcher. I didn’t see the whole lesbian thing coming but it felt right that that’s who Robin is. Katherine having a mid-life awakening is a great twist and so good for the character. I hope these two will get a happy ending. (Though there aren’t many of those on Desperate Housewives.)
Sometimes I’m surprised at how good this show still is after all these years!
@Robert: THANK YOU! Katherine was at one time awesome, then became Susan-dependant plot lined. Dana is way to epic an actress to be Susan-foil.
I loved her character
Katherine used to be the ultimate perfectionist/Martha Stewart when she arrived on Wisteria Lane. Bree was jealous she could bake better than she can. Then the following season she became a shell of her former self and dependent on a man, Mike of all people. Would do anything to keep him. They totally changed the character and made her weak.
The Internet can so often be a home of anonymous cruelty, yet the comments here are so kind to both Ms. Delany and the idea of a happy ending for a lesbian couple with a considerable age gap. So much potential for negativity. Yet, these comments are thoughtful and kind. What is that? Is it because we’ve been inspired by Mr. Ausiello always-excellent column? Are EW readers classier? Are Desperate Housewives fans inspired by Bree’s good manners? I hope that even when we disagree, we can always be this civil and respectful.
you are a dork Robert
lol and u kind of sound like mary alice young!
Both women deserve their own shows rather than playing side kicks on DH. Good luck to both of them!
If they do have to leave, a happy ending for them would be perfect.
Aww, that would be adorable if they had a happy ending.
I think it’ll be great if they get a happy ending and leave Wisteria Lane together. Dana definitely deserves her own show she’s been playing 5th fiddle in DH too long. Julie Benz has just been awesome. I wish she would’ve been around sooner. And since they are both working for ABC, you know how that network loves to have actors jump shows (ie. Taye Diggs). I could see Katherine ad Robin popping up for an episode or two next season.
Julie Benz made me watch this show again; I’d love to see a happy ending for this new couple! Hoping it will be a fun ride and that for once, the TV network will allow a happy love story between these two.
I think they should have them drive a car off a cliff into a canyon/jk
Dana Delany deserves her own show. And if both actress are leaving DH it would be awesome if we get a happy ending for Katherine with her new love Robin. After that horrible stalker storyline they almost ruined the character. Let this be the wonderful send off she deserves.
Hope everything works out for them, both on screen and off. Getting their own shows would be amazing! And Katherine and Robin getting a happy ending would be the perfect way to send Dana and Julie off to the next parts in their acting careers. Good luck to Dana and Julie!
I would love a happy ending for them.
(Still weird to see Darla basking in the sunlight in the pic though.)
Didnt you watch her on Dexter?
Can Dana Delaney be any more annoying?
x2
yes, she could be teri hatcher.
x10! Yes, Terri Hatcher is really annoying.
Can Beth ever learn to spell DANA DELANY’s name right?
Ha!
I think these two crazy kids can make it.
Eh, not a fan of the Robin/Katherine thing. Mainly because of Robin. The whole episode focused on her set her us as a perfect Mary Sue, so she doesn’t seem quite convincing as a character to me.
I hope Dana does leave, she deserves more than a few leftover scraps from the writing room of Marc Cherry.
