Image Credit: Sylvain Gaboury/PR PhotosTom Cavanagh has landed the title role in the highly regarded ABC pilot Edgar Floats, sources confirm to me exclusively.
The character-driven procedural, from Life creator Rand Ravich, finds the former Ed star playing a police psychologist who moonlights as a bounty hunter. “Edgar understands everyone but himself,” explains Ravich. “Because of a personal financial crisis, Edgar is forced to leave the safety of his office and enter the dangerous world of fugitive recovery.”
The cast also includes Robert Patrick and Alicia Witt.

Ugh, how does this clown keep getting work? I don’t know that there is anyone on TV that I found more annoying.
Agreed. I was a huge fan of ED and he is a nice guy, but how many chances is he going to get? This is up to, what, four failed series on his watch? Give someone else a chance.
No way. Tom Cavanaugh is amazing. He is a great actor with awesome comedic timing. He just happens to pick not good projects.
I’m looking forward to seeing all three of them on the screen, despite Brian’s lack of taste.
Oh David, you nincompoop. Why am I not at all surprised that you would be tinkling all over yourself over this news?
he is so funny!
Yay! I miss watching Ed so much…. I wish they’d put it on DVD already!!
I agree. I would buy the DVD as soon as it comes out. Also love monkey if it came out.
I’m in too. Loved Ed.
I actually found the complete series on a site. Unfortunately, the DVDs I got are unorganized (the discs are numbered, but there’s no way to tell what’s on them), and I can’t tell if all the eps are actually there. Still, it was worth it to hold me over for the DVDs that will likely never be released. You can find it on planetdvdstore.com, along with other rarities.
I loved Ed – it was quirky and light-hearted. Even though this sounds more serious, I’m willing to give it a try.
I disagree, big fan of Mr. Cavanaugh. He’s had a bit of a rough streak with Love Monkey and Trust Me, but if he’s in it, I’ll watch it. Especially if the show is centered in Stuckeyville.
And again, I have to ask, nay demand to know, when is Ed coming out on DVD? Been hoping for a DVD release for nearly a decade now
I adore him and will definitely be checking this show out if it gets picked up!
I agree with Brian. There are very few actors I actively dislike, but I find him off-putting.
I really like Tom Cavanagh and hope this show is a success!
tom cavanagh is awesome! can’t expect anyone to get 100% approval rating. let the haters hate… us fans can at least have something to look forward to.
I love how people call others “haters” simply for stating a different opinion. I don’t like him at all, but it’s for real, solid reasons. Slamming a Britney album without hearing it is “hating.” This is simply letting one’s voice be heard.
Michael, you really shouldn’t post this until the show gets picked up. It’s not fair to tease… Let’s just hope this one is a success! I’ve followed him ever since Ed. As for anyone who thinks he’s just a clown, I highly recommend him in “Capture of the Green River Killer.” He was brilliant, as always, in it. He was also darker in Eli Stone, though I haven’t seen him play a character I loved as much as Ed…
I just saw Breakfast with Scot – so I’m excited to see how he does. I don’t think I’ve seen him in anything else.
ZACK BRAFF MUST PLAY HIS BROTHER!!! Or Jason Dohring.
Really hope this is the one that works for him. I just want to see Tom get some good consistent work.
i would like to see him get a show on hbo or showtime. let him do something a little less main stream. how great would he be on Weeds?
Well considering its ABC, this show will be canceled after the first season.
