As a result, production on the second season of Spartacus — which was scheduled to get underway later this month — has been delayed.

Whitfield’s cancer was detected early and his prognosis is good. “I’m receiving excellent care, and am feeling strong, positive and determined with an army of support behind me,” said Whitfield in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy,” said Starz president Chris Albrecht. “His health, of course, is our primary concern. He has our complete support during this difficult time.”

Spartacus’ first season concludes April 16.

  • Long live Hotticus!

    We’re praying for you Andy!

    • joe

damit, spartacus is one of the best new tv shows on tv right now. I hope he has a speedy recovery so he can get his arse back to work!! :)

      • m.

It’s a great show, a little bit too much unnecessary sex and boobies (hey and i’m a guy!), but beside that it’s good. Everyone won’t like it, but it’s different of the other shows and i suggest to give it a chance.
        Hope that Andy gets well!

      • Jamalia

I don’t think the sex is excessive. It is a depiction of the time, where sex wasn’t as precocious as it’s considered today. I would like to see more male nudity, full frontal, that is.

      • Jamalia

Speedy recovery too! It’s such a fun show, and Andy is great in it.

      • Guest

It’s not a great show, it’s an ok show. They could do so much to make it better, starting with the dialogue. It’s weak. I like the actor though, I hope he beats this soon.

      • T Andrews

A little too much ding dong as well

      • david

it was just great!!!!! boobs ,sex, sand and blood……i cant wait for more!!! bring on the boobs and more sex and orgys like romans did….lol

      • harold

holly crap this show is awesom. well. i didn’t like the gay parts but beside that everything was great. can’t wait for the 2 season uuuhhh jejejeje

      • Kevin

Andy has CANCER! Don’t say things like ‘I hope he has a speedy recovery, and gets back to the series’. That’s disrespectful. You can wait, be patient. His life is much more important than a show.

      • Bahh

Keven…how is it disrespectful to wish him a speedy recovery? You would prefer a long recovery?

I am sure he wants to get back to the series as much as the viewers want him to get back to the series. I doubt he will want to be laid up instead of out working, creating a show.

      • Gil

HAhaha unecesary sex i agree with you dude but Boobies are never a bad thing to watch!!! lol U sure youre a guy? J/k

    • Joe

Best show on TV, wish there are more like it. This show is recorded every week at my house and watched multiple times during the week.

Our prayers are with you Andy, get well soon so that you can start filming the next season.

    • Randy

Andy’s work is simply Great. I can’ believe that this is happening to him when his Career is really starting to take-off. I am deeply saddened. On a different matter, I am in Chronic Pain from an injury and subsequent infection that was not caught soon enough. However, I tried the Spartacus 10 minute workout and that has relieved most of my pain. I do not know how it is helping other than possibly stretching my muscles and tendons. Thanks and I hope you fully recover…I will prey for you.

    • Christopher

Andy you’ve touched a lot of hearts with this movie and there is no way you can pass, Keep it strong, we are looking for many more from you, especialy kickin batiatus asss…

    • Corinne

Andy you have touched my heart with your role as Spartacus. I am saddened to hear of your cancer. My prayers are with you and your family. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I will be looking for you on season 2 of to be kicking butt. Live strong Andy. Peace be with you.

    • brett

I would not have this so.

    • robert

  • UGH

Ummm. Somebody already beat you to the punch there.

  • Janice

Wow – if you watch that show, the guy is in AMAZING shape. Just goes to show you that cancer doesn’t care what you look like. Get well, Andy. I hope to see more of your awesome pecs in Season 2.

  • Momo

I hope a quick recovery for such an excellent actor!

  • Joseph T

oh no! Hope he beats it and recovers soon. Season 1 has been great.

  • markinnyc

How come this guy isn’t up for the Captain America role?

    • Doug

      Ummm…because he isn’t American.

      • Melissa

It’s all in whether he (unlike Sam Worthington, who I love) can hold the American accent or not!

      • Angela

So? Christian Bale is British and Heath Ledger is Australian…they still were able to play Batman and The Joker respectfully.

      • Reality

        Angela, Christian is Anglo-American

      • Maxine

Christian Bale is welsh. What the hell is Anglo-American?

Hope he recovers, for the sake of his kids :’(

      • TL

Anglo-American may refer to: English American, a North American of English heritage, origin, or background; Pertaining to Anglo-America, a term denoting an …….
        en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-American

      • Shauna

Christian Bale is Welsh, period. He just does a great American accent(s) and lives here currently.

      • Tarc

The director has stated explicitly that the actor playing Majors will be American.

      • Milkytits

Whitfield, who plays Spartacus, is Welsh, from Wales, lives in Aussie land, end of story.

    • Doug

No, it’s all in whether he was born in the United States of America or not. That’s not me saying it, it’s the guys making the movie.

      • citymatchmakers

        i luv the show

      • Steve

        You’re both wrong…

Christian Bale was BORN in Havefordwest, Pembrokshire, Wales in 1974.

BUT his mother is English and his father is White South African of English Descent.

Anglo-American’s are just American’s of British descent.

      • Steve

HOWEVER, Christian is a naturalised American citizen has he is married to an American, Sibi Blažić, and his daughter is also American.

      • Vera

        Steve,
Maxine and Shauna were both correct. All those claiming Bale is Anglo-American are incorrect. If you are born in Wales that means you are Welsh. However, you definition of Anglo-American is in fact correct.

      • Vera

Now that that is cleared up…

Andy, may your recovery take the time it needs to get you back into excellent health. Your show is captivating and I truly enjoy every minute. More importantly, you get well and we will see you soon enough!

  • kat

best wishes to andy! he does a GREAT job with Spartacus.

  • Liz

Wow Mark, I agree. He would be a great Captain America. Hope his treatment goes well.

Spartacus has turned into a really good show. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do. I’m really happy there’s going to be a second season.

    • M
