'Vampire' First Look: David Anders is up to no good

vampire-diariesImage Credit: Quantrell D. Colbert/The CWVampire Diaries execs didn’t have to cut through any bloody red tape to cast David Anders as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, Jonathan Gilbert. “When we started talking about this role, I immediately thought, ‘What about Sark from Alias?’ executive producer Julie Plec recalls. “We called his agent the next day and the day after that [the deal was] done.”

It’s fair to say Anders’ arrival in Mystic Falls will be slightly more complicated. The Alias and Heroes alum makes his debut in the April 15 episode when it comes time for Elena and Jeremy to sell their father’s doctor office. “He has to sign the escrow papers but he isn’t quite ready to give the office up,” explains fellow e.p., Kevin Williamson. “But like everyone else in town, he’s there for something [else]. His intentions are not pure.”

We wouldn’t have it any other way. Would we? (Additional reporting by Carrie Bell)

    • TiffanyPYT

      Trio of hotness is right!!

    • carol

thought the same thing!!! wow this cast is HOT!

      • Sparky

And they can all act more importantly…

    • Zoey

Hell yeah! They should’ve thrown in Stefan for good measure. I would’ve had a spaz attack from all the hotness…

  • Nina

Lol they are all drool worthy.

  • Kayde_Lyn

Love David Anders…maybe I’ll have to give this show a try. Seems kind of like True Blood Lite though…

    • Wendy

For me, Vampire Diaries is two shows in one. There’s a the angsty shirtless romance nonsense that blows and then there is a real sci-fi show that actually is interesting. Unfortunately the former seems to win out most times.

        he was good in heroes

    • Rockin’

I watch both and enjoy both. They are not the same at all nor is it like twilight.

  • Wendy

Wow, Ian Somerhalder is pretty small framed man.

    • Zoey

He’s on the shorter side, but I think it’s the angle he’s walking at too…David Anders is almost the same size.

  • Candice

    They all look good! Mmm!

  • JennaD

The real question is—-will he be using his faux-brit accent? I like to think he’s been living in England for many years….

    • petuniafromhell

I was so dissapointed when I looked up his beo on IMDB and it said he’s from Grant Pass, OR!! WTF!!!

      • JennaD

I know! hahaha, he’s one of my most fav faux-brits. Him, James Marsters, and Alessandro Nivola–they all had me fooled at some point!

      • Julie

lol I used to think his accent was fairly decent…James Marsters too…until I actually lived in England. :) A+ for effort boys. :)

  • Rachel

A role designed with Mr. Sark in mind…this makes me incredibly happy.

    • JennaD

I know! TVD just won a special place in my heart…Sark was my fav!

  • Fernanda

    Love me some Sark!
I think I’ve never heard him talk with his american-english accent. That would be interesting.

  • Jennifer

I may have to start watching this show.

    • m.

I watched like first 6 episodes, but then stopped, but i may restart. David Anders is great and what i have read about the series, it seems that it’s good. Plus it won’t be cancelled, so that’s also good.

  • baj24

Kayde Lyn it’s NOT True Blood lite…honestly this show is so good it’s on par with TB as far as the storylines/writing goes.

    • Tha Phoenix

      Damn straight!

  • OMG

    HOTNESS * 3 = droolllllllllllll

I started watching this show when WB or whatever the station is called ran a marathon over either Thanksgiving or Christmas (I DVR’d it and watched the first like eight episodes one snowy Saturday and I was hooked). It has all the fun of True Blood or heck, even a bit of Chuck or the lighter episodes of Buffy in there, but then it has this what the heck is going on vibe, but get this, it moves fast and if a question isn’t answered in the episode, it is answered quickly in the next one. I might have pulled my attention fully away from Flashforward.

  • Alex

Sark!! I think I’ve just been given reason enough to watch this show again. Should fill the gap til True Blood returns.

  • JennaD

Anyone ever see Tigerland…? “Alaric” is in it…It’s a must-see for MD fans.

  • AM

Of course we wouldn’t have it any other way. David Anders always makes a terrific loveable bad guy.
