Pilot Intel: 'One Tree Hill' grad Michaela McManus joins The CW's 'Nomads'

michaela-mcmanusImage Credit: Andrew H. Walker/Getty ImagesOne Tree Hill alum Michaela McManus has scored the female lead in The CW’s promising Alias-esqe pilot Nomads, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The underrated McManus, who followed up her OTH run with a year-long stint as ADA Kim Greylek on Law & Order: SVU, will play a brave and resourceful Army Brat determined to earn a place in the CIA. She finds herself fighting an attraction to her handler (Mental‘s Warren Kole) and a fellow agent-in-training (Friday Night Lights‘ Scott Porter).

Nomads follows a group of young backpackers who earn extra money working secret missions for the CIA. Ken Sanzel (Numb3rs) wrote the script and is directing the pilot.

Not a big fan of her brief stint on SVU. And she didn’t bring anything to OTH. I don’t know if she has it in her to lead a series. But, I guess we’ll see.

Agree, she is a bad actress – they should have taken Hilarie Burton – better looking. But honestly, this premise seems lame. Why not make a series like “Nightwing” or “Batgirl” on the CW – NOW that would be awesome.

Never seen OTH, but I always felt like it was never her fault she never took of in SVU. She was barely written anything for the season. Then they whisked her off to DC for something and brought back Alex. Granted, I’m glad that we have Alex back, but it’s not Michaela’s fault that she didn’t get good (or enough) material to work with. I wasn’t surprised she left. I would have left too.

I have a theory why she was ever cast on SVU. Producers wanted Stephanie March back, but they knew if they got rid of Casey only to bring SM back, Casey fans would hate Cabot. So they used McManus as a buffer. People hated her and were relieved to have Stephanie March come back, without a speck of resentment for taking Diane Neal’s job.

Bad idea. Another poor casting choice by the CW, which unfortunately is becoming synonymous with “Casting Wrong.”

  • Someone

    Ugh, CW needs better shows.

  • something

    what a terrible title

  • Josiane

Not sure about this one, it sounds like they’re trying to capitalize on a trend again, not start one.

  • Jenny

CW is desperate for a good show. I’ll give it a shot.

  • yvette villa

  • Marily

AND HER FIANCE PROPOSED TO ME FIRST… WITH THE VERY SAME RING! *jazz hands*

        oh peyton….

  • Avery

I’m actually excited for this show!

It may be “trendy,” but with the backpackers still being held prisoner in Iran, is this really the best time to be playing with people’s actual lives? Iran has never been logical in diplomatic matters; an anecdote like this is just what they could use to nonsensically justify continued imprisonment. Exploitation of a diplomatic crisis for entertainment is sad & dangerous.

Horrible actress, she was so wooden on SVU, and she is the lead?

  • Emma

Not a fan of her stint on SVU either (“underrated” – seriously Ausiello??). Thank God they were able to bring Stephanie March back and fix that mess – firing Diane and hiring Michaela has got to be the dumbest thing Dick Wolf has ever done.

    • Rita

thank u! my thoughts exactly! she was awful! thank god Stephanie is back!

    • Lala

She was terrible, so wooden and unbelievable

    • Amy

She didn’t even last a season, that’s how bad she was.

  • Lulu

You had me at Alias-esqe. Any show remotely resembling the Jen Garner jewel will at least get a viewing from me. And hey, the CW does turn out shows like Supernatural, Vamp Diaries and Smallville (yes, Smallville) so I’ll see how it goes. Plus she’s really pretty. Whoever called her man-face needs to hush-up!

    • Zoey

Yes, while the 3 shows you mentioned are great, the rest of the network is crap. I honestly feel they just got lucky with those 3, but let’s wait and see. Alias-esque…it just makes me qant to compare to the awesomesauce that was Alias, and that’s just setting myself up for disappointment.

    • Janet

Man Face Lindsay was from One Tree Hill. But she does have a man face. HAHAHAHAHA

  • Frank

Ugh. She was terrible and wooden on both OTH and SVU. Why would anyone give her a lead in a new show?

  • Jennifer

Keep her, CW, so I don’t have to remember that horrid job she did on SVU.
Underrated? Michael, exactly what show did you see her on that her performance deserved to be praised?

    • TheLady

She was horrible on SVU. She is not underrated. She just can’t act. Maybe a soap will take her. You know, pretty faces/can’t act type of thing.

  • lorna

Her acting as alright on OTH but she was ANNOYING and made me hate Haley more for being a beeyatch to Peyton who wasn’t ready to be engaged and Lucas acted like a child.
