Image Credit: Eric McCandless/ABCMore than a few eagle-eyed Private Practice viewers have written in wondering why Amy Brenneman (Violet) hasn’t appeared in the last two original episodes. Seemed like a fair question, so I did a little digging and here’s what I found out…
Brenneman’s rep, Stephen Huvane, tells me that his client “took a few weeks off to have a planned surgery to fix a chronic health issue. She is already back at work.”
I’m told Brenneman ended up missing a total of three episodes, the last of which is scheduled to air on March 25. An ABC rep confirms that Violet will reappear at the tail end of the April 1 episode.
Mystery solved!
UPDATE: As several of you have pointed out in the comments, Brenneman has been openly discussing her PP medical leave on Twitter for weeks. So if you’re following @theamybrenneman, go ahead and ignore this story. Everyone else, you read it here first!

Who cares?
No offense, but the show’s much better without her downer of a character.
Totally disagree, I love Violet
I disagree too! i’ve been missing her on the show!
I completely disagree…Violet’s character adds depth to the show. LOVE THE SHOW!
WORD. I HATE Violet. Like Amy but Violet is an annoyance at best.
I go back and forth with Violet. I hate her and then I like her. Do know that I haven’t missed her and I’ve loved having Sheldon around. I’ve loved Brian Benben for years!
Exactly. Glad the actress is in good health, but as far as her character goes…yawn.
Totally AGREE. She is awful.
I don’t like Violet either. The only reason I want her back is so that Pete can leave Addison alone! She belongs with Sam.
agree totally w/ sid…Saddison 4ever!!!
though i do like violet…so don’t TOTALLY agree
These shows without Violet have been a relief. That character was such a downer. Give up your child and everybody’s not only ok with it but ignores the fact right along with you? Give me a break. I’ve wanted Addison and Pete together since Week One and when it finally happens its a laizze faire kind of thing. How disappointing. It would be great if they were a solid couple before Violet gets back and ruins things.
oh thank goodness. hopefully shonda isn’t dumb enough to let someone as talented as Amy go.
“To fix a chronic health issue.”
That means boob job and botox.
Um, no it doesn’t.
Um, yes it does.
Get a sense of humor tool. It was a joke.
Alright fellow tool, I’ll be sure to do that.
Though I don’t agree with this, it did make me laugh.
Well she has obviously had botox as her forehead doesn’t move.
It might be a joke but I think it’s to fix a botox problem. Thank goodness her botox isn’t as bad as it was first season. She looked like a cat.
She recently revealed it was to have her colon removed. She also had her colostomy removed shortly after that. She has also sworn off botox from here on out. She says she can’t act properly with it because it limits her facial expressions.
Can´t wait to have her back– Amy rocks!
Was it a mystery? Amy’s twitter was assuring everyone.
Don’t watch Private Practice but I like Amy. Glad she is alright.
Oh, thanks for finding out. I was starting to wonder where she was.
Yeah, Amy has mentioned this on her twitter and talked about it in her blog.
I still think that Cooper killed her.
She actually tweeted about her operation & not everyone goes & has plastic surgery.
The 6 people who watch Private Practice will be so relieved!
I would like to meet the 5 others
I was curious where she was. I suppose it wasn’t a mystery if she wrote about it on twitter and her blog, but I don’t follow every celebrity I know on their personal sites, so it was a mystery to me.
ditto there are too many celebs to follow. That’s why I read blogs like this, so thanks for the info ausiello.
she’s been writing about it here, too:

Ok if you follow her blog what’s the big mystery?
Miss Violet! The show is not good without her! I hate that she won’t be back until April 1st!
