This Just In: Paula Abdul nixes 'Star Search' gig

Tags: , News, Scoop

paula_abdulImage Credit: Albert L. Ortega / PR PhotosKnowing Paula Abdul, this news could change as quickly as it’s posted. But for the moment, insiders at ABC tell me that she is not going to do the network’s new Star Search reboot after all.

Surprised? Or relieved?

Anyway, the source adds that the ousted American Idol judge is only off the project “at this time,” meaning, obviously, that she can do a 180 as fast as you or I could down a Diet Snapple.

Thoughts? Did ABC dodge a bullet here? Or should they be bummed, missing out on this chance to crash in… er, cash in on the mother of all train-wreck TV personalities? Sound off below. And be prepared for updates. I know I am.

Relieved. Couldn’t stand watching that train wreck week after week on Idol. Wouldn’t tune in to a new show if she was on it.

    • Moe

It’s for the best because we ALL know this show won’t last.

      • GROWING PAINS FAN

Agree, they should bring back ‘Candid Camera’ instead

ABC dodged a bullet. It was only for the summer ONLY for the summer, and she wouldn’t be paid as much money as Idol….but she could be rich enough to not do television again….I didn’t see her as a “host”. No way.

      Ditto.

Not a huge paula abdul fan, but she has a better chance of me watching if she is reunited with simon on xfactor than on yet another attempt at star search. So good move in my book.

  • Jo

Relieved for Paula because she can do much better. I’m glad she didn’t let the offer fool her.

  • DK

She turned it down because Simon Cowell heard she’d been offered it, and he counter-offered: he’s saying he’ll give her more money if she’ll do the X-Factor with him instead. She was mulling it over, due to still being upset with Simon for not going to bat for her when she was in (failed) negotiations with Idol, but this news would imply that she’s decided to go with his offer.

Thanks, Donkey Kong! Love your barrels!

    • Sam

I guess too that she’s on “X Factor”. Having Paula and Simon on the show represents the core judges on ‘Idol’ and that obviously a duo viewers are used to. I wonder if Cheryl Cole does have a chance to be in the show.

Good for Paula! ( and you know this (rumour) could just have been a PR stunt.

  • darclyte

I’m still betting that she’ll wind up on X-Factor.

  • Tom

    First?

  • Jed

I don’t think she even knows what she wants anymore…how about therapy for starters?

  • wapanese

haha what happened to vh1 divas? what a jinx

  • michael

The only reason that Paula was bearable on the show was Simon. He poked fun of her idiocy. I wouldn’t be able to take her seriously as the lead of a show.

  • KFed

    Mmmmm Diet Snapple.

  • Stacy

Oh god she looks so scary in this pic! I’m glad she is off TV

  • ks

I agree-this picture is so awful!! you guys couldn’t find a better one? distracts from the article

    • me

yeah, it’s like michael jackson’s nose from 1985 with michael jackson’s color from 2009.

  • Dave

Relieved. I’d much rather see her on X-Factor with Simon Cowell.

I’ll wait for an official statement

I love Paula. I’m holding out hope she ends up on X-Factor (with Simon).
